EA: Titanfall is a franchise that'll "be around for a long, long time"

EA is in the business of trying to find horses it can beat money out of, so its no surprise they want to try to turn Titanfall into another Battlefield or CoD. I hope it does well enough to keep Respawn going, but poorly enough that they have to try something new instead of just dumping out Titanfall sequels though. Getting tired of sequels.

Yeah, but what makes EA think they're going to be the ones publishing Titanfall 2 and beyond?

They have a multigame contract with Respawn: http://investor.ea.com/releasedetail.cfm?ReleaseID=458085

Respawn is pleased to also announce that it has awarded Electronic Arts (NASDAQ:ERTS), through the distinguished EA Partners program, exclusive worldwide publishing and distribution rights to future games. Terms were not disclosed. West and Zampella are represented by Creative Artists Agency (CAA).

I wouldn't want an industry without sequels.

Because IP ownership. EA was one of the two who was okay with Respawn keeping ownership of their IP.

That's horseshit. Respawn could have gotten by with an initial PC release, then used their clout to secure a better deal for console publishing. I find it hard to believe that publishers would have the balls to ask the guys who spawned arguably the most profitable series ever for their IP rights up front.

I hope they aren't beholden to EA for more than one or two games.

Send EA a message that we won't put up with their publishing and support of shit games like Simcity and Battlefield.

I personally expect a product to work when I buy it.

Or don't. Buy it. And get what's coming to you. Another half baked non working game.

You should start a twitter campaign.

I image how Respawn must love to hear their publisher saying that their game is less complex, supports only 12 players, etc.. Lol.

Getting tired of sequels.
If the gameplay formula is solid then those sequels will hopefully refine and expand upon them. I don't see how that's a bad thing.

New series are great, but they could all use some refinement.

So at least for me sequels are great, provided the devs are provided enough time and space to make major improvements to the game.

Neither is TitanFall.

What is so hard about understanding this for people?

Gamers that only game on consoles tend to have a certain kind of tunnel vision, I've found. The idea of having a PC to game on kinda escapes their purview.

EA seems poised to dominate this gen.

CoD, Destiny, Skylanders

vs.

Titanfall, Battlefield, Star Wars Battlefront

they might, but Destiny looks like the coolest one of all. We'll see.

They want it to be around a long time yet the exclude it from coming out on the top selling next gen console. Smart move EA.

Great. I look forward to playing its future installments once it becomes multi-platform.

This picture of EA's headquarters encapsulates why the first installment of Titanfall will be a Xbox/PC exclusive.

Dead Space 3
Sim City
PvZ 2
NBA
Battlefield 4
Dungeon Keeper

EA is 0/6 in the last year. Will Titanfall buck that trend, or will the suits at EA find a way to screw it up?

And yet it seems they're doing the best they can to limit the long term prospects for the series, by releasing the first game on only one set of consoles and eschewing a single player campaign or any kind of offline mode (as far as I know).

Maybe these were the right choices to make, time will tell, but I find it a bit puzzling.

Here is our chance everyone. DON'T BUY THIS GAME. Send EA a message! I predict this game will have issues as bad as Battlefield 4. Don't preorder, don't purchase.
Well that was random.

I'm sure there's a contract loophole somewhere that allows EA to continue to release Titanfall games and take Microsoft moneyhats with or without Respawn's involvement. You guys are in denial if you believe otherwise.

The assurances of Vince and company fly counter to everything we've seen out of EA thus far. They got screwed again.

UGH. So never STEAM for this series. Fantastic.

I'm honestly shocked that there was never a billion page thread on that news. I really still assumed it was just a single game publishing deal.

Multigame can be anywhere from 2 games to "we're screwed". I don't think the Respawn guys would give away the farm like that. What will be interesting is to see if they switch engines for the second game.

Probably true. With that being said, I'm not really concerned.

If there's one thing we can expect out of Activision, it's that they will probably do everything in their power to cut Titanfall's momentum asap by ripping off Titanfall.

When that happens, I can't see EA accepting MS's moneyhat any longer, because the risk of Titanfall's momentum being cut dry by CoD copying it and bombarding it across all platforms is too big a risk.

Besides, the first-game being exclusive is normally strong enough to draw in the initial core crowd. Mass Effect sales on PS3 subsequently apparently didn't do too well, because of the unavailability of the first-game in the franchise.

Just like the reboot of Medal of Honor ? Just run it to the ground EA...

They only did 2 MOH games plus i feel they made a mistake going from WW2 to modern day, we have enough modern day shooters as it is and MOH staying in WW2 may of actually helped it imo.

I have a lot of thoughts about this game. First of all, I'm still surprised Respawn was willing to go with EA as publisher, considering how much they seemingly hated Activision. I doubt EA is much better to work with, and even though Respawn supposedly owns the IP, EA can still apparently call a lot of the shots (such as not going to Sony).

Also, with EA's recent track record, I'm with other people and am hesitant to even try this game simply because it has EA on the box. I feel like EA is burning a lot of goodwill with people that pay attention to what's going on with video games, but at the same time, I doubt that very often translates to significantly fewer sales. I wish it did, though, because I don't know of a publisher that has less respect for their consumers than EA.

Finally, I'm just generally sick of shooters. I know these guys have made some good shooters in the past, but I never thought much of the CoD games while they were making them. The setting is certainly different, and there are new features, but I'm interested in whether this will feel significantly different from CoD 4 or Modern Warfare 2.

Ehh... CoD will always sell loads, even if its declining, and Destiny will likely mop the floor with Titanfall. And I highly, highly doubt Star Wars will make them more than the billion dollars that Skylanders has made. (probly a lot more now)

Man I really hate annual franchises. Gonna buy Titanfall regardless but you are going to have blow me away if you expect to drop $60 next year....

Don't buy this game because you predict it will have issues...that you have no evidence of. Ok.

Hopefully Titanfall as a franchise means we'll get some single player campaign/co-op down the road. I would love to play this as a co-op game with friends.

Can they co-exist tho, I mean we'll have Battlefield to choose from, COD, Halo, Destiny, Titanfall......I mean on the 360 it was pretty much Halo or COD, But next gen is giving more of the same really. Time will tell I suppose.

EA said:
“As you can imagine, this will be a franchise that’s around for a long, long time. I think people will be very excited.”

Do you think they believe this for real? Or is it just random PR?

Why would we be excited of having sequel after sequel, until the franchise is brought to its knees, instead than many brand new IPs?

awe, someone thinks Titanfall is exclusive.

Read what i was replying to, it was a joke about why that user was talking about Boycotting this paticular EA game. Besides i'm manly a console game and by saying it was exclusive i meant it wasn't on Sony consoles, i know its on 360 and PC.

CoD. Sequels after sequels. Gangbusta sales after gangbusta sales.

Market has proven that they want more of the same, if they enjoyed the first.
