I was wondering if any of you had a good set up for this car and track, I always use defaults, just not clever enough to mess with any of that stuff

Fauxlonso is going to do terrible this week.

... has the world record.

I made my gear ratios shorter though.
Yeah, that's what I thought. I don't know if I should go into setup and do the same. Going into setup is a big step for me. I'm not sure I'm ready yet :-D

What I mean is that I think I still need to learn how to drive properly before I go into setups. This way I know the one failing is me and not the setup.

Moved in to 2nd place on the leaderboard now, but my time hasn't been updated yet. Can't be losing to no gamepads this week ;) . I feel I can still go faster though.

EDIT: Here we go, 2:12.464

I shortened the gear ratio too. Second gear in the original setup is not that well suited for some corners. I find the rest of the options to be a bit scary tbh.

became member last week (username Hardan). slowly getting the hang of it.

Just made a 02:18:325 and finally managing to do a few laps without invalidating it 2 out of 3 times...

had a quick go last night and its quite a fun combination, except for the understeer :(

just had another half hour and got a 2:12.699, only setup tweak was i took some fuel out. wasn't a great lap at all, lost 1-1.5 secs in the middle sector. finding it hard to drag myself away from the new build of iracing though

I am awful at this game haha. I thought I would do a quick lap and got 2:30.268 :/ Might give it another go but thought I would chuck a time on the board haha
If you're starting, this car is not the best for learning. I would suggest you practicing with a different car before you go into our TT competition (or use an easier car in this track).

Getting the race rig out for Project Cars also made me get into GT5 again. It's funny how different both games feel. It's not just physics but also the force feedback effect. I think Slightly Mad pretty much nailed it in this department. The fidelity of the feedback makes it almost as easy to drive cars in RACE as in GT5 despite the more dynamic physics.

Funny, I actually think the opposite, it's the FFB I still can't get over with in C.A.R.S.

I get a much better feeling for the cars in GT5. I know when the loss of grip is going to happen, in C.A.R.S. when it happens it happens and there's nothing I can do about it lol

I think it comes down to wheels and configs at this point. Sure it still needs some work, but I can't say I agree there. I feel where cars are going (except the Gumpert :lol) and where I'm failing. I can't talk about GT5, since I haven't played, but pCARS FFB, at the moment, feels very good, closer to LFS by the day (my standard).

SMS have done an awesome job up to this point, and we're not even in beta.

The fact this is Alpha is kinda mind blowing. I always assumed Alpha builds were rough as hell... but this feels like a pretty polished product.

pCARS is great because you not only get to play the awesome game, but get an insight in to how the development of a game comes together.

Got it down to 2:17.933.

I see getting down another 2-3 seconds just by getting more accustomed to the steering/handling. I think I'll have to try the H-Box of my G27.

Agreed. It's very interesting seeing a game being created from inside and, not only that, even having a saying in the direction it takes. It's a very interesting experience and the game is coming together pretty nicely. I don't know about experienced sim racers and what they want, but for someone like me, pCARS is delivering in most every front it can at the moment, all things considered.

To be fair, the way this is/was being funded probably means they're approaching the development in a different way. It is definitely not normal for the assets to have this quality in an alpha state, specially since stuff gets cut all the time and it would have been time wasted. But here they know everyone will be playing it.

I bought a junior membership. This game is beautiful with everything on ultra/high. The cars sound amazing and the cockpits are extremely detailed. This game will be amazing.

Well, I think they approach developement in mostly the same way. The only change is that they need to create builds for people to play, getting direct feedback afterwards. But they are developing in the shadows and only adding their work to the builds once it's passed a certain point. They have a lot of data from previous works and that helps, with tracks, for istance. That's why we're seeing so much stuff that looks mostly finished.

That said, it's still very interesting.

What wheel do you use? Mine is a G25. I can recall reports of the G25 being a but spongy around the center in GT5. It might be that other wheels don't have this problem. And maybe your wheel isn't that well supported yet by CARS.

Your perspective seems to have softened in the past couple months.

And I still have a hard time thinking of this game as pre-alpha or alpha. In fact, I bet most other game developers would call pCARS a beta at this stage.

G27, I used to own a G25 and didn't notice any major difference in GT5, I replaced it with the G27 long before C.A.R.S. came along so I can't compare both of them there.

I work in the game industry and I still consider it an Alpha. A very polished Alpha for sure but, generally speaking, a game can't be considered Beta until it is feature complete which pCars is still far from. I agree that the game is in an overall good state for a project still that early in developpement but I've never worked on a racing game before so it's difficult to compare. I assume that a racing game is somewhat easier to get things rolling (pun intended) compared to a more complex 3D action/platforming/adventure game. The hard work is in all the tuning/tweaking that goes on throughout the project.

I never had a problem with the direction of the game itself, but with the business model. I've come to the conclusion that SMS and most members are a bit short sighted, as they look for the fastest way to make money, not the more solid or long-term suited. I would like a model such as Valve's, but most people don't want it. Democracy sucks, you know.

And I do believe we have input, when the community is vocal about something, it usually gets considered, proabbly added. It just turns out the community doesn't always want what I want or what you want. Again, democracy sucks. But I think a lot of tweaks and a lot of things have taken a turn from community's input.

I don't think anyone would consider this in beta state. There're a lot of things that need to be added, not just tweaked, being the "game" one of them. So no, I don't think it's a beta.

A lot of features are still in planning stage, how can it be a beta already?

I realize it's technically alpha software because it's lacking components like career progression and online multiplayer, but this is a really unconventional product and it seems weird to have 14000+ people essentially beta testing alpha software. It all just seems like semantics, much like Gmail being in beta for five years.

It's just the nature of how the product is being funded. There wouldn't be that much funding if there wasn't anything playable yet.

In its defense, not many of the games (sims) I've played had great crash physics. I think the closest I've gotten to something that resembles what I typically see on TV is in games like GTR2. Then again, I haven't played enough rFactor and haven't gotten into iRacing.

I'm inside your head! :-D

We haven't played with the FB, but F1 is FA, so... pick which car will it be!

Might as well pick the FA, FB is just baby formula that doesn't go as fast ;) . The FA is really easy to drive anyway so you can focus more on improving your racing line instead of learning to handle the car.

The thing with high downforce cars is you can go really hard on the breaks when you start braking to corners because of the downforce and then as you start slowing down ease up on the brakes a little to avoid locking them. I'm not entirely sure how accurate this is in pCARS since I've been practicing with the Williams in iRacing most of the time.

Another tip for the FA is to go in to turns faster than you think you should and turn more than you think you should.

I didn't much care for open wheel cars in general before the FA California Raceway TT. I used to think I wasn't good enough to drive the car anywhere close to it's limit but it's actually a surprisingly easy car to drive, it's more about learning the track than the car for me.

For the incoming TT I propose Montmeló, with the FA or FB. F1 weekend comes to pCARS. Let's make it happpen.

Not trying to influence you in any way but why not save Montmelo for the actual f1 weekend in two weeks and have Florence/Mugello as they are having tests there this week...

Yeah, it's an option, but we already had Mugello, so I thought we could race in the week that leads to the F1 race. Otherwise we would make it match in time, but mostly we would be driving after the F1 race, which is not as exciting in my eyes.

I'm open to suggestions though.

right, I had it wrong in my head...next week will of course be the week leading up to the race so that's perfect....carry on. :)

[edit] Though this will result in none of us watching the race as everyone is sick an tired of the track. ;)
