Nintendo WFC Online Activity (W/E August 12th)

After the amazing week following the release of Pokémon in Europe and Mario Strikers in America it may surprise you that the number of connections almost didn't drop at all this week.

For this week we have another big week, with Pokémon actually growing in connections, and Mario Strikers holding it 2nd spot from last week, but just barely above Animal Crossing with less than a thousand connections separating them.

Also, after the failure that was Mega Man Star Force in Japan, they are this weeks surprise, and enters at #11 on this weeks chart. Pretty awesome, and they seem to be able to hit a bit into the Top 10 already next week. Fantastic.

Next week we'll see a lot of online releases in America, and Madden looks to be very interesting for Wii. It could after all we know be huge.

The complete chart for week 32 of 2007 can be seen underneath.

Please note

- The number of connections listed in here is not unique connections, just the total number of connections for the service during the past week.

- These data are straight off of Nintendo's Wi-Fi site, through the freeware program WFCStatus.

- A Top 75 will be released by me within the next hour. This month I'll also do a quick note of number of connections for upcoming games I have gathered this week, to see how much testing the developers are doing on their Nintendo online games.

---------------------This weeks Top 10---------------------

Right now I won't separate the list in DS / Wii, but I will do this, as more games get released for Wii.

Info on that Jikyou game on Wii?

Drop for Strikers again :(

Transformers is holding well. The publisher and dev must be so happy. I didn;t even expect it to be this popular.

I'm doing an almost complete list for the service within the next hour, it'll be on there.

Strikers has done pretty well, IMO. Remember, it had connection problems last week, which made the number of connection go up sky high. There were no such problems this week, so almost all of these are actual connections :) It's pretty darn close to Animal Crossing, though!

I'm amazed at the consistency of Animal Crossing. It's been out for ages and still ranks highly online, I didn't think its audience would take to wi-fi so much.

BTW, thanks for the weekly charts.

Oh ok thats cool.

I hope strikers stays up there for a while. Animal Crossing is a beast..even beating out Mario Kart which doesn't even need friend codes.

Wait when was Brawl confirmed online?

Just an assumption by the majority of the fans.

Brawl could easily sell a couple million more if they had full online functionality. If they don't include it something is seriously wrong at Nintendo.

Besides the activity for released games Kevin from WFCS and I have gathered a few game codes for upcoming onlinegames, which enable us to see how much testing they're going through. Seeing as we don't have all the game codes for upcoming games, beneath is a Top 10 over activity in the games where we know the codes. Enjoy :)

1. [WII] FIFA 2008 - 1,017 connections
2. [NDS] Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Toki no Tankentai - 853 connections
3. [NDS] Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Yami no Tankentai - 746 connections
4. [WII] NBA Live 2008 - 670 connections
5. [WII] Battalion Wars II - 634 connections
6. [WII] Madden NFL 2008 - 618 connections
7. [NDS] World Soccer Winning Eleven DS Goal x Goal! - 536 connections
8. [NDS] Pro Yakyuu Famista DS - 294 connections
9. [WII] Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock - 236 connection
10. [WII] Bass Fishing Wii - 217 connections

Closest this week was: Ghost Squad (Wii) with 134 connections. Remember, this list is only generation for the game codes we have and have figured out which game they're for :)

I always enjoy this thread, even though the data movements are always very slight its a much better gage of which games have enduring popularity than sales data is.

It looks like that the transformers game is actually still being played quiet a bit and may deserve some of those sales the DS version has been racking up.

Once most multiplayer titles get online for the Wii this data will be priceless as you can watch the rise and fall of games. Eg will Strikers drop when Fifa is released?

The only code I'm not really sure of is the one of Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, but I can't find anything else that code would work for (GL) and GH or G3 doesn't work.

I got to ask, though. Did you guys expect Mega Man Star Force to do this well? It's a total shocker for me, didn't it fail completely in Japan?

