Bought Toukiden, finish it in one week. It's very solid hunting action taht very similar to MH, yet managed to differentiate itself. So many stuff to do for a first generation hunting action game. If anyone own a Vita and like MH, they should try this out.

Bought Trine 2 in last week deal from GOG. Also grab Dungeon Keeper but I don't count it toward backlog since it's old and free.

Still need to finish Nier soon.

Today morning I've beaten Contrast on PS4. I got it free from PS+ so I don't count it. IMO average game with interesting shadow elements.

Bought in 2014: 1
1. Splinter Cell: Blacklist (PS3)

Beat in 2014: 2
1. Call of Juarez: Gunslinger (X360)
2. Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch (PS3)
3. Contrast (PS4) - free Plus

Current Score: +1

Currently Playing:
Killzone: Shadowfall - multi (PS4)
Splinter Cell: Blacklist(PS3)

Virtue's Last Reward is beat. I'm still sorting out my feelings on it. As I beat it last night I did not like the ending at all, but kept thinking about it last night when I went to bed and was the first thing I thought of when I woke up. It was good but I think it fell into the trap that all sequels do where everything has to be bigger and crazier. Also 999 trained me on how to think so almost all of the mystery explanations crossed my mind early on. Still, it was good and my paranoia of getting hit with the save corrupting glitch did not happen.

Ha! I beat VLR and now my score is ZERO

Beat (+4):
1. The Last of Us - 1/2
2. Fire Emblem: Awakening - 1/31
3. Resident Evil: Revelations (360) - 2/7
4 Virtue's Last Reward (3DS) - 2/22

Bought (-4):
1. Resident Evil: Revelations (360) - 1/2
2. Bastion (360) - 2/17
3. Saints Row 4 (360) - 2/20
4. Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons (360) - 2/21

Removed due to not liking (does not count as +1 beat but does count as -1 to backlog):
0

Backlog is now at 4.

I might go through Bastion, Brothers, and then just read comics so that I can start South Park on day 1 when it releases. Either that or Saints Row 4 which will probably take me longer than South Park's release date, so I'll be trying to cram it in. Would rather not

Bought:

Hate+
Monaco
The Swapper
Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams
Broken Age
The Witcher
The Witcher 2
Card City Nights
Guacamelee (doesn't really count since I already bought and beat it last year, but I'll take any excuse to replay it)

Beaten:
Broken Age

Will not beat due to not liking:
The Witcher (dat combat system, loving the second game though)

Also, I'm gonna completely ignore my backlog from last year. It's rather large...

Did pretty well in February so far. Took Hotline Miami off my list as it really didn't click with me. I bought and beat ME3 this month so February was a damage-free month.

Score for 2014: 3
Games Bought: Mass Effect 3, Shadow of Colossus/Ico
Games Beaten: GR: Shadow Wars, SM3DW, Mass Effect 3, Hotline Miami, Dark Souls

I'm going to focus on getting my 360 backlog finished. Next in line is Alpha Protocol.

Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons is beat. It was good, nothing to write home about, though.

3. Resident Evil: Revelations (360) - 2/7

Keeping my plate clear until South Park, so I've got a few days off. I've been slowly reading Fables so I'll probably do more of that until then.

Finished Binding of Isaac tonight. I had bought this game years ago, and spent one night playing it, and was really disappointed by the lack of controller support, so I put it down. Patrick Klepek's new feature of the game on Giant Bomb gave me a push to give the game a second shot.

I still wish it had native controller support, since even when using a controller-to-keyboard application, it feels a little stiff and uncomfortable. That said, it's perfectly playable once you get enough time in the game to adjust,

Maybe it's just because I suck at the game, but it seems to me that the game is super-dependent on getting a good set of drops early on, or avoiding the more difficult rooms and bosses. (Fuck Gurdy - seriously. I did manage to beat her/it once, but that fight is about 90 times harder than all the other standard bosses) Sure, you learn how to overcome certain enemies more efficiently as you play more, and player skill is still a significant factor, but it seems to be more of a crapshoot than most other random-seed games I've played.

I do like the game, and I intend to keep playing it to get to the true ending or whatever, but I feel like it could have been a little better with more balanced items.

Score = 3/5

Hm, do you mean you beat mom in the depths once...? 'Cause yeah, there's massively more content than that in the game. :) I got 86 hours on it and I'm not close to having done everything. Though for now I'm waiting for the remake to come out before starting up on it again.

Yes. Thread rules are to reach the credits, so that's why I added it. I played a few more rounds since then, and realize there's a lot more stuff to go. I doubt I'll get anywhere near 86 hours though. It's already wearing thin on me after 8.

