PS4 sales have surpassed 5.3 million units according to Sony (As of Feb 8)

The sales trajectory is ridiculous compared to Wii U.

Ironically out of the 3 companies in this gambit, Sony is the worst off on the whole. They literally just sold or spun off some divisions to better their situation and still they produce a more compelling console for the masses

Massive figures. I wasn't going to jump right in to either MS's or Sony's offerings but Sony really turned me round with quality announcement after quality announcement. Talk about learning from your mistakes.

Again, shipped units vs sold through units.

Sony is going through stock so quickly that the two are almost synonymous.

Shipped vs. sold would be relevant if PS4s were sitting on shelves for long periods of time, like Xbox One.

4.2 million.

Expected March LTDs from these numbers:

Wii U: 6.2m
PS4: 7.0m
Xbox One: 4.2m

Very impressive altogether.

Microsoft said that the xbox had sold 3.9 million(3 million sold through) in January right?.. The gap is becoming wider and wider.

I remember i said on Reddit that sales would be fairly close until 2014. Due to Sony's stock issues and MS having the XB1 highly available during Black friday and Chrsitmas. Then Sony would start widening the gap.. I got downvoted in to oblivion by angry xbox fans(i guess).

Yeah, should have been obvious that the PS4 was going to do better in worldwide sales. Way more of a popular brand worldwide than Xbox + both came out at the same time.

Edit: Well, not Xbox in many territories... wouldn't have mattered much though.

This could be a gen similar to PS1/N64/Saturn, where Xbox One takes the position of N64 and does decent in America and sorta flops in the rest of the world.

Or it could be a generation similar to PS2/GC/Xbox, but i do believe Xbox One will do better than both OG Xbox and GC.

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.
Hardly. The Xbox One is doing fantastic sales wise and has yet the launch in several key territories.

You are delusional if you think MS isn't taking this news hard.

And why have we not heard of launch dates for these key territories?

Don't think stressed exactly covers it. There would be a few more PS4's sold if they were in unlimited supply.

inFamous is going to sell crazy...
Yeah, MS is going to have to act fast before the PS4 gets too far ahead.

Hardly. The Xbox One is doing fantastic sales wise and has yet the launch in several key territories.
Is this sarcasm?

To be fair, their console is only available in 13 countries (a big blunder on their behalf, but still).

MS launched in their strongest territories and is under performing pretty bad.

There, I clarified:

Wii U sales "shipped to retailers, a lot of stock sitting on shelves":

1 month: December 31st, 2012: 3.06 million
4 months: March 31st, 2013: 3.45 million
7 months: June 30th, 2013: 3.61 million

PS4 sales "shipped to retailers, all of the stock sells through super-fast so it's essentially sell-through numbers":

1 day: November 16th, 2013: 1 million
2 weeks: December 1st, 2013: 2.1 million
1 month: December 28th, 2013: 4.2 million

Edit: There we go

I was always under the impression those were the countries they wanted to gain momentum in? Considering that some stores are trying to clear stock I don't think their only problem is not releasing anywhere and everywhere.

Holy crap, congrats Sony!

And it's not even out in Japan yet. Wonder how much that'll push numbers between now and E3.

Incredible. The momentum that the PS4 is on right now is really quite something.

I'm thinking Sony 60%, MS 35%, and Nintendo 5%.

The Japanese launch may cause shortages in Europe, yet again.
Have they been resolved?

1,1M in more than a month worldwide means that the shortages are still in effect and that most of new consoles are sent to Japanese stores for launch. This isn't a big number when you look at where it's selling right now.

There, I clarified:

At least according to Sony this is sold to consumers as tracked by themselves third-parties (where available) (they mention NPD but not for this figure). I mean essentially its shipped = sold but the difference is noteworthy here.

Nintendo had an awesome first month, but why did sales halt that much in 2013? Complete night and day compared to PS4.

Congrats Sony!

Still have Infamous coming up pretty soon, which should sell quite well. Really enjoying my Ps4, worth the Day 1 purchase.

Sony doesn't have exact sell-through numbers.

They're using a variety of metrics like NPD / GfK numbers, the amount of PS4s signed up for PSN, conversations with major retailers, and shipped numbers to come up with that number.

They're also assuming that stock is selling out so fast that shipped is essentially sell-through...which is correct.
