Well Ni No Kuni has been predictably brutal on my productivity. Did manage to get through Uncharted 3 but that wasn't a purchase. I've at least beaten more games than I've bought, it's just unfortunate that around half of those have been GameFly rentals [though it's nice that I didn't have to buy those games also, minor victories and all that]. I'll continue chipping away at Ni No Kuni and hopefully get more time in with shorter games but GameFly was nice enough to ship me another full-fledged JRPG which is kind of the worst. I've put about an hour into Soul Hackers since getting it yesterday and I've put around 25 hours into Ni No Kuni with no end in sight. I'm at least really enjoying it but I'd almost prefer not enjoying it so I could return it and have that time burden gone. :(

I thought about picking up some of the 3DS sale titles, the Guild01 games or whatever, but I may put them off because my backlog is pretty depressing and GameFly isn't helping.

Ugh I think I've ended up wasting hours of Romancing SaGa 2 progressing with a party that cannot defeat the final boss. It makes me want to outright quit the backlog effort. At least I have a previous save, but it'll probably take 15-20 more hours after reloading a previous save and acquiring the necessary stuff before time runs out.

Finally got around to playing through my back log of PS3 exclusives (with Enslaved and Crysis thrown in). Feels good man! Finished 8 games since April 20th! That is probably a record for me. I tend to just go back to old favourites rather than start new games.

I won't be updating for a while so I wanted to check-in. I haven't played anything since Odin Sphere, so almost 2 weeks. My wife and I are making costumes for an upcoming Anime Convention and that's where I'm putting all my free time until they're done, which tbh will probably be right up until the convention, which is Aug 9.

I also couldn't pass up on the Best Buy DotD today, which is Halo 4 for $18, so I just bought it. I had a RZ coupon for $5 off so it made it $13.77 after tax, whoo!

On the Agenda
Going to start up System Shock 2 and Shadows of the Damned soon. I was hit by low prices this month for old games. Despite adding 4 new games to my backlog, they only ran me about $25 total between all 4, which is nice. Played through PoP first, was okay but not great, then ME3 which was also good, but not as great as ME2 (in my opinion). Both of those were time sinks and took most of my attention, but I'll be moving on to the other two games I purchased this month before buying anything else new.

A little sad my progress dipped, but I'm still overall in the positive for the year so we'll see what I can clear out next month.

- Picked up a Wii U Premium since the local store dropped the price (I believe permanently) with 700 NOK.
- I wasn't planning to by MGR: Revengeance just yet. But I couldn't resist 2700 yen bomba price @ Amazon Japan.
- The next 2-3 weeks I should have more time to clean my backlog. Since I'll only be working on Saturday until the end of June, for better or worse.

The audio in Corpse Party was amazing and the story was compelling enough...but all the shitty design decisions reminded me why I don't play ADVs unless their titles begin with "Zero Escape". So I guess that was worth rediscovering.
...It's also badly programmed. How the fuck is the save file 7+ MB (ALMOST THE SIZE OF AN ENTIRE PS2 MEMORY CARD) when the game doesn't even keep track of the dialogue I've seen before? Why can't I delete intra-chapter saves when I'm done with them? How did one of the name tags end up unobtainable in the English version and why has that gone unpatched for a year? Just ugh.

I enjoyed everything else I played despite burning out on the collectathon in Luigi's Mansion near the end. Favorite of the month was—surprisingly—Art of Balance Touch.

Preview for June: I'm more than halfway through Rhythm Thief and the Emperor's Treasure, which has wildly exceeded my (...admittedly very low) expectations.

May is a fucking disaster to me. I was doing really really well and not spending anything buying games. I did get a few App Store games but they're free and I really liked them so I included them in my list. But midway through the month, the Amazon sale got me, since I really really want to play Age of Empires II HD, I bought Age of Empires III in order to get a $5 credit for AoEIIHD. I could have waited for a Steam Sale, but Im craving for it after I was able to play it on my friends PC.

