Evolve: Expect graphical parity between PC, PS4 and XBO; 60FPS "really hard to hit"

Rejoice, people who don't have any patience for wrangling about graphical discrepancies! It appears that Turtle Rock's Evolve will look pretty much the same whether you tackle it on Xbox One, PS4 or PC.
"The nice thing about the new consoles is that they're pretty hot in terms of the polygons they can push and the processing power and that sort of stuff," the developer's Phil Robb told OXM at a preview event. "In fact, they're more powerful than the PC that I have at my desk, which is pretty encouraging, because... well, it looks pretty good at my desk!

"For once we're in a position where PC and consoles are going have parity on how good they look, so that's pretty good," he continued. "I don't know if I can say if there's anything specific about Xbox One versus PS4 that is really going to stand out - they're both good consoles and we expect the game's going to be awesome on both of them."

So will Evolve meet the much-sung "next gen" performance benchmark of 60 frames a second in 1080p? "We're still working on it. 60 frames per second - that's really hard to hit, right? We're going to do our best but... I think we're still very early in the process.

What's so hard about it? Turn down eye candy to improve how your game plays. Seems like a good trade-off to me.

Cryengine right? Interesting. And I guess the parity thing means they won't be using the super special stuff that Cryisis 3 was using(assuming that PS4/XB1 can't handle it).

Oh, parity. Well, guess I could wait for a price cut, then.

edit: Actually, thinking about it a bit more... fuck it, I'm not going to support parity with any of my dollars.

I don't think CryEngine has the kind of performance envelop that's conducive to 60 fps if you really want to crank out what the engine is known for.

Parity is awful unless you only have an Xbox and you're just that insecure.

MalDo who made that fantastic hd mod for crysis 2 he all ready showed that Crysis 3 wasn't very well optimized on pc.

Parity is not a good thing. Make use of the hardware afforded to the game, and give your customers the proper value for money they deserve.

There's a good amount of disparity between PS4 and XB1, and even more between PS4 and high end PCs. Why d developers keep acting like they're about the same? I understand that they may not be able to talk about certain discrepancies, but don't lie. Just say you can't talk about specific differences at this time.

Baaaaaarf at this parity bullshit.

PC should look and run better than PS4 and Xbone, PS4 should look and run better than Xbone.

The math isnt that hard believe it or not, man these devs boil my piss.

Sounds like very carefully crafted diplomatic speak to me. "Pretty much" "I don't know if I can say if there's anything specific...going to stand out" etc.

Edit: Especially since he was being interviewed by OXM. Hahaha

That'll all change once most publishers/developers starts properly developing games for both PS4 & Xbox One after getting away from cross-gen development. The differences are going to get even wider than usual between the two consoles graphically.

Heh, as far as I know plenty of developers have said that the PS4/X1 versions were going to be "virtually the same". Yet the differences were very obvious in the end.

It's just the most politically correct answer they can give.

parity is only something I believe when I see it. many devs have come out *saying* their versions are all the same, but they very rarely end up being that way. It's just what they say instead of openly admitting that one or more of the versions will be shit.

eye candy sells games though

Pressure to stand out visually in 30 fps media (e.g. ads, gameplay videos) and screenshots.

Yeah but he makes it sound like it's hard to hit 60FPS in general. I guess what he really meant is that it's hard to hit 60FPS with the graphical fidelity they have chosen to go forward with. Still I kind of think multiplayer FPS's benefit greatly from 60FPS and it's too bad to see developers that don't agree with this.

It's an interview with OXM. He's not going to say 'Hey! PC/PS4 will be great, you're all getting a not-quite-as-good effort Xboners! But it'll still be good, honest!'

I'm not a PC elisist, love my consoles and handhelds, but even suggesting parity between the three without purposefully disabling post-processing or other effects is complete horseshit. Even on a GPU level, there are gaps, clear gaps between each of these platforms (X1's 7770m, PS4's 7870m and a 680/ 780GTX, let's say).

I hate it when devs spout this platform agnostic, kumbayah crap. Its dishonest and insulting to anyone who is even a slight enthusiast.

A lot of devs are evidently pretty liberal with their use of "parity" when it excludes something as major as frame rate.

Wait, so what are they planning to do to my PC to make my 60 FPS 1440p with better AA experience as bad as a consoles?

I'm worried!

Since this is an interview for OXM, it makes sense why they said this.

Between the 3, X1 is the weakest and this makes it sound like they are all close.

Another delightful piece of puffery guaranteed to offend no one! I am surprised about the 60fps quip, though... I mean, this is a fast-paced MP shooter; are you not going to incrementally pare back the various graphical effects until you hit ~60fps?

This was an interview in an Xbox magazine, what did we expect him to say. They talk parity, but this will all change come release. Not much of a PC gamer now, but it is capable of so much more than consoles. Xbox one is struggling to achieve 1080p for a reason.

Well ya see, its not very good marketing to advertise that one version of your game is, or could be, inferior to another version.

When a Dev says there will be graphical parity I usually skip the game. I don't know why they would say that, people with a pc don't want to hear that and people with the strongest console don't either. What do they gain by saying this..
