PopCap dodges whether PvZ: Garden Warfare is 1080p on Xbox One (update: it's 900p)

We also quizzed Lindley about Garden Warfare's native resolution and he gave a coy response. "The Xbox One outputs in 1080p," he said. "I will say we're not running at the same resolution as [Battlefield 4]." Battlefield 4 runs in 720p on Xbox One. It was previously confirmed that Garden Warfare on Xbox One runs at 60fps, though.

We've reached out to PopCap for further clarification about Garden Warfare's resolution and received this roundabout response: "On next-gen consoles, players can experience all EA games at 1080p. Some are rendered natively, others are up-scaled by the next-gen hardware systems. Either way, the visuals are stunning and the gameplay is impeccable, regardless of platform."

Edit: Confirmed 900p then

It's already been confirmed to be 900p in a roundtable interview today.

Why do they even bother saying this? Surely the only people that care already know it's horseshit.

Can't imagine that it wouldn't be 1080p native. I can understand why he would dodge this kind of question regardless, though. It will just validate such questions with more graphically demanding games in the future.

Christ, so "upscaled to 1080p" is going to be a thing all gen isn't it? Like that statement actually means something, very irritating.

I see plenty of people playing this game on xbone; bit late to be cagey. Surprised nobody has counted the pixels yet

Someone show me an image that showcases the difference between 720p and 1080p. I only have a 720p TV and I play games just fine

You can't really miss what your TV can't display. You'll just benefit from free downsampling of games over 720p. If I get an X1 I'm using my 1360x768 set, hopefully 900p will be the baseline down the road.

Is it strange that I see this as good progress? CoD:G and BF4 were 720p. This game and possibly Titanfall could end up being 900p.

It's not just more pixels for pixels' sake, it's about the native resolution (meaning no interpolation/scaling on fixed-pixel displays) for the vast majority of hdtvs out there, which is 1080p.

This probably isn't accurate, but since no one is really giving you an image, I thought I'd help out homie

He's just asking for an image.

its like debating a creationist. The images will be posted, they will be ignored for the belief that high resolution gaming truly doesn't matter, in 2014, with 500 dollar consoles, where higher resolutions are found on a cheaper device(s).

I do enjoy watching the cycle though, can someone start this off? Thanks.

The updated upscaler will do its magic and most xbone buyers wont be able to tell difference in motion; 500 reasons not to pixel peep.

Plus it's looking to be a good game.

Titanfall resolution 792p i believe.

It is strange you see this as good progress considering it looks like a game that last generation of consoles should be outputting in native 1080p.

Very strange.

1080p is simply 2.25x the pixels of 720p. Seeing the difference would require you to view the original 1080p image on a 1080p TV and then have a look at the 720p image on the 1080p screen.

I compare it to watching a DVD vs. Blu-Ray. More on screen pixels to see the smallest details the artists wanted you to see.

Of course, games can be built from the ground up for certain resolutions to draw everything the want to be seen on a 1600x900 picture or whatever.

I gamed on a 900p monitor for the longest time and recently got a 1080p monitor. Difference was major to my eyes. Hey I have friends who swear up and down that Blu ray looks exactly like a DVD even though I can tell the difference within a millisecond of looking at the screen.

If these people think that upscaling to 1080p is the same as rendering natively in 1080p, try upscaling a native resolution of 1x1 to 1080p and let me know how that works out for you.

Man, never post a 1080p comparison next to 4k.. it looks utter craplol. Ignorance is bliss until 4k is affordable is the motto.
