The Wii and NDS are performing abysmal compared to last year.

One Piece 3DS sales are pretty healthy.

Well, seems that there's still some hope for the 3DS.

3DS needs just games. Lot of them, regularly scheduled.

At lease Pandora's Tower charted I suppose :/

Yeah...better than nothing I suppose... Maybe we'll see the game in EU

Anyway, the entire industry in Japan is seriously crumbling.

With one million 3DS sales so far, it's interesting to see 1/10 owning Samurai Warriors and SSFIV, and 1/3 owning Layton. I wonder if Steel Diver can creep onto that list, or if by the time it gets above 26-27k it'll have been knocked back down by One Piece, RE, TotA, Zelda, etc...

By the way, I've given credit to the original poster in that story, just in case people were wondering... :)

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!
Why did people expect Pandora's Tower to do so much better? The sales seem reasonable to me. It's not exactly by a top tier developer or anything, nor does it have an IP attached, so it's in line with plenty lesser Nintendo published titles. I mean, I want to play it, I hope it gets over here, but why would anyone think it should do so great? I don't even believe it was held back by the current state of Wii or anything, I couldn't see it do much better even if it released 2 years ago since then there was actual competition too.

Thanks ;)

And Sinobi also expressed his idea on 3ds sales: Nintendo software is always the key to drive the consoles sales.

In an extreme case, at the time SNES passed 1m in Japan, Super Mario World also passed 1m. Considering Nintendogs+cats and Layton both around 1/4 attach rate. It shows the lack of killer software in Japan. No strong brands in launch window hurts the sales.

I heard that Zelda is extremely supply constraint (first shipment 150k reported by Sinobi nearly a month ago). I hope it can be the first killer software.

Gah, I had finally managed to forget there's a Japan-only Layton game on the 3DS, why, oh, why did you have to remind me of it?

and finally Patapon 3 broke 100k, yay!

Should become the highest selling entry in the franchise assuming it follows the path of Patapon, and Patapon 2 where it experiences growth even out of the chart.

How have other recent One Piece releases done in Japan?

With the size of the install base these are actually quite good sales and it's already one of the top 5 selling games on the system (right?)

Nintendo needs to stop fueling the falsity that 3DS will make your eyeballs fall out with their constant warnings and interuptions, and release some first party heavy hitters (games like nintendogs will sell strong throughout it's lifetime, but isn't the kind of things that makes people buy tons of hardware at a 250 dollar pricepoint, look for it to have a major revival following a price-drop), I don't doubt that once mario kart, mario 3DS, pokemon gray, zeldsa, and SE dragon quest titles hit then the 3DS will start looking like a market leader, and once a price drop corresponds with that it will be near DSL levels, even if slightly lower.

Don't underestimate the chances of monster hunter hitting the 3DS before long too, didn't capcom recently let out a memo stating that they were releasing fewer games for the 3DS, but expected higher sales than a previous projection? sounds like something big is going to hit 3DS to pick up the slack. 3DS's social features like streetpass could open up some interesting gameplay options given the ad-hoc nature of monster hunter. Sony will fight to keep it exclusive on handhelds of course, but it didn't help squareenix keep dragon quest, and capcom are port-whores lately.

PS3 "Monster Hunter Portable 3rd HD Ver." is set for 8/25 at just 4800Y, and the PSP Poka Poka Diary G gets bumped two weeks to 8/10.

Not bad pricing for MHP3HD, PSP version goes for 5800Y, although I wonder if HD announcement has something to do with MHP3 sales slump (not in top20 this week).

Wander if PS3 price cut is going to be before or after that. it can make a big difference on the FW numbers

PS3 setting up for a good month in September...

8/25 Monster Hunter Portable 3rd HD Ver.
8/25 Samurai Warriors 3 Empires
9/08 Tales of Xillia
9/15 Dark Souls
9/22 ICO/Shadow and the Colossus
9/29 2nd Super Robot Taisen OG

Now if they dropped PS3 HW price on 8/25, but we know the Xillia bundle already and it isn't discounted so they'll drop it on October or something when there's nothing big to benefit mutually :/

This years turns very bad for software and without the big title between now and December it will only get worse.

Under normal circumstances, yeah. But when 4500 gets you in the Top 20, I guess it doesn't take a giant blip to put something back in the Top 50 for a bit.

By Famitsu it had a 16K first week and was up to 50K by the middle of 2010. By the end of 2010 Media Create has it at 106K.

Nintendogs+cats is a killer software.
Layton may not be as killer as nintendogs, but it is doing as well as I expected.

I don't have any hope for Zelda on 3DS.
As a long time Zelda fans, Zelda on 3DS didn't excite me. I have $500 I set aside for 3DS and Zelda, but I probably wouldn't buy them. I hate 3DS' 3D, and it's battery life.

I would prefer for a "third pillar", a true DS 2/ DS Next, without any 3D gimmick, and long lasting batter (at least 6 hours, ideally 10 hours).

The tie ratio shows otherwise. In the past, Nintendo killer soft on its console remains very high tie ratio, at least during launch windows. Less than 1/4 is rather disappointing, and Layton sells a bit more...

Maybe Cafe will fulfill your wish :)

Nintendogs and Layton have failed. Zelda looks to be system's first big seller.

You're asking for the impossible. With or without autostereoscopic 3D, there is no current technology that will get you both relatively high-end 3D graphics (approximately on par with or better than last-gen consoles) and 6-10 hours of play time in a pocket-sized device.

nintendogs+cats has underperformed, Pilotwings Resort barely made a mark, and at this rate Steel Diver will struggle to sell through its initial supply of stock...Zelda has to at least get Nintendo's releases going in the right direction.

I got OoT 3D today and am thoroughly impressed. The 3D effect isn't that noticeable in most places, but there are a few 'whoa' moments that caught me off guard. I've not played it since the N64 original, so am definitely enjoying playing through it again. Feels very fresh, if somewhat easier than in the past (likely due to familiarity more than anything).

With E3 running I doubt anyone cares but azalyn estimates 60k for Mercenaries 3D.

That is actually not bad, but Azalyn's estimates have been way off before, so I will wait to reserve judgment.

Yeah, I think with Phantom Hourglass hovering around a million + trains they expected greater things from Spirit Tracks.

Resident Evil: Deadly Silence - 17k [FW]

Oh wow, I didn't know Deadly Silence bombed so hard. Good to know, hopefully Azalyn's estimate's accurate.

That, as pointed out by the [FW], was only it's first week...over time it did much better, and even more so with budget re-releases. You only have to ask cvxfreak about it to find out exactly how it's done :)

Fucking A. Japan is already getting Samurai Warriors 3 Empires and we're never getting SW3 PS3. Fucking sucks.

Speaking of sucks. Looks likes Cave is about to just give up on the whole 2D shooter idea. Maybe something will happen at TGS.

Must be my OCD but man doesn't Wii U fuck up the legacy of 3 letters abbreviations. Just how the hell do we put it, NWU? WIU? WI2? Just as PS Vita cleared any worries (NGP being taken, PSP2 being 4...) with PSV we now face this.

Yeah, I have some free time lately.

WIU - I thought of it almost immediately.
