This picture thread has inspired me to make a Greasemonkey script that makes it easier to view threads with pictures. The idea of the script is that it allows you to jump from one image to the next with one click, instead of awkwardly trying to scroll from one to the next.

http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/6398

With this script, just press Ctrl + up and down arrows to cycle through the images. I recommend only activating it for certain sites, for instance "http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php*" as it can screw up the rendering of some pages.

Nice, if only there was also one that stops loading images on a page once the combined size of a page reaches a certain point, and lets you choose to load the remaining by clicking a placeholder or something. The PS3 screenshots thread slows my Firefox down to a crawl until it finishes swapping out all the virtual memory and stuff coz there is simply too many huge-ass pictures per page :/

I'm playing it... its fine for a launch game, we just forget what that means and think oh well games are at Okami / FF12 / God Hand level on the PS2, why is Red Steel so shitty in comparison and rank it downward.

Its a solid launch game but really suffers from deep flaws. It is very comparable to the first Red Faction in that respect. A great idea with no real glue.

I would say that any action game fan should pick it up for the Wii but never expect greatness; and when it comes in second-hand cheap, swoop on it. In a year, it will be unplayable.

Im so confused with Red Steel...It looks so fregin good yet reviews say it doesn't.

i think the problem is not the graphics, but the controls. people say they´re shitty.

i would ignore reviews that say it looks bad.

The controls have not been nearly as panned as has simply the gemeral mediocrity of the game.

Ooh. Good to see more from Heroes (or should that be "No More Heroes" now?) but I've got to say that those pics don't look quite as impressive as the trailer suggested. Perhaps it's a case of early-ish development & crappy scans, but they look fairly average - and the gorgeous artstyle evident in the trailer seems to have been toned down a lot...

Like i said, screenshots don't mean jack. Once you see Red Steel in motion (25 frames per second), you remember how little stills mean. The game is not smooth by any means.

And did anyone notice the big red watermark telling us foreigners not to reproduce those images? Sounds like Famitsu doesn't like Gaf.

Red Steel does look good in stills. I guess when Ubi threw all those extra people at it (100+ person development team) it was mostly for the art side. You can't force good design. I've seen this happen time and time again. If the leader of the project makes bad decisions regarding control and gameplay concepts then there is no way to fight it.

From reviews it sounds like the controls just never got there. That is such a subjective area of gameplay. You can't look at it like graphics and say if it is good or bad. It is like adjusting the handling of a car. Some people like it one way and others like it another. And it takes a combination of experience and awareness to know what is going to be good for the majority of people. Something that the control designer on Red Steel apparently lacked.

kind of fun looking through this thread. some shots you can see games that are MARKEDLY improved over last gen. Still not 360/PS3 level (well, except for sloppy ports) but definitely pleasing to the eye and not ugly by any stretch.

of course there are a bunch of shots/games which look like average GCN games also.

Hajime no Ippo: The Fighting Revolution

scr_012.jpg

Anyone else notice that the pointer cursor is in almost EVERY gameplay shot of Hajime no Ippo, and that on the official website, the three pictures of people playing show them aiming at the screen with the wiimote like a pointer? :( this makes me sad. I was so looking forward to a deeper, more refined Wii Boxing, with supers and style.

yeah, someone played the game and said you move the cursor around and press A(?) to punch. He wasn't very happy with the game at all.

I'm rather iffy about Elebits. I haven't seen anything that convinces me it's much more than an uglier and gimped Garry's Mod.

I just hope that this news turns out to be true:

It probably won't :(

Does Pokemon Wii REALLY look good, or are they tricking us by flooding the screens with fake bloom/spectral lighting?

Like this pic:

I didn't know sleeves were square, trees were very flat pixels, nor did fingers have sharp angles....

Lol j/k. The game really does look awesome.

Pokémon Battle Revolution

The entire (new) set.

And I'll be the one that says it, if nobody else will. If Nintendo can pull this game off and make it look like this in motion (even if it does need composites to do it), they've reached next gen. Serious. These look ****ing amazing, and shame on anyone that doesn't agree that Wii is the little system that could. That's assuming that these shots are real, though. ;)

Holy ****ing shit @ Pokemon! That game is looking fabulous! I can only hope that Nintendo isn't screwing around with those shots, and the game looks just as good in motion. I would have to agree that if that is indeed the case, Wii is shaping up to be a more capable system than everyone imagined (presentation wise).

Okay, so... someone answer this:

480p

n20061130_pbr_42.jpg

480i

n20061130_pbr_43.jpg

???

That's what it looks like to me.

But the resolution is too high on both these shots to say for sure.

Hey guys. I want to talk about elebits for a sec.

Is this game going to rule? Is this our unspoken-of Pikmin? Is this the Wii's Katamari? What exactly is this game going to be? Clearly, playing it will be the ultimate determination, but is this one of those games that could showcase the reason that the WiiMote is an actual revolution?

Personally, I think it has that potential. There are a lot of things going on here. The graphics kinda blow, but one might look at Katamari from last gen to show you that graphics don't have to be anything more than representational to get the point across, and Elebits certainly has an edge on that game. Obviously it will come down to control, and how well it controls comes down to what kind of an impact it will have.

I'd obviously have to play it first, but I would put my preconception feeling of this game up there with Trauma Center: Second Opinion as far as showcasing the potential of the Wii. Moreover, I think games like this can not only justify the Wii purchase, but it makes the case that the Wii is the only place that one might ever get to play games like this.

It comes down to control, and of course, fun.

Red Steel definitely has a lot of effects going on, reflections, glass transaprencies, Bloom (HDR?), heat haze.... plus ragdools and a lot of smoke and a few good lightning effects.
You might not like the design or controls, and the framerate is definitely choppy but it definitely shows at least the Wii is capable of these effects. You've got to give them credit for trying and not just using a Gamecube engine.
I'm pretty sure we'll get some very good looking Wii tittles.

By the way, I'm having fun with Red Steel :)

I don't know how Elebits is going to turn out, I have my doubts as far as the depth of the gameplay is concerned.
BUT it might be the first Wii game to let you interact with objects in full 3D, and I want to try that!

re: Pokemon. This is something that has been bothering me about the game, and about the Wii in general. If these are real shots, they are truly indicative of Wii's next-gen potential from a graphical standpoint. However, it's my understanding that the game has very little motion sensing. Is it possible that the more a game has motion sensing, the more crippled its graphics become? I'd be very curious if this connection existed.

I think what matters too is how good the level design is. It can really make or break the game. It needs clever puzzles that will really surprise and reward.

I for one can't wait for this game. The combination of awesome and unique gameplay with the connect 24 features (which more games need to take advantage of) really make it a must buy in my book.

That take/send a screenshot feature is needed in EVERY game BTW.