I see people include free games here most of the time but I rarely do it unless I really really like the games. Heck, I didn't even include the four free games Sony gave for the PSVita since I didn't like them. Earlier in May, I was craving for some Visual Novels and Tower Defense games and I stumbled on a few on the App Store. First, Junipers Knot is a well made visual novel, its charming, endearing and the music, along with the art is great too. I'll check out the other games of Dischan next time. The next two where some games I happen to see on the App Store page. I got them since they're were free, Radiant Defense caught me off guard at first since there were some mechanics that I wasn't used to yet, but ended up being more enjoyable as I progressed. Pudding Monsters I expected to be some sort of clone game or something but it was actually a very good puzzle game, and very good design too with the pick-up and play style and it gets addictive later on. Fieldrunners was one of the most suggested TD game most of the time so I ended up buying it since I still have some funds on my account. Im indifferent on it actually, I can't say its the best, but definitely one of the best TD games I've played. For the 3DS purchases, I was only planning to get Oracle of Ages/Seasons, but the wait got me so I bought Crimson Shroud at the last minute while it was still on sale. The game reminded me a lot of the 'Maze' pen&paper games I used to play with my friends back in gradeschool. Although it was mostly simple flip-coin rules and dungeons on a paper. Really love the mechanics of Crimson Shroud, while I know many want a Crimson Shroud 2, I'd prefer them to use the gameplay mechanics here for a full-blown RPG next time.

While I had a bad record on games bought last month, I did pretty well on shaving off quite a few more games on my list especially a few on Steam. I was cleaning my files on my PC when I stumbled on some installers of games. Blue Wish Resurrection Plus and Edens Aegis were very good doujin shmups, I wonder why I didn't install and play them last year. Another installer I found was Narcissu and Narcissu Side 2nd, and I must say, its been a long time since I got teary-eyed on a visual novel, add also how the music is so good. The feels after playing both games and get very emotional for days ;_; For the Steam games, I tried getting into the Fallout 3 and New Vegas but I just couldn't. I think this is the third time I attempted to play them but I didn't like them. Guess I'm more into the fantasy and medieval setting of Elder Scrolls series. Fortune Summoners is kinda weird for me, what I didn't like most is the save system and also the weird physics. The sensitivity for the controls isn't helping either. But I still prefer Recettear and Chantelise among Carpe Fulgurs games.

Right now, Im still playing a shit ton of Age of Empires II HD. Still haven't delved into online multiplayer
I'm afraid to get crushed
but playing the different modes and practicing various strategies I read online will take my time. The campaigns were already a timesink. Also have to finish Crimson Shroud along with both Zelda Oracle games on my 3DS. Hopefully this will tide me over until SMTIV. I also want Dodonpachi Saidaioujou, but have limited funds right now and still no job :(

Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal (5/13) - The only thing I didn't like about it was the completely useless holoshield. Everything else was lots of fun.

Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction (5/17) - I was a little less impressed with this installment mainly because it was obvious most of the enemies were meant to be defeated by specific weapons which kind of forced the player to play a specific way. Other than that I really enjoyed it.

Donkey Kong Country Returns (5/28) - I really wanted to like this but so many of the levels were just so horribly designed. Enemies and platforms are placed in such a way that it is difficult for the player to get into a rhythm. The fact that the checkpoints are so horribly placed and the game is designed around memorization over reaction make it an incredibly tedious experience instead of the fun and challenging game I was hoping for.

I still have to unlock the omg option and complete the hardest trials (akira, i'm looking at you), but other than that, there is nothing more for me here.​

• Ico HD beaten: Nice experience, and quite original too. I like the song "You Were There" A LOT.​
• Rayman Origins beaten too: What a surprise this game was. I didn't like the demo (mostly because of the music), but the full game is really good. I look forward to Rayman Legends.​

Of course GameFly shipped out Fire Emblem after I returned Soul Hackers, and of course Humble and Amazon decided to eat me alive. Pretty bad month in terms of purchases but I absolutely adored The Swapper, and The Yawhg was a very pleasant surprise that I didn't even know existed until two days before it came out, thanks to Leigh Alexander on Twitter. I'm glad I got through Ni No Kuni and I'm looking forward to finally turning it around this month, this is the one, I can definitely feel it... :( I keep thinking I'll crank through some adventure games but we'll see if I actually hold myself to it this time.