I was incredibly disappointed in Gone Home and Dear Esther. I kept hearing about how innovative and emotional they were but they did nothing for me. Gone Home was intriguing at the beginning but it became dull once I figured out where the sister's story was heading. Since I didn't understand or care about some of the 90s things you can interact with (I was a child then), I was just moving in a linear fashion until the next audio log. If the sister's story was more like the parents where you have to rummage through the house and put the clues together, I would have liked it more.

I disliked Dear Esther even more than Gone Home. All I could do was look at the pretty scenery and travel to the next audio log. I thought I would be able to explore the island and find hidden paths that would lead to parts of the story, not given it. I know the audio changes when you start a new game but there is no way I'm going to do that. I wasn't invested or intrigued by the world enough to want to move slowly through it again. Figuring out the story doesn't seem possible anyway. The narrator was clearly unreliable and the true account of what happened did not seem discoverable. The story is just however you interpret it. Though, I don't regret playing it because it had a great soundtrack.

Sure, sure. I wasn't saying that you shouldn't count it as +1, just that there's a lot more content there if you're so inclined. :)

Well, I knew this was going to happen. Thanks to a mixture of family life and classes, I'm beginning to lag behind a little. Of the games I beat this month, Hotline Miami is the best, and has one of my favorite OSTs ever now. The Pokémon Trading Card Game is okay, but the final section was surprisingly challenging, and bullshit. 7 Grand Steps and Weapon Shop are both kinda bland and dull. Hopefully I'll break into the positive range, for March at least, next month, but I kinda doubt it. The only games I'll be buying for sure are Shovel Knight and SMT I on iOS, my first iOS game in a long time.

Ok, this isn't going well. I started Tales of Xillia, and I'm most of the way through that. The good news is Xillia is the last of the pile of games I got for Christmas last year. Problem is I picked up 5 games. No plans to pick up anything other than Second Son this month, but that means nothing. Continual slide into backlog oblivion.

I beat a bunch of games, but as usual there were several nice bundles this month, pushing me into negative territory...again.

February: 7

Guacamelee! (02/05) - What an amazing game. I'm usually pretty wary of exclusives (timed or otherwise) hyped up by Playstation fans as they tend to only disappoint me but this game was outstanding. The best mix of platforming and melee fighting in a game I've ever played. The platforming challenges leading to a couple of the orbs were fantastic. My only complaint would be that there weren't enough common Spanish words in a game where it clearly would have fit. For example: Do you want to quit? Si/No.

Toki Tori (02/08) - I have no idea why it took me so long to finally beat this game. I loved what I played of it back in 2010 or so. I only had the last level to beat too! Still, very fun little puzzle game.

Shelter (02/11) - Eh. I'm generally not one for the "experience" type art game, mainly because they tend to be all art and no game. At least Shelter had some more game elements in it that most of its ilk. Still, horrid textures and poor pathing from the cubs made this a little more of a chore to play.

Mass Effect 3 (02/17) - Surprisingly enough, this game didn't murder all those I love while forcing me to watch. I made sure to play the vanilla ending to see how bad it really was (so bad, so very very bad) before loading the free DLC ending. I'm actually more upset about the forced multiplayer than the shitty ending.

Dust: An Elysian Tail (02/21) - I really shouldn't have played this so soon after Guacamelee. While the game wasn't bad, when played in such close proximity to another game which did everything so much better, it's hard not to be a little disappointed. I have a feeling I'll have to replay this in a year or so with a cleansed palate.

Stealth Bastard (02/25) - What a fantastic little puzzle platformer! I really enjoy how the game is only as hard as you want it to be. Just want to see the end? No problem. Want to S rank everything? Good luck with that!

Cubetractor (02/28) - Talk about a buzzer beater! My achievement for beating this is timestamped at 11:58 pm. I can't help but feel this game could have been so much better. It has a bunch of great ideas but dodgy controls and frustrating level design really hold it back. Oh well.

January Post (-3)

Current Score: (-6)

Games that don't count (rented games finished or purchased games previously beaten):

Gravity Rush (PS Vita) - PS Plus game so I'm not counting it on my backlog. I remember nearly hating the game around chapter 7. So glad I stuck with it. I guess I didn't end up caring much about the story or characters, but those mechanics are so much fun. I don't want to get around a game world any other way now. Can't wait for the sequel.
Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc (PS Vita) - Exactly what I hoped it would be from the brief descriptions I read before renting this. Another sequel I'm very excited for.

Bought in February 2014 (-4):

Strider (PS4)
The LEGO Movie Videogame (PS4)
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 (Steam)
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze (Wii U)

Finished in February 2014 (1):

Car Mechanic Simulator 2014 (Steam) - Yea, for some reason I slogged through all 75 work orders this game threw at me. I really don't know why.

