Well, 2008 is looking like a truly boring year so far.

Premiering in December:

Saa! Iko Tamagocchi

At least it isn't another shiny boringly animated "bishoujo" show. Going by the design, anyway.

Ah! Megami-sama! Tatakau Tsubasa

Lovely! More romantic relationships that fail to go anywhere!

AYAKASHI

Action porn visual-novel adaptation with generic character design. Exciting!

Haruka Naru Toki no Naka de 3 -Kurenai no Tsuki

Third sequel to a reverse harem about a priestess girl and her eight highly attractive magical knights. You know you've watched too much anime when "reverse harem" is a genre to you.

Premiering in January

H2O~FOOTPRINTS IN THE SAND~

Animated version of another "porn with plot" game. Expect no porn and ugly outsourcing killing an already terrible art direction.

Sisters of Wellber: Dainimaku

Sequel to a fairly uninteresting IG project that from IG only has the name.

Rosario to Vampire

Gonzo Jump fanservice manga adaptation about a school for monsters, most of which are obviously "hot chicks".

They are my noble Masters.

Holy porn without porn Batman! Guy falls into the servitude of some badly designed supposedly beautiful girls.

Hatenkou Yuugi

Even if I do like the character art, the staff seems completely unappealing and the production is by DEEN. Shame since the synopsis sounded nice.

true tears

Terrible name, pseudo-artsy badly written summary, more visual novel crap... wait, WHAT? Junji Nishimura is in charge? Sure, he IS guilty of Kyo TV, Soul Hunter, Zenki and Simoun but Windy Tales was decent enough for me to think a little of the possibility of not dismissing this without a single chance. Still, first actual full production for P.A Works, who previously just did a few outsourced episodes for DtB here and there. Sigh, I know I'm to regret this...

Shigofumi

Light-novel based, about a "shy but hard-working girl and her talkative staff" that create miracles by delivering post-hummus letters from the land of the death. Helmed by the Tatsuo Sato of Cat Soup and Tokyo Tribes 2 despite carrying the shameful composition of Geass' infamous Okouchi.

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei Second Season

First series lost it charm by episode 10 by ineffectively rehashing Shinbo's directorial quirks to the point of tedium.

Porfy’s Long Journey

Finally! The revival of World Masterpiece Theatre brings forth a worthy design for their new proposal! Adaptation from Bonzon's "The Orphans of Simitria", with screenplay by the fairly unknown Kei Kunii but directed by veteran Tomomi Mochizuki, who you may recognize from classics such as KOR and Fancy Lala or little but interesting minor productions like Seraphim Call or Zettai Shounen. Expect no subs.

Persona -Trinity Soul-

I don't really know what to expect, the staff may go anywhere and the setting is 10 years after P3 conclusion. Enemies are zombies, if nothing else.

Hakaba Kitaro

Taking over Noitamina slot. Another incarnation of GeGeGe no Kitarou.

Noramimi

The manga was quirky fun with corporate mascots and wacky Japanese antics but I'm not sure about this yet. Must be the union between an average director and TMS Entertainment at production.

Wolf and Spice

Another light-novel that becomes animation, a tale on the travels between traveling merchant Craft and a wolf sage in the shape of a cocky pretty girl named Horo. It's by the "brilliant" team behind Cosmopolitan Prayers and Love Love, so obviously you should only watch when looking for boobs or something.

ARIA The ORIGINATION

Rowing slowly is preferred here, part 4.

Major Season 4

Not a big fan, but it seems to have quite the following here.

Yatterman Remake

Am I the only one that believes this has a better design that most of the other stuff set to air this season?

I completely skipped out on anime last season, and it looks like I'll be doing it again. Hopefully one of these shows are surprisingly good but at a quick glance that doesn't seem like it will be the case.

Oh shit, a new Yatterman!? Awesome,I love the Time Bokan series but figured Tatsunoko was finally done with it. Guess they won't get away with all the sleazy naked breasts shots anymore though.

Gotta say it looks like a weak year. Only really interested in seeing 4°C's Detroit Metal City so far.

what. Asides from winter season, this looks like the best year since 2004.

Oh, right, i forgot, its 7th.

nm, carry on!

Grizzlyjin

Supersonic, idiotic, disconnecting, not respecting, who would really ever wanna go and top that
Yuck, worst anime season in recent memory.

Name a few examples please, I wanna know.

Yes! January 5th I'm there. This season sucked so much balls. I hope things will be better with my favorite despairing teacher.