In terms of early to mid-June releases, only Last of Us and Gunpoint have any real sense of attention right now, whereas State of Decay [assuming it comes out soon], Remember Me, and Animal Crossing 3DS [oh the tragedy that would be] don't have that level of interest yet. And I'm patient enough for Last of Us to just wait on a rental through GameFly, so at the very least I'd like to see myself end up on the positive side for June update 1. Not having two massive RPGs [only one this time!!!!] will hopefully help out. I also did a lot of silly meandering with various MMOs [Defiance free weekend, Neverwinter, Dust 514] and I'm probably done with those, so hoping for some focus.

LEGO City Undercover - I actually kind of enjoy collect-athon platformers, but the downside to this one is having to replay missions and revisit areas after you find new abilities. Now that I've beat the story I can go do all that but I wish they didn't design so much retreading into the game.

Puzzle Agent - WTF at the ending.
Puzzle Agent 2 - Alright, I guess you could call that a story. Even if that went unchanged, I'd probably like the series if the puzzles were less repetitive.
Shank - "Pin the enemies against the side of the screen and just keep slashing" worked more than it probably should. I have no real complaints about the combat system though really, there's a lot of options to the player and it's responsive enough. Sadly though the game others nothing else aside from the combat, unless you want to count the super bland environments.

Currently Playing:

Trials Evolution: Gold Edition (Steam) - I have both Trials games on 360 but never completed either of them. I'm sure I'll hit the same difficulty spikes here and stop all over again. It's just nicer playing it up close on my monitor. Don't understand why the framerate isn't better though.

Metro 2033 (Steam) - I was hoping to finish this before I got Last Light from Gamefly, but that didn't work out so I sent that back. I'll get to it someday. As for this one, I'm in chapter 4. I've hit major roadblocks trying to get through certain areas, but I still enjoy the experience.

Dust: An Elysian Tale (Steam) - Started this 5 days ago and I'm nearly 70% done. Can't play anything else until I'm done with this. It's just too good, especially when that much needed difficulty spike hit at around the 50% mark. Prior to that I was worried the entire game would be a flying dust storm cake walk.

Assassin's Creed II: Deluxe Edition- It was fun but I didn't really care for the story or combat that much. Platforming was a blast though.

LEGO Lord of the Rings Retail- I really enjoyed this game. A grand adventure through all the best moments in every LOTR film

Bioshock Infinite- I have way too much praise for this game.

Zeno Clash- Bizarre story, music and art. I loved every moment of it. Really short though

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl- Most immersive game I've played. Eerie atmosphere and story. Intense gun fights.

Still working on our cosplay costumes but we're super ahead of schedule so we both have had time for games. She's been playing Bioshock 1, as for me, Fable 2 is beat. I won't elaborate here but I absolutely hated this game. 5/10. Regardless, I still plan on playing the 3rd plus The Journey Kinect game, which isn't actually in my backlog but her's.

Best Buy had a Deal of the Day, Halo 4 for $18. I had a $5 off coupon so it was $13.77 after tax, there was no way I was passing up on that and I broke my "No New Games until Backlog is cleared" vow. I have Dragon's Crown preordered as well so there goes that. I still plan on being very strict with my purchases, I just couldn't pass that up though. Halo 4 is next plus more costume work.

Finished Lego City for 3DS last night. Overall I enjoyed it but it felt a little repetitive after 5 hours, not enough variety. Loved using the different disguises to solve the puzzles though. I think it succeeded as an open world 3DS game, sometimes the loading times bugged me but they weren't too awful.

Sly Cooper
Can't believe a 11 year old game still plays this well. Short and sweet platformer that was hard to fault. Might have to pick up the collection now but heard the other 2 are a bit different.

The Last Of Us
Top tier story though a slight blot on it for me with average gameplay. Well worth the journey. Best played blind than talked about (or listen to my ramblings).
