I think overall my favorite Halo 4 map might be Monolith. While there's some stuff I might change I like its open spaces combined with cover-filled side passages to drop down on people.

Haven is the best Halo 4 map for sure.

Haven is the best Halo 4 map, although I think Landfall is probably the best Halo 4 DLC map and is right up there with Haven. The atmosphere, the tone and environment just really gives out a beautiful Halo 2 vibe, which is pretty nostalgic. It's overall fun to play on as well, for me anyway.

Does it really bother people that some have a lot of posts? I like to think Halo communities consist of fans that tend to stay close with one another, so it's never surprising or off-putting to me how much we get off topic around here. Who cares Stormtrooper has so many posts, what harm does it do?

We're all Halo fans enjoying each other's company. Isn't that the point of these threads: to foster an interesting community that extends beyond the game itself?

People baffle me.

I thought the point to HaloGAF was to talk about how shitty Halo 4 is and talk about literally every other fps on xbox besides Halo...
Im sorry i haven't posted any hate lately.

You don't need to play it anymore Tash, you got the job!
God knows that they dont play their own abomination.

Don't know if this has been posted, but today is Ragnarök, the Viking apocalypse and coincidentally, the most over-played BTB map in Halo 3/4.
Yep

Monolith is a good map too.

Maps that are decent -> good:
  • Haven
  • Exile
  • Ragnarok (Remake)
  • Harvest (DLC: art style has that Halo vibe with a cool setting (classic Halo boxed in canyon, toybox, open space, etc.) and colors (ie: Distinguishable RvB bases))
  • Shatter (DLC)
  • Landfall (DLC)
  • Monolith (DLC)
  • Skyline (DLC)
  • Daybreak (DLC: "functionally symmetrical" thing aside, it's a fun map)
  • Perdition (DLC)
  • Pitfall (DLC - Remake)
Fluff:
  • Abandon
  • Adrift
  • Complex
  • Longbow
  • Meltdown
  • Solace
  • Vortex
  • Wreckage (DLC)
  • Outcast (DLC)
  • Vertigo (DLC)
In no particular order.

All my friends are dead :(

It seems that they were... left behind.. (Badum chsssh)

Yeah, Dominion is a shitty gametype so you didn't miss anything. It makes me sad we got Dominion instead of superior Invasion :(

I was just about to type that. I agree so much. I dislike Dominion, but I loved Reach invasion. It was a good mix between objectives and big team. It was one of the gametypes that I loved playing with my good friends.

Maps that are decent -> good:

IMO Longbow is way better than Exile, which is pretty bad though way better than Vortex.
Not sure about Meltdown, it feels like it could be decent if Fuel Rods were removed and the Mantises were replaced with normal Warthogs or Ghosts.

Playing ODST on Legendary, and i wonder... is this on easy mode or what. Way too easy...
Can we have actually challenging Legendary for Halo 5, seeing as no Halo has been that hard on Legendary since Halo 2 (Reach is partially difficult, due to various shitty issues, making it as cheap as Halo 2 but not really difficult otherwise).

A year or two ago when i had a posting streak, people complained about it to me (and noted that was what got Zoojoo banned, when it actually was stupid posts, not posting a lot). Seen complaints about posting a lot before too. People here sure seem to have an issue with posting a lot. Don't understand why.
EDIT i could have been posting off-topic... can't recall. Usually i try to avoid overt off-topic. Ah, well, whatever. Some people still have a problem with posting a lot here.

Evidently. One of those things i do not understand then, i guess.
I joined NeoGAF because it was generally better discussion than bungie.net and there was an organized community that got together and tried to make the best of a sub-par Halo game. A lot of that discussion stems from the quality of posts being made, not so much the quantity of posts. This is a quote from Ram when zoo joo posted a lot of little substance: 'Let's just say I've never read a post from you and thought "good point".' There's a lot of posters now where that applies to them. A lot of people want good discussion, not necessarily lots of discussion.

Yet Karl remains...
That would be Karl.
Hey! I might be an idiot, but at least I'm not an idiot! ...wait a minute

Well that was a disappointing two pages to read.

Guess I'd say that's a fairly relative perspective, I've flicked through a few old threads and it brings smiles to my face.

Yeah. I went back to Reach OT6, and went through the first 30 pages or so. This was back when Fyre posted a lot of nonsense, Stephen talked about betraying yoinkers, and Tawpgun bought a TV because "The box has a blonde chick and a black guy enthusiastically playing a PS3 so I hope so."