BTW... the description of the first season is pretty accurate. I'd say it lost its charm by the 6th or 7th episode, actually. Like i said, I have hope. Doesn't look good this season, tho.

Wow.. not much to watch. I thought fall was slim but winter looks just as bad.

Been out of the loop, but I had heard that a second season of Geass was supposed to air in winter? Guess not :lol

Yeah this season really looks like it'll suck worse than last season. Ghost Hound has proven itself to certainly be nothing amazing, but it's the best thing on. I just started Kaiji which is different, but goddammit is the narrator stating the obvious annoying as hell, and the drawn-out, dramatic way the dumbest things are done is really making this show as tedious to watch as GH with its plot developing at a snail's pace.

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei 2 is all I need. (that, and the subbed version of episode 12 of season 1)

Yeah, I thought 11 was the best in a while. I'm tired of waiting for subs, it's inspiration enough to work through the winter on improving my Japanese. [/nerd]

Agreed. Pretty uninteresting year in all apart from Gurren Lagann, can't even remember what else I watched this year :/

C'mon, this year had Lagann, Mononoke and Coil! Not to mention other little fun rides like Moribito, Oh! Edo Rocket or Baccano.

I only watched Seirei no Moribito to the end.

Gundam 00 still in the process but I hate the characters and its so-so

Gurren Langen I will pick that up when I get back to the United States.

Honestly I think Seirei no Moribito was the best I've seen in the past 2-3 years. Great character development and all. In fact I will probably start reading the translated novels.

Have to agree. I haven't even been remotely interested in anything besides Ghost Hound and Denno Coil the latter I stopped watching after a few episodes

Gotta see Yatterman. I remember watching it as a lil' snot.

The rest looks meh though I'm (kinda) interested in Wolf and Spice.

This year was awesome; Gurren Lagann, Seirei no Moribito, Darker than Black, Toward the Terra, Dennou Coil, Baccano, Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei... pretty good stuff, imo.

As for this season... I think Zoku Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei is the only thing I'll be watching, pretty awesome, I'm glad it got a second season. I haven't played any game from the Persona series so I don't know if I should give Persona a chance... any other would be by recommendation from here :p

Kinda looking forward to Minami-ke Okawari, but again, I liked the character designs of the 1st a lot more. Might turn out okay though.

Wolf and Spice is a maybe, the manga is certainly interesting, reminds me of Kino's Journey. Don't like the designs of the anime all that much, but it's not horrid, so I'll give it a go.

Aside from that, I'm not really looking forward to anything. Noramimi seems interesting though, I might check that out.
Also thought the next Hidamari Sketch would've been premiering by now. Guess it may be Spring then.

Darker than Black started out real strong but I hate how they ended it. The series minus the last episode = 11/10 from me.

I downloaded Toward the Terra and I forgot about it thanks for reminding me, I needed something to watch.

Hrm, Major, Porphy, Persona, and Sisters of Wellber are probably the ones I'll check out for winter. A pretty meh season overall though.

I think a few people misunderstood my words so I'll clarify: 2007 was a great year, it's 2008 what looks like gigantic bore.

Mnemosyne is the only thing I have any vague interest in (aside from maybe some more Zetsubou-sensei, though I haven't really even kept up with season 1 much).

Pretty crap-tastic season.

EDIT: Add Porphy to my list, assuming anyone subs it.

Meanwhile, two titles have appeared on the list of shows Viz Media is shopping around to broadcasters and distributors in the US at the coming NATPE Conference in January.

HUNTER X HUNTER

and

MONSTER

Both of which get a nice big "FINALLY!!!" from me.

This is true, but in this case, both series are listed with "DVD Rights: YES" in their profiles under Viz's listing.

What I'm not certain of is if that means they are shopping the DVD rights or they already own the DVD rights. Though series that are already being released on DVD also have a "YES" in that column, so I'm going to guess it means the rights are owned.

Well, seems like I forgot Gunslinger Girls 2... which I don't really care a lot about.
I enjoyed the first season, so i suppose i will get this. Nothing else this season interests me. Very depressing.

That's great to see. I never saw Hunter, but I love Monster.

This is completely off-topic, but has any anime distributors besides Funimation announced plans to support Itunes?

The story for this one is supposed to be good, so I wouldn't write it off just because its a game>anime conversion. World with ESP powers, people get eaten alive, decapicated, etc...

It would be generic except
the protagonist is blind.

The anime adaptation looks horrible... not so sure about this one.

Discounting the staff, the story itself is nice and the manga/light novel is definitely interesting. Economics anime ftw.
