How does the PSP part work? Just a separate download for a separate price, or is it linked to the PS3 somehow?

Eg if I rent or buy the HD version can I also get access to a PSP version?

Here's hoping a release in Scandinavia by next year, even though it says rest of Europe by 10'.

Considering Sony gave us the finger regarding PlayTV, it wouldn't surprise me if they shat on Scandinavia again :(

Exactly. But the PlayTV is actually sold at select online retailers here in Denmark and can be used with like 4 tv stations here. =)

YAY!
I'll probably never use it though, but still...
I never knew Canada didn't already have this feature. How crappy :/

Lucky bastards. AFAIK it's not available at all here in Norway (inb4 'lol fjeldaber' etc. :p ), Sony pretty much just said 'lol u cant have it, sux 2 b u lololol' and let one rip in our faces :(

It doesn't say that it will be released for the rest of Europe by 2010.

It says that OTHER markets will follow in 2010.

I think there is a high risk that Sweden and other Scandinavian countries, that are under the iron fist rule of Nordisk Film, is excluded from this service... :(

Taking bets on rental prices. My bet is 5 euros or 5.50. Which would be in keeping with other DD, being higher than equivalent physical prices.

I think he's wondering if it'll include Ireland.

I doubt it since Ireland has it's own PSN store and is a different currency.
But Ireland obviously isn't in the UK so how is it a 'shady description'?

Sometimes when companies say 'the UK' in contexts like this, that also includes Ireland. Ireland gets treated the same. For example we have the same release dates as the UK etc.

So he was wondering if Sony was using that 'shady' description of the UK that included the Republic. Hoping that was in fact the case, I guess :p

In many cases Ireland does fall under the same treatment as the UK, but with digital distribution it's all seperate. Which is a bad thing for stuff like this :(

I may consider renting Transformers since I never saw it in the cinema, but enjoyed the first one (never watched the cartoon though so that didn't affect my perception of the film before).

I'm glad I'm in Sweden, so that I won't have the opportunity to use this nice service. Sony doesn't want my money, so I guess I'll just keep it.

Glad it finally has a date! Haven't really taken advantage of downloading HD movies to my 360 as I never have enough space but I should have more than enough on my PS3 HDD :)

I think it's Nordisk Film who doesn't want Sony to have our money.

Ireland and the UK are so close that I expect licensing issues are pretty rare. Most movies you can buy in HMV in Ireland or rent in Xtravision are exactly the same as the ones in the UK. Same distributor, same packaging, same disk, same rating (or if the rating differs, same content).

The main thing that differs is TV broadcast rights, and anything such as iPlayer that provides access to that content.

So I see no reason Ireland should pose a major issue for the service. All of the language in the menu, and the content description is identical. The content is identical. Licensing issues are minor. The biggest difference are ratings (and logos) and the price structure. Hardly insurmountable and probably trivial compared to supporting France or Germany.

Nordisk Film is the ones who will make the most money on this, they are the official Playstation distributor in Scandinavia, and they are also the ones Sony will have to deal with when they wants to put a Disney-movie on PSN, since NF probably have bought the distribution-rights in our nations. :-/
Not sure how much of their portofolio currently include online distribution rights, but it will probably be pretty much. :-/
NF will make alot of money on getting this set up quickly, I expect it's basic paperwork wich delay this. :-/

Yay. I can actually see myself using the movie rental service, and the price can't be any worse than the 3.50 it costs on Sky.

The usual stereotypical choice of countries. Yawn.

Not that there is anything interesting in the 'host of fantastic films'.

Not interested in remixed star trek, transformers or terminator 4? :O

Weren't the "other" European countries supposed to be getting Vidzone by the end of 2009?
There's absolutely no mention of that lately. I'm not keeping my hopes up, we are talking about SCEE after all.

Pretty sure they added some extra countries about 3 weeks ago, not seen anything about the remaining countries tho.

Edit: On the HD subject it's anyones guess, would assume it will be 720p/1080i quality rather than 1080p (they haven't honestly said for definite)

Bring on Star Trek and Terminator, but in their choice/lineup only Crank 2 interests me. At least Crank was ridiculous in a good way, haven't seen the sequel yet.