Gears of War armor in Halo 5 picture

That would actually be pretty darn cool. Do some type of reverse as well, allowing a Carmine-esque variant with an MC inspired helmet in Gears 4 and I'd be happy.

Make them achievement tied or something so that if your X1 recognizes you played both games you unlock it in both or something and it would be pretty cool.

Ah so there's someone like me! I too think that ODST is probably one of the easiest Halo campaigns, but certain sections (like staying on the bridge in ONI, and the Coastal Highway) can be murderous.

I think the problem with Halo difficulty is there's a fine line between difficult and cheap. CE felt difficult in spots but due to your superior firepower wasn't incredibly challenging. Halo 2 and Reach felt cheap to me (always dodging Covenant and instakill Elite kicks in the latter, especially.)

While people are right to complain about ammo in 4, I lump it in the same category as 3 in terms of overall difficulty.

As for maps I think a pitfall of every Halo game has been that the best maps are usually DLC.

Halo 4 and Halo ODST are the easiest Halos on Legendary, they're ridiculously easy IMO (Halo 4 especially, it is easier than ODST).
Halo 3 and CE are decent on Legendary, with no cheapness... but also a tad easy to my tastes.
Halo 2 is challenging but unfortunately it has a bit too much cheapness too.
Reach is just cheap.

Halo Wars.. eh, i can't remember. I need to play that (again?). On co-op too, don't have any of those achievements. Anyone interested? Not today though.

I want to play with you guys sometime, but uh, i am a scrub, does that matter to anyone? I mean my highest k/d is in reach (lol) and i think in 4 it is like 1.2-1.3 (el oh el but i try) 3 was horrible no one look at that

If you are in the positive range for your K/D ratio in Halo 4, that would probably put you better than like 75% of the active players out there. Whenever I play BTB, there is always like two or three players that go something like 2/18 or 5/17. It seems like whenever I look at Halo 4 K/D ratios for other players, the vast majority of them are in the negative territory.

As for Halo 4 maps, my favorite is Complex, with honorable mentions going to Exile, Haven and Wrekage. I used to enjoy Haven more, but it's starting to get boring. Haven is good for Halo 4, but it would be a filler map in Halo 1-3, imo.

We're just mere weeks away from my third annual HaloGaf March Madness Tournament Challenge Extravaganza! We've had two great years in a row with me winning two years ago and vhfive winning last year.

The prize has been upped a little this year but won't be revealed until a little closer to tourney season (but you can guarantee it's a good prize).

Entry is free but I want to go ahead and gauge participation because I may add or subtract the total from the prize based on the number participating. PM or quote/reply to this if you're interested (and sorry, US only due to shipping costs, etc).

Haven in Halo 3 would be better than 95% of them, which isn't saying much since it's not that great.

Also those other three maps you listed are awful.

Hi guys.

HaloGAF threads have been problematic for a while now. The community has become insular and hostile to new members and contrary opinions, spends as much time off topic as on, and has been one of the more problematic communities we've had to monitor for a while now. The moderation team has been patient in trying to combat these problems. We had a thread hiatus a while back, split threads, overt intervention and warnings and several rounds of bans to enforce basic civility, but yesterday's saga demonstrated the message is not getting through. Exacerbating the situation is, as Ampoc put it:

I think the lack of Halo news is eating everybody apart.

This is probably what is behind much of the problem. There's nothing to really talk about now, so the threads increasingly result in members turning on one another for sport. Not everyone, of course. But enough to impact the threads as a whole.

To help, we're doing you guys a favor. HaloGAF, as a community, is on pause for a while. Specifically, until after E3 of this year when you folks will have something to talk about. This may seem like punishment - and it kinda is - but it's really a favor. If this trend were to keep up few HaloGAF members would be left come E3 when Halo For Xbox One news will surely arrive.

The next HaloGAF thread may be posted one week after the Microsoft E3 press conference. For example, if it's on a Wednesday, post the HaloGAF thread the following Wednesday.

I suggest you take this as an opportunity to mingle on the gaming side. It will be good for you to realize that HaloGAF exists on GAF and is part of a larger community, and thinking of the HaloGAF community apart from GAF as a whole is not healthy or acceptable. It will be good for folks to step out of this bubble for a bit, and I hope that in doing so HaloGAF is a more welcoming community when it returns in a few months.
