What a trooper.

Let's start a prediction game! How many weeks will Galaxy 2 be above NSMB Wii on the tracker of your choice? :lol

I vote 4.

I vote 2-3 weeks, max. I am leaning towards 2 instead of 3.

What do you mean with "stay ahead"? Week per week?

Mario keeps trucking along. Why did Nintendo wait until its 3rd 3d console gen to make another 2d mario? Their vault would be even fuller if they released a 2D mario during the N64 and gamecube days.

Developer and brand fatigue, perhaps? It's not a bad idea to let a waning series take a break for a number of years and then bring it back when demand has returned.

Have total 3rd party games on Ps3 sold better than total Wii 3rd party? FFXIII should've helped a lot.
Yeah. Garaph database is a few weeks behind at present, but as of the last update PS3 total third party sales were about 13 million, Wii about 9 million. They seem to be pretty even until a little more than a year ago, but since that time PS3 third party sales have nearly doubled.

demon's soul sold 280k in US alone? that's pretty high for the game.

how much did it sell in japan? 170k?

it sold almost 500k copies, not bad at all. factoring in a PAL release it should be able to reach 600k copies, possibly something more.

Considering it sold 150k in October alone I say that's pretty horrible. Horrible legs for such a great game, that's kind of sad.

Hokuto Musou seems like to have some legs (oh well, Kenshiro surely has strong legs)
(but probably the customers are focusing on Mamiya legs ahahahahha)

NSMBW again on the top shows how long time Nintendo titles could sell, but also how poor has been Wii line-up in the last 4 months...

PS3 sw this year has some similarities with last year, in 2009 we had Yakuza 3 and RE5 which sold over 500k and SF IV above 100k, this year Yakuza 4 and Hokuto Musou over 500k and RE5A over 200k

Mario continues to dominate in Japan, after becoming the top seller title for DS (and DS will probably be the first Nintendo handheld without a Pokemon games as top seller), in a couple of weeks also the Wii top chart will be held by the italian plumber.
Impressive.

Hokuto no ken is showing a pretty strong performance, I gotta say. It might even reach like 750-800k LTD Best version included.

Hmmm...that's a hard one. I say 4 weeks on MC and 3 weeks on Famitsu.

that really isn't horrible.

130k (probably less than that since they're talking about shipped here) since November is horrible. It would've been ok if it didn't open up so strong. Actually, what are the dates for those sales up to do?

Well, if RPGs are generally more frontloaded than other genres, and hardcore games in general tend to be more frontloaded, wouldn't an extremely hardcore RPG selling only 50% of its lifetime sales in the first month be pretty good? Especially when the first month already doubled their expectations, and even more so when Atlus really doesn't have the marketing budget of bigger publishers, so it's really difficult for them to push into the mainstream. A big chunk of those later sales can probably be attributed to the various game of the year mentions and awards.

Thanks to this (page 16) now we know sales expectations and actual sales for Atlus games.

Japan:

- Shin Megami Tensei STRANGE JOURNEY (DS) - 152k sold / 170k expected
- Persona 3 Portable (PSP) - 225k sold / 170k expected

NA:

- Persona (PSP) - 49k sold / 35k expected
- Demon's Souls (PS3) - 280k sold / 75k expected
- 101 in 1 Party Megamix (Wii) - 189k sold / 100k expected
Does anyone happen to know what the final retail shipment number for Persona 3 Portable was?

If someone does, we can figure out how much it actually ended up selling on PSN.

It's not horrible heck Atlus themselves are really happy with the sales that Demon Souls got:

http://www.gamespot.com/ps3/rpg/demonssoul/news.html?sid=6253688

According to a 1Up report on a localization session from last week's Game Developers Conference, the PlayStation 3-exclusive role-playing game was approaching total sales of 250,000 copies. Initial shipments of the game totaled just 15,000 copies, but the game picked up steam from positive word of mouth and critical raves.

Atlus is apparently happy with the performance of its recent release. In a quarterly report this week, the publisher said sales of Demon's Souls were strong, helping push sales of its home gaming segment up more than 8 percent year-over-year. According to a translation by game site Siliconera, the company's six-month operating profit more than doubled, jumping 236.1 percent to 78 million yen (roughly $4.15 million).

Since that's report is from mid march and Atlus recent report says it now at 280k it shows the game is still selling at a decent pace.

Yeah, that would be great. I've always wondered about how much games sell on PSN.

Repeating yourself is not gonna change the fact that it is indeed horrible.

A 50% Month one to first six month sales ratio is not horrible by any means. A 50% Month one to lifetime ratio is not uncommon, nor would it be horrible. A 50% Week one to lifetime ratio is not uncommon in Japan, nor would it be horrible. And I'm not just talking about RPGs, I'm talking about games in general.

None of this takes into account that at 280k, Demon's Souls would be Atlus' best-selling game in North America by a non-trivial margin, a literally unprecedented event in their 20 year publishing history and that attempting to apply traditional multipliers or ratios to surprise successes by smaller publishers is not valid.

Your evidence so far is repeating that it's horrible twice. Repeating it a third time won't make it any more true.
