Metal Gear Informer: MGSV: GZ healing spray, length & footprints

Sounds pretty good. I think $20 would have been a fair price. I may get it when it goes to that price for next-gen retail.

I absolutely adore MGS3, but I'm perfectly content that the CURE menu didn't survive past 2005. It was a marvellous idea for that game, and it gelled so perfectly with the survival themes and the feeling of being all on your own out there with no chance of backup, but that didn't make it any less tedious to pause the game and Styptic, Disinfect, Suture Kit, Bandage five times in a boss battle. Similarly, I kind of like MGS3's crazy shooting controls that are completely different from gun to gun, because learning them makes you feel the same kind of master with guns that Big Boss was, but I'd still rather just press L1 and R1, y'know?
For GZ, you may be right with them opting for a simple healing system considering the magnitude of the game but for PP I don't think they have an excuse not to implement an evolution of the MGS3 healing system at the very least. Yes pausing can interrupt the flow of the game but they can do without the menus all together, instead they can focus on making a elaborate system that allows you to heal Snake in real time with an ingame inventory, or sort of a mini-game customizing different buttons to different body parts in that mode. I mean the open world of PP is begging for that kind of thing if they wanna create a sense of survival.

I am so pumped for this. I can't wait to see the fox engine on PS4. I don't five a fuck how long this game is. In Kojima I ttust

Just need to finish a quick MGS3 and PW playthrough and I will be good to go for more MGS

MGS2- Wet foot prints from the storm on the tanker, you leave wet foot prints indoors for a bit. Guards will notice these prints and follow them. Guards also follow blood trails.

MGS3- Footprints from mud, water in some parts I believe. Don't remember if guards track or follow the prints.

You could also try to track the ends footprints in MGS3 by using thermal vision. Results may vary on that one.

Kojima is a genius.

I don't care that the main campaign is short. I can't even count how many games I played where the main scenario was incredibly short but where I still put well over 50 hours into the game. I feel like the length argument is neither here nor there when talking about games. Looking forward to this.

I ripped through Sonic 2 on release day in 45 minutes. Full price retail release. No warning label on the box.

Fucking worst game ever. Fuck Sega.

I have to agree. Maybe there's a way to implement a "cure" system into real-time (without it devolving into a QTE), but going into a menu to basically to walk through the motions wasn't particularly fun.

And this is coming from a person who thinks MGS3 is one of the greatest games ever made.

If they made it real time without stopping the action they'd have to drastically scale down the damage effects so it wouldn't be obnoxious, which would make the whole thing more of a pointless chore than it already was.

I hated having to open a menu if a boss as much as sneezed on me, I can't imagine how annoying it would be if I had to do that shit in real time.

I don't know if they do, though. I think Big Boss' survival days are over now that you can call in a helicopter to take you home for a hot meal and a bit of beard-grooming any time you like. The entire MGS series has moved to a more mission-based design from 4 onwards, really, which I can't say I really like. The lone-operative, fend-for-yourself thing is a big part of why MGS3 is my favourite.

Still, though, we know practically nothing about how The Phantom Pain will play, so I'm ever hopeful. I'd love to see some of the more in-depth mechanics return, albeit in cleverer, more streamlined ways.

I'm cool with the health bar being like this. It's a good mix of old and new. It punishes you for playing badly and trying to run and gun everything, but it doesn't mean you're inconvenienced too much by silly little mistakes like jumping from a high place, or making Meryl slap you in the face.

  • Snake leaves footprints in the mud, which can be spotted by guards. This is just one of the things that adds to the difficulty, other things include better fields of visions for guards, randomized patrol routes and search lights; there are many things that can give your position away.

That's some PS1 style innovation right there.

Done. Damn I wish Konami would release direct feed images of these.

Indeed, there are also some really cool ones and new Shinkawa art from a spanish magazine, too bad we can't post this here.

The Red Band trailer made it look like there was no animations showing Snake getting on or off the tank. I am glad there is and from the looks of it, it looks amazing! Those small details make a big difference to me.

I just wonder how short this game will be, at $39 I was expecting something very short but now at $29

I'm expecting something a little longer than a demo

[*]The writer doesn’t feel Ground Zeroes is short, they think an average player can easily put 8-10 hours into the game. The best player at Kojima Productions spent more than 100 hours discovering all secrets.

Good one Kojima!

Will the game have a Platinum?

That's all I need to sink hours and hours into a game...

haha I'm wondering the same thing, if it has platinum and I could get a good 20-30 hours out of it then it might be worth it price. If it's just a 100% trophy completion then nope, i'll wait until it's in the bargain bin for under $10.

Is MGSV:GZ looking like a good place to jump in for new fans of the series?
This is also knowing that the game is basically a demo and yadda yadda yadda.
I'm sure the gameply aspect is fine but i'm unsure how Kojima is handling the story for new players....since in the past playing MGS out of order was always a bad idea unless it was MGS3.

GZ is a direct sequel to Peace Walker. You need to at least play that game to understand the story in GZ. I highly recommend you play Snake Eater and Peace Walker if you have the time. The latter is so much fun to play!

Interesting, it did give that impression, maybe they hadn't done that one yet.

Should have mentioned I played them.
I'm asking for my dad, who I want to play the game. The last MGS game he played was MGS2. Dunno if I could get him to play Peace Walker or MGS3. He's in the camp that basically forgets the previous system exists when he has the newest one. I think I might just convince him regardless since it is only 30 and he doesn't have much to play on the XBox One at the moment.

well they did show him getting on and off the jeep and turning on the engine back in 2012. But I am interested to see the tank in action. Imagine having the ability to use a chopper in TPP 0_o

Yea I am sure he is going to love it, get it for him! :D

Fucking games these days. Halo destroyed them all. Every damn game has to have REGENERATION.

Here, here is a ultra realistic military simulation ... oh but one thing ... when you get shot YOU WILL REGENERATE. Yeah, you are fucking wolverine. You are a superhero even!

Fuck.

" minor injuries regenerate ... otherwise, you use a healing SPRAY ". WTF. What spray? Deodorant? Is this Axe for Injuries?

I know, overreaction to a minor issue. But damnit all. Can't these developers these days atleast try to put some thought and care into the minor details. Can't tell you how awesome it was to see you actually patching yourself up in TLOU.

And does Konami really consider spending 100 hours searching every nook and cranny for little secrets here and there fun? Really? There is a reason kids go easter egg hunting and not the adults. Hell it stops being fun even for the kids if they can't find that last egg within 5 minutes.
