Laura proved herself as quite the reliable insider with Switch tidbits last month, and has been posting steady updates on what she's been hearing since. This is her latest:

Today’s report, backed up by one previously used source and one new source who I have vetted thoroughly, is that UK specialist gaming retail chain GAME has been informed of the Nintendo Switch’s wholesale price to retailers, and is planning on selling their basic SKU of the system in stores for £199.99.

It is important to note this is not a Nintendo set RRP, as in the UK manufacturers are not allowed to set RRP prices for consoles. However, it is safe to assume this gives us a solid indication of the price the system will sell at nationwide.

We have also learned that a separate SKU featuring more internal storage and a packed in game is planned to sell at £249.99. We have heard rumours as to what this pack in game is, but we currently have only one source on this information so we are unwilling to talk about that pack in title at this time.

Both our sources have told us that additional Switch Pro Controllers are expected to sell at launch for £39.99 at GAME.

Lastly, we have been told that Nintendo is planning for the Switch to be close to direct conversion price comparable across regions, which we have been told is tied into their push for the system to be region free. This would in theory put the USA price of the system at approximately $249.99 and $299.99 (This is based off conversions, not any insider information).

If this comes to pass, I for one will be personally very pleased to snatch the premium version of the Switch for $50 bucks less than what the basic Wii U version costed...Yeah, it'd be an ideal price for me!

I'd assume the premium version would have MK bundled if true, would be the most casual/hardcore mix title to pack in and if it's just an enhanced port, not too costly.

Hoping its a Zelda bundle.

Edit: meant to say I hope there will be a Zelda bundle, but as people have pointed out it would probably be a bad idea, at least on release.

Good news, $300 might have been a tough sell, but $250 is a very good value for the system. Hope they have a great Nintendo game (Zelda or Mario 3D) and some fun third party big game (Skyrim?) available for launch.

I doubt it to be honest, it may be Mario Kart Switch, but Zelda is such a big game that they will probably sell it separately to make big bucks on it. Still, Mario Kart pack-in would be awesome for me.

Switch Sports won't be a thing at launch I wager, they didn't even bother with Wii Sports when the U launched, or even throughout it's lifespan. Splatoon while popular, is not very casual friendly in comparison. I imagine Nintendo will want their bundle game to be as popular and accessible as possible.

MK is basically the poster child for 'everyone', and also a great way to help move your system, i'd certainly not personally mind Splatoon as I prefer it though.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
Pack-in will be to 99% a new IP in the vein of Wii Sports/Nintendo Land. They want you to buy Mario Kart, Zelda, Splatoon etc. seperate - thats where they make their money.

Is what I predicted. Basically same.price as what Wii launched for. Wii was £180 but due to inflation and drop on the £, £200 is really cheap. In comparison the official PS4 price is £250 though you can grab one for like £230 these days.

£250 with a 3D Mario game and it's region free and I am there day one. I hope the launch isn't too heavy on the Wii U ports.

Mario Kart is the safest guess for the bundled game. It is obviously the most popular game in the current lineup we know of across all regions.

If the pack in is an enhanced port, that's a lot different than a brand new game I imagine. Though Nintendo will NEVER bundle Zelda in my opinion, too many rabid fans will suck that up immediately and it likely is incredibly expensive dev wise.

Let's be fair here. Wii U was a mess from the word go. It had little to no planning or thought put into it and everyone could see it.

I'm down for the most premium SKU, no matter what that may be. $300 is fine by me. Just give me double the storage of the $250 SKU and maybe some pack-in software and we'll call it good.

Is it possible they are going 32GB for the cheaper and 64 for the more expensive one? I just hope the base unit doesn't have 16... that's barely anything.

You can get a 64GB SD card for well under $20, sometimes around $10-$12. I know that's not a 1:1 conversion as the memory type/speed/etc included is not necessary the same, but as a reference point it stands to reason that 64GB storage is not that expensive to bump up from 32GB.

I agree with this. It also keeps the costs for that SKU low, as the budget for such a game wouldn't be too big.

Then they would need to shell out money to the company, for a likely far less popular title. For Nintendo, the cost of updating and bundling one of their own titles is likely far less than paying a dev a fee for every console sold, which I believe is standard practice.

Nah, the 3ds is getting a 100 dollar bundle that will sell in 10 minutes on one day this year, should be able to beat that easily.

It's basically an easy way to increase profit margins per unit sold depending on what comes packed in. Get everyone to spend an extra $50 for what potentially will not cost them much at all.

If you think of it in fast food terms, going from small to medium is a big price increase, but from medium to large is only about half of that previous increase.

This way they can say you can get in on the fun starting at $249.99, but give you the dilemma when you go to buy the system of getting all that extra stuff for just a little bit more money.

It doesnt matter if its just enhanced - those games will be the biggest sellers on Switch and Nintendo knows that people will buy them.Just look what kind of system the Switch is - owning something like Mario Kart or Splatoon will be a No-brainer. It sounds weird - but they wont bundle games that people will buy anyway. Especially if those enhanced/remasters are a bit cheaper.

Its possible...but that would also mean that they didnt work on some new software that really shows off the system features and possibilities - which is unlikely.

The premium system is more expensive, and likely 80 percent of that increase comes from the cost of the game, they would still be making a lot of money on the game. If it's just some extra storage space, we all know that doesn't amount to much in actual cost. It would only be unusual if all the units had it regardless.

Unclear. My guess would be that it'll come with that core thing that the Joy-Cons can connect to, but the Pro controller (what I presume you're talking about) will always be separate.
