What a bomb. 35k first week and barely any effect on WiiU sales. And it's over 3 months until next major release. This thing has cratered completely.

What does this even mean?

Most mainstream Nintendo characters are already in Smash. A simple graphic update and some engine tweaks hardly would become an explosive seller or make people pick up the Wii U for it. The game needs new features, modes and such, and yet that doesn't seem to be the focus at all this time, which is going to be a big mistake, IMO.

Don't forget that there's the 3ds version too. If the game really doesn't add actual new features and modes, most people likely will just pick up the 3ds game, rather than buying a console for it. And, even so, I doubt the sales will approach previous entries.

Better cancel this threads until Mario kart 8 release... because the wiiu sales numbers that "may" be coming :,(

Wow... I mean I wasn't expecting DK to save the Wii U but those numbers are terrible... I wonder how low the Wii U will go over the next couple months with nothing of note (retail wise) releasing until MK.

Because content has always been a problem for Smash.

DK selling like Metroid Prime in japan. it's the end.

an actual Metroid would sell like W101 going by this situation.

While we are at it, what is Magi?

I don't see Smash Bros doing anything anymore if it's just a lazy update like what has been marketed up to now. It'll be just another big drop.

It's insane that the game with the least amount of relevant mainstream characters to be introduced seems to be entirely focusing on the fighting engine and character reveals, with no focus on the game's content at all so far. But, I guess it's business as usual for current Nintendo, which seems to be in their own little world.

Missed chance to use the word rehash.

most of the game details are still under wraps

Donkey Kong...oh wow. So sad that the WiiU is proving toxic to such great franchises; the port of DKCR sold ~100k first week.

It's funny, last year people were saying wait for the software to come, yet with every major release the Wii U is looking MORE dead.

That's exactly the problem I see here. 64 to Melee was a big jump. Melee to Brawl was another big jump. And yet this time they don't seem to be focusing on that at all. It's a change of focus that will likely just kill the Wii U version. The 3ds version should do fine, since it doesn't need to be a system seller, but I don't think it'll do as well as previous entries either if all the promotion for the game so far hasn't been misleading.

So what's between DK and May 29, just the retail release of NES Remix and Sonic Transformed? And then another 1-2 month gap until Zelda musou...

Yikes.

Did you not catch my sarcasm? Content has never been a problem with Smash, in fact, one of the problems people had with Brawl was that the Dojo basically revealed everything in the game, there weren't that many surprises left when the actual game launched.

God forbid they actually want to show changes to the engine that came under scrutiny with Brawl...

After the poor sales of DK on Wii U I think we can say conclusively that Nintendo franchises benefited from strong hardware sales on Wii rather than those franchises driving strong hardware sales as has been put about by people around these parts.

Pie and Beans

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
Yeah, thats more Nintendo software hamstrung and not making money due to that consoles floppage. How many more projects are they realistically going to okay on WiiU over 3DS or their next portable? Thats also it for WiiU now until May 29. 3 months of total crash.

Vita rise with nothing seems to indicate 18k is its baseline for now. Whats the next big 3DS thing? Thats some troubling dropping.

ah well hope it has legs wii party u only sold 37k in its first week and it went on to sell over 600k in japan.

That's because it was bundled with every Wii U and was released alongside 3D World during the holiday season. Not the same situation at all.

How come there's no famitsu numbers on the op?

Edit: nvm

But god damn at DK, Nintendo needs to figure out how to salvage and reuse all off wii u's failed software releases
