Mario Kart Wii at #10 could have sold more than 14k last week. I see that cvxfreak mentioned that Mario Kart Wii was advertised alongside with New Super Mario Bros Wii, so maybe Mario Kart Wii saw an increase in sales this week compared to last week, to so the leak regarding the sales of Nier might be correct. But we will see once the official sales data get released

I can keep posting lists like these for ever. Only Nintendo has managed to maintain its power all these years. Many companies with big power before 10-20 years are now a shadow.
And all these with games after 1995. Imagine how many other series (companies), for which we don't have numbers, have declined.

Its not like there are new wii games being released this days....

I remember when Sakura Taisen 4 came out. That was weird. The DC had been dead for a year, and a year later, there's a Dreamcast game topping the sales charts.

Of course, games continued to appear for the Dreamcast in some fashion all the way until 2006. *salutes*

nintendo has had a number of franchises fade; <x> wars and fire emblem (although milder than 1.1 million to 10k, obviously) most notably. the difference is that they've been intelligent enough to shift their focus towards the west so that any loss of japanese sales is more than made up by international sales.

How can you have a train simulation when America doesn't have a (developed) high-speed train infrastructure? The game should be popular in Europe, though. ; )

From the list posted it should be pretty obvious that releasing 20 games in 10 years for the same franchise is not a smart idea.

I guess it would be too difficult for Chris to post a Megaten list since the names constantly switch in Japan. Do the recent Persona games still have the "Megami Ibunroku" heading prefix? If so, at least a search for Megami could encompass both Persona and Shin Megami Tensei. That would still leave out Devil Children, Devil Summoner, Majin Tensei and Last Bible though.

hah, never mind America, I live on an island which literally does not have any trains. It's insanity. The last train and the last patch of publicly accessible railroad was decommissioned when I was a kid.

I try to ride the rails every time I get off the island just to prove to myself that trains really exist!

Ah ok, i see, i havnt read all the posts in this thread, so i missed that you said that earlier. But cool that they show Mario Kart Wii ads on TV even 2 years after the game was released, that is not usual indeed These ads might boost the Mario Kart Wii sales indeed.


By the way, are the Nier sales numbers leaks or estimates? I havnt followed the blog who posted the numbers, so i dont know if this blog usually posts leaked sales numbers or if this blog is estimating how much a game will sell.

When is ToG coming to NA?

Seeing those Medabots numbers are pretty interesting. Would it be too much to ask if Chris would be willing to dig up the Digimon/ Digital Monsters, and Monster Rancher/Monster Farm numbers? It'd like to see how they did in the years before the anime series started, and how they did after. In the case of Medabots, the franchise started to disapear after the anime ended. This year Medabots DS is released.

And lol at how many of those huge declines are from Namco Bandai. Franchise fatigue hurted a lot of their stuff. Heck, the common decline cause is that a bunch of games in the same franchise were released in a short period of time.

Awesome, thanks Chris! There's some notable games missing (like the Digital Devil Saga and Devil Summoner games, had to check my old list of Megaten games thread to make sure) but this still helps me get a good overall picture of the sales history. The Persona resurgence is definitely real, quite surprised to see that Persona 4 was the most successful saleswise after the original.

Funny to see how Devil Children was milked into oblivion though, there's gotta be some missing/offchart sales data for the first set of GBA games because I can't see how it would have been possible to greenlight a set of sequels if they only ended up at 18K combined.

Not really a valid comparison in my mind, the Wii version had/has numerous enhancements and is generally considered the definitive version of the game. You're right though, the game dominated in the US, I believe Konami said that in one of its financial reports that it sold/shipped over a million WW, which means that it moved numbers somewhere.

On another note, good to see an update for Taiko 2 Wii, it had been hanging around the Top 50 for a while, and it has picked up another 40k since our last update on it. Might inch its way towards 500k by this holiday.

I really hope Konami releases PSN numbers for Peace Walker eventually. I think it should be very interesting to see how many people opted to buy the game on PSN instead of retail in Japan. Not that it means much, but the game just launched on JP PSN an hour ago, and quite a number of people on the 2ch PW thread are actually downloading it instead of getting it off retail. I've never seen this happen before on any PSP game thread, but it's also probably because no major PSP game in Japan has launched on PSN before this. :lol

RE2 was ported to N64 to prove a point. It actually sold pretty well in the US.

This is not Castlevania, so it's Capcom. And it was 1.5 million. Yes, it moved quite well in the U.S. It's probably close to what it sold on GameCube on a system where the GameCube version is still playable. :lol

That would suck. The Wii might have lost steam in Japan, but it's still doing gangbusters in the west. It can't do any worse than those japanese numbers.

Hope they give it to Atlus then.

Well, they haven't given Vesperia PS3 or any of their handheld Tales games to anyone, so I'm not sure if they will let anyone else localize their Tales titles.

I own Vesperia 360, so i'm good with that. Hopefully they look at those Vesperia PS3 sales and make another HD Tales game, and i'm there regardless of platform. Still sucks that we might not get it in NA. Holding out for a surprise E3 announcement.

That FMV or CG video and audio could be done on one N64 cartridge.

It was originally a two CD game.

RE 2 on the Nintendo 64 is also the best controlling RE game until 4 came out.

Really now? Unless Nintendo was paying for the port, fairly rarely do third party companies port games to "prove points", unless that point is "hey we can make money!"

I understand your skepticism, but it's true. Angel Studios had even opted to port FFVII to the N64 to prove it could be done, but Square and Nintendo's friction at the time made it impossible.

Of course making money was an incentive, but Angel Studios's goal was to show that the N64 could handle a game like RE2 with few cutbacks. It was a matter of prestige for AS, Capcom and Nintendo. It makes little sense for Capcom in 1997 to assume that RE2 on N64 could rake in cash because it's possibility was in question. If AS failed, then it would have resulted in a loss.
