Wow, did the original DQMJ sell anything near that? I didn't remember it being such a huge seller.

Shame about MGS sales. In all honesty it's doing about what MGS does in Japan meaning it's selling to the MGS audience and not really expanding to the mainstream despite all Kojima's psp-audience focused additions. And without the western sales to help like a normal MGS game, it'll probably end up being the lowest selling kojima MGS. :(

The original sold over a million. Did about the same as DQMJ2 in the first week.

There was no way japan was going to make up for western sales unless Kojima thought it was going sell 2 million plus and even then .
If it was on ps3 it may have had a chance for it to sell better than 4 but with it being on psp it was always going to be lowest selling MGS main game world wide.

I really thought it could be the first MGS to break a million in Japan. Seems unlikely now :X Peace Walker is very catered to the current Japanese game market.

Yeah those aren't very good sales for Peace Walker. I guess we're looking at... 1.5 million WW, maybe? Pretty horrible dissapointing for MGS.

I'm really surprised that the PSP experiment didn't pay off in Japan considering the popularity of handhelds. I guess MGS fans want their console MGS. MAYBE it will have slightly better legs than MGS4 did (relative to units sold), but damn, that's a shame.

Although Portable Ops+ did really well at a lower price in Japan, so maybe a cheaper Peace Walker re-release can do some respectable numbers.

Maybe they should have called it MGS5. I can see a decent amount of Japanese fans 'not bothering' with it because of the uniformed perception that it wasn't a mainline MGS.

They could have called it MGS5 in Japan, and not anywhere else. :lol

I just think we're seeing consolidation of the user base. MGS4 was released four years after MGS3, and there were three years between both that and MGS2 as well as MGS2 and the original Metal Gear Solid. So it wouldn't surprise me if the two-year release period between Peace Walker and MGS4 may have stunted sales.

It was the same with Valkyria Chronicles 2. The Japanese numbers are good by themselves, but the shift to PSP may not be justified considering the western sales of PSP software -- even though I do think PW will at least do pretty good for a PSP game.

OK I'm on crack and clearly can't remember Japanese MGS sales data, for some on crack reason I thought MGS4 was 650k first week and I am retarded. :lol Still the 2nd lowest opening ever, but when everything from MGS2 to MGS4 has a range of about 50k units, it's not really a big deal.

Anyway, respectable numbers for Peace Walker! Let's see how it does in week two.

The game did fine in the first week. Also the number would be a bit (at least) higher if we could count downloadable sales.

I'm disappointed with the awful day two-four sales. If the leaked numbers are right the game easily should have had the best first week ever for a MGS game.

It eventually went on to sell ~1.5 million, despite initial stock shortages. Surely hopes must be high for DQMJ2 to at least match that.

Sorry, am I missing something? Peace Walker got a split sales week? Or are you just saying that it dropped off pretty hard after the first two days.