I'm more surprised that the GS-exclusive Dragon has more connections than the two widely available versions.

Was Ghost Squad supposed to have some sort of Wi-Fi connectivity? This is the first I've heard of it.

I remember it is online but not what exactly it allows you to do. From the PR, it says:

Ghost Squad features four different modes of play including Arcade mode, Multiplayer mode, Training mode, and Special mode. Players can also track their personal performances against other players via the Wii’s online functionality.

So I guess that's pretty much it. Nothing big.

Ladies and gentlemen, we'll most likely have a new entry on the Top 10 next week. Madden NFL 2008 for Wii. Now, a lot of games got released in America yesterday, and a bunch of them had online. Here's a little report of first day number of connections and the status for some of the other interesting games on the service at the moment. All numbers are for Tuesday the 14th of August, if nothing else is mentioned.

-------

* Madden NFL 2008 for Wii butchered it all yesterday. Being released as one of the most popular series in America and on the most popular console in America at the moment, it did 22,132 connections (!!!) yesterday. I understand that the game leaked early in some stores, is that correct? The number of connections monday tallied up to 1,839. This is the first region where Madden NFL 2008 is released.
Sadly I don't have the code for Madden NFL 2008 on DS, but if anyone has the game, please contact me in this thread or send a private message :).

The next two games has been out in Japan for a while.

* Rune Factory unfortunately didn't see any real boost with its release in America. 45 connections yesterday, being 31 on monday.

* Same thing with Luminous Arc, 77 connections yesterday.

Now, some of the previously released games and how they're holding up.

* The Mega Man Star Force-series made quite an effort last week. Yesterday the three games together gathered 10,930 connections.

* After the very close call this week, I expect people are exited about how Mario Strikers and Animal Crossing will fair this week. So far for the week (monday + tuesday) it's

Mario Strikers Charged Football - 124,141 connections
Animal Crossing: Wild World - 122,841 connections

Upcoming Games

* The most active non-released game yesterday was FIFA 2008 with 287 connections.

Aww, it hurts me to see Rune Factory and Luminous Arc performing so weak. But at least Rune Factory probably isn't exactly what you want to play online anyway. And LA isn't the game where you want to jump right from the start in the online competition. But still disappointing.
And hopefully my Luminous Arc copy arrives this week. Still hyped for my SRPG. :D

Madden going top 10 would be fantastic for the Wii casual online statistics.

The more average gamers that get online with Wii the better the service will become.

Again - cheers for the update! :D

Admitted, I didn't think it did that well, but online these past few weeks it's been a bummer, and that was half of what I was refering to.

I didn't even think you'd be able to get the EA numbers. I thought they used a completely different online service from Nintendo.

I should be able to get data from all games for Nintendo DS and Wii supporting Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection / online. The EA games has a different online system, but the service is the same :).

Madden Wii is at 17k for wednesday. Didn't expect it to go down yet :(

No change in Luminous Arc for wednesday either, but Rune Factory actually got a boost. 49 connections tuesday, 628 connections yesterday. Pretty good raise, I'd say :D

FIFA 2008 for Wii is still the most active game yet to be released, 545 connections yesterday.
EDIT: My bad, Famista DS is higher, 565 connections.

How did I miss this topic when it got first posted? Thanks for the numbers as always, Bo.

Nice top75 list as well - man, I hope Strikers can hang on a little bit more. Apparently Madden's online service is pretty borked, so until this is ironed out (if ever) don't expect the online to go soaring.

oh, and do you know when FIFA 08 is due?

The list of upcoming online games in the OP should be up-to-date for the most part :)

Oh, you mean for Europe? September 28th, I think. I'll add it next week.

I hope both Mega Man Star Force and Madden Wii enters the Top 10 next week, could make things quite interesting! :D

end of September, alright!

I'm interested in a footy game on Wii (mainly to see how they handle the controls), we'll see how it turns out.
