Media Create Sales: Week 8, 2014 (Feb 17 - Feb 23)

Incoming "but digital" posts.
Are we looking at the same charts? PS4 had a pretty average start at best, and 3DS continues to do well despite zero big releases and also despite the PS4 hype.

Sony likely sees the PS4 hardware and software sales as a sign they won't be able to turn the tide of console irrelevance in Japan.
Average start? 3DS doing well? It is a pretty good launch nearly selling out all the stock. The 3DS number is the lowest since the price cut, that's not doing well at all.

The 3DS sales got hit. Wii U and Vita seems quite stable. Seems the niche systems don't get hit or in case of Vita, increase. I might be grasping at some straws here but are we seeing another likely cause for the 3DS to not reach last year's sales?
3DS needs more content, simple as that. Nintendo could release the 2DS, but that can only do so much without major releases to drive sales.

Seems like the fan base is willing to migrate over then just for the game.

Maybe the PS4 version will have longer legs too.

Something think about - Sony/Atlus/Namco and other 3rd parties.

We'd like to know Yakuza Kenzan's LTD, not Ishin. ;)

So, according to Media Create, Wii U first week 308.142 with 8 games (2 games above 100k) games. And PS4 309.154 with 10 games (0 games above 100k). Waiting for the Xbox One numbers.

06./05. [3DS] Yo-kai Watch <RPG> (Level 5) {2013.07.11} (¥4.800) - 35.125 / 458.961 (+58%)

OMG!

HOLY SHIT! Ishin sales are horrible! The franchise has fallen, sure it's not a sequel entry but expected much better than that.

o_O

According to the irrefutable userbase argument, Yakuza PS4 is a beast, Yakuza PS3 is failure.

Yakuza bomba across both platforms? D:

Not really.

01./00. [PS3] Yakuza 3: Kenzan! (Sega) - 181,189 / NEW {2008.03.06}

02./00. [PS3] Yakuza: Ishin! <ADV> (Sega) {2014.02.22} (¥8.600) - 138.158 / NEW
03./00. [PS4] Yakuza: Ishin! <ADV> (Sega) {2014.02.22} (¥8.600) - 82.540 / NEW
= 220.698

Spin off Yakuza's tend to sell less than mainline games.

Edit. Beaten so hard

PS4 didn't sell out, though, and the software sales are atrocious.

3DS is in decline because the big releases have dried up, but considering that, it's still holding on well, though Nintendo needs to get third parties more on-board so they can really start pumping out new content.

In all seriousness, I wonder if there are people so uninformed that they'd buy a console at launch, not knowing Knack came with it, and also bought a copy of Knack on top of their PS4. From what I've seen I wouldn't dismiss the probability. The stupidness of some consumers can never overstated

PS4 did only slightly better than Wii U at launch, and its software sales are terrible. Can't say I'm not concerned...

Wouldn't be surprised if there is a noticeable drop next week. However, I think the real litmus test is when FF, RE, MGS and any major manga/anime tied-in games are out.

Some people might not have realized they had knack bundled and bought a retail copy?

I think it's probably a very small group of people that want to own a retail copy of the game.

Oh right. *panic mode off*

Hope they budgeted accordingly across both platforms.

Maybe they got dime of Sony for the PS4 version too.

LTD is 270k + 113k for the discounted rereleases. But first week was 178k, about 40k less than Ishin.

EDIT: Numbers are from Road's JapanLtdRank site.

Hmm okay-sh for a spin-off IMO.
Wondering how much it did digital (not much I'm expecting).

Feel sorry for those people who didn't realize it was bundled, LOL.

There wouldn't (or shouldn't?) be any Knack copies on retail shelves. Either its a tracking inaccuracy (notice how Media Create and Famitsu vary) or maybe there's a couple of specialty outlets that had import copies.

Either that or is the Knack bundle a limited release? Maybe a handful of people just didn't know better.

OK? That doesn't make its launch number not good. Its software sales are bad, but I wasn't talking about that.

Then they should get some releases there. It's Nintendo's to maintain good 3DS sales. You can't just give reasons for the 3DS selling poorly and think that is acceptable.
What were the shipment numbers for PS4? Do we know that?

The YTD figures for Vita and 3DS are so wildly different from last year. One has nearly halved, the other more than doubled.

Hare, meet Tortoise. Now I just need them both on the market for another 30 years or so for the LTD streams to cross.

Was kind of thinking Vita might have gotten a remote play bump. I guess staying level is better than a drop.
If it was going to, I wouldn't expect to see it yet. Wallets aren't bottomless.