Currently Playing:

Strider (PS4) - About 35% through. I'm liking it but can't seem to have very long sessions with it.
Final Fantasy XIV Beta (PS4) - Got to level 9. I'm very surprised how much I like it. In a couple of months I could see myself starting up on PC, maybe getting a PS4 copy as well.
Outlast (PS4) - I'm such a wuss with games like these. I made it to the crazy doctor and I'm not sure I'll go back to it.
Thief (PS4) - Finished Chapter 2. Just renting it and, while I'm enjoying it for the most part, I'm about to send it back. No time for it.
The Binding of Isaac (Steam) - Scoops inspired me to give this a try again. FAQ in hand I've almost made it to Mom a couple of times. Probably will call it done if I manage to beat her, yes even knowing there are several other bosses after her.
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 (Steam) - On the way to get my Chaos powers back. Really like the look of the game so far. No big complaints yet really.

I'm starting this year much better compared to previous years. Only bought two games. ZombiU was bought last year but just arrived last month. I haven't played the game that much since I'm really struggling playing console games right now with a tight work schedule. As a big fan of FFV, I really really love Bravely Default, awesome battle system, great music, gorgeous art and that simple FF story about Crystals, and I couldn't ask for more from this new FF-like game. I beat it yesterday though so I guess it would count as beaten on March.

Also beat FFIX last month and I really love it. Its now favorite out of the PS1 FF games. So far, the game felt like FFIV for to me with each character having a set class along with the story progression.

For now, I barely have anything to play tbh, I have ZombiU but I can barely play it at all on my free time. I'm wondering if I will still have time for Atelier Escha&Logy when it releases next week.

Hm. HM. I honestly thought I did worse in February, which is surprising considering how bad I did. I kept dropping games and then getting obsessed with Donkey Kong.

February update

Acquired this month (-9)

Shadowrun: Dragonfall (Kickstarted)
Dungeon Keeper (GOG freebie)
Antichamber (Humble Bundle)
Monaco (Humble Bundle)
Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams (Humble Bundle)
The Swapper (Humble Bundle)
Guacamelee (Humble Bundle)
Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons (PS Plus)
Mega Man Anniversary Collection (No excuse)

I also got Beatbuddy and Starseed Pilgrim from the Bundle, and Lunar Flight as a gift from a friend who had an extra key, but I'm not counting them on the backlog just yet because I'm reserving judgment as to whether they're games I'll really want to finish or not.

Completed this month (+7)

Mark of the Ninja
Thomas Was Alone
Deus Ex
Sam & Max episode 106
The Swapper
Guacamelee
Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons

February total: -2
January: +4

2014 running total: +2

Hey, still in the positive for the year. Didn't think that would be the case. Those Bundles are backlog kryptonite.

On a related note, for episodic games, should each episode count as +1? In this case, Sam & Max 106 is the end of the season so it would count either way, but just asking for future reference.

I count each episode separately. The end result will be the same though.

If you just count the season it won't be equal (as in Sam & Max Season One is counted as 1 not 6). Since each episode is like 1/5 a full game it feels a little like cheating counting that as a full game.

Unless you mean counting Season One as a -1 as opposed to a -6 until you beat it...

I haven't played the new Sam & Max games but with The Walking Dead and Tales of Monkey Island I counted the seasons as -5 (-1 for each episode) and then I got a +1 whenever I completed an episode. In the end both methods will result in a net ±0 when you complete the season.

Strikethroughs indicate games that count as ±0 for whatever reason. (Free, double-dip, not actually "beatable", etc.)

Notes
Pleased with finally 100%ing Liberation Maiden. After that I dove headfirst into hobbies that have nothing to do with video games (...and the playthrough of Brothers I was thinking about got torpedoed when our PS3 shit the bed). I'll be trying to find a better balance for March.

January Progress: 1

Games bought this month (1)
Super Swing Golf Season 2 (Wii)

Games completed this month (2)
Etrian Odyssey 3: The Drowned City (DS) (2/??) (For all of the time I was spending with my first and second party...I may still retire my first party and I'll put it back on the list if I do, but this game is really something for a dungeon crawler. I posted my thoughts earlier on this forum somewhere, but EO3 is so much fun.)
Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow (3/1) (After playing it through twice, I wasn't that impressed with it compared to some other Metroid games I've played but it was still really fun. I know I'll play it through at least one more time down the road though.)

Games removing from list (1)
Gradius 3 (PSP)

Games playing (6)
Dungeons and Dragons: Shadow over Mystara (360)
Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 2 (360)
Halo 4 (360)
Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour (GC)
Sonic 1 (PS3)
Xenoblade Chronicles (Wii)

Possible next games to start (2)
Might and Magic I
Alpha Centauri

Progress for February: 1
Total score: 2

I don't think I'm going to reach my "deal with 20 games" goal for the year. Once the new Smash Bros. game comes out and I get a Wii U around Black Friday I don't think I'm going to play anything else so with nine months to go it doesn't look good.
