With the beginning of March Sony is halting shipments of the “First Limited Pack” of the PS4 in Japan, moving from the bundle with Knack to the standard boxes without the game, and looks like almost all the units that were pushed into the market so far have now found a loving home.
Amazon Japan, Yodobashi Camera, Bic Camera, Rakuten, Edion, Sofmap and every other retailer we checked has the console out of stock, and Yodobashi Camera also shows no stock in all its 21 stores across the country (which received further shipments on February 26th and 27th), as you can see in the picture at the bottom of this post. A new shipment is expected by the 5th.
In the meanwhile Shunichi Kobayashi, director of the video game department of Akihabara-based retailer Trader mentioned to Mainichi Shinbun Digital that he doesn’t know when further shipments will come, advising customers to grab the console when they find one:
We’re not in a situation where you can buy it everywhere already, and I don’t know when it’ll be in stock. If you absolutely want it, I recommend that you buy it when you find one.

Despite all the doom and gloom we saw from some sources, looks like PS4 has definitely been selling over the past week. It’ll be interesting to see the Media Create hardware charts this Wednesday to get a clear picture on what kind of momentum the console is retaining compared to its initial sales in the archipelago of the rising sun.

But then again its Dualshockers so take it with a grain of salt

Wish they would do a SS bundle like this in the US :p

They need to push out more units to the countries that were shafted at EU launch. Seems like people are still waiting on pre-orders.

It would be nice to see the PS4 succeed, I thought things were looking a little rough over there.

I'm guessing they did a quick check online rather than go into actual stores.
The author isn't in Japan, so yes, this is what happened.

I love living in Japan and reading all the false things Dualshockers writes about what's happening in Japan. And when I say "love," I mean "hate," because I realize that I, like Dualshockers, should have chosen a career in Bullshitery and make mad monies. How that place isn't a banned website escapes me.

I mean, it wouldn't really mean that much without knowing how much they're shipping to Japanese retailers, anyway. You can "sell out" by just not replenishing stocks to any meaningful degree, but that's not really valuable. Until we get some idea of how much Sony is providing in weekly resupply, it's practically useless keeping up with whether or not they're short-stocked.

I somehow feel like a certain hump must be crossed wherein people have bought enough of these to sway people who are on the fence just so they don't miss out on the zeitgeist. Hence it being sold out passed day 1. Good job regardless, Japan!

Do you check all the stores yourself though? :)

I think we are all wary about reports of 100% sell-outs and doom and gloom alike.

They are as reliable as Albert Penello.

Not a credible source. I'd rather hear from a verified and organized market analysis company like MC what they have to say about this.

Besides if this is true, with an estimated shipment number of 370k PS4 it doesn't mean much, but still it's a small victory for Sony.
