PS4 surpasses 6 million units sold as of March 2nd

2.28 attachment rate.

That's very strong. Sony is killin' it.

If that's the case, doesn't it mean that the PS4 is profiting for Sony? We don't really know how much Sony is losing per PS4. We do know Sony is taking a slight loss on it though. I wonder if 2 games is enough to profit.

1 game is all that is needed iirc. There is also PS+.

My question is, even if they make/sell 1.2 million PS4s in March, are they going to reach their 15 million home console FY14 prediction? Because that still requires them selling 1 million PS3s, which I'm not sure they're gonna do.

Enthusiasts haven't even bought one yet, they're all acting nonchalant on forums waiting until the PS4 has the "must-have" game. It's the general public that are going mad for the PS4 that's why attachment rates aren't as high as the One which has the enthusiasts.

I have to say, intially this sounds silly, but if we look at the xbox ones attach rates, there is some truth to this.

The only problem is Sony refuses to blow their load in one go like Microsoft did. One big game per quarter. So any Enthusiast "bump" will be harder to notice until at least holiday 2014.

Why are you reading my tag instead of the title of my post?
GAF will explode if Sony still outsells MS. It will be a bloodbath of meltdowns, bans, and utter chaos.
We've had these since November. They're getting banned faster than we can approve them !!
Where are the graphs? I like graphs
And get me some pie charts !! Bitches love pie charts.
I honestly wonder if Sony themselves are even surprised. I get the feeling they are like "wait...wat is happening"
If our insiders are to be believed there's more anxiety than anything. They have a lot of responsibility on their plate to deliver. If the (probably) 8 million gamers aren't satiated soon (or by E3) they're gonna be pissed.

Yeah, I think it will too, but imagine if it didn't. The reaction here would be insane.
GAF would be down for a week!

And I agree with everyone that the PS4 is definitely going to outsell the Xbone worldwide in regions other than the US/maybe the UK in March. But Titanfall is still gonna be huge for them over here in the states.

EA must be in regret right now for having Titanfall only for Microsoft consoles. I'm sure Microsoft paid big money for the exclusivity but EA could have gotten more if they release it for Sony's consoles as well.

Risk. You can't go back and regret that. New IP new gen, they sold to mitigate that risk.

Anyone surprised by the fact that Call of Duty, Battlefield, and Assassin's Creed have helped to sell this system must have been in a coma for the past five years. The games were always multiplatform, and they always sold more on 360 because of the hardware price. Microsoft pretty much handed over the keys to the kingdom by trying to push Kinect on everyone.

Great news, hope they keep up the momentum. March probably won't be another million, more like 500-700k, but still excellent. They're on track to beat their own projection by 1.5 million at least.

Exactly my thought.
Sony can produce more than 1M PS4/month.
WTF are they doing?
FWIW, I'm working at a swiss electronics retailer and while we got decently sized PS4 shipments weekly in December/January (and when checking GAF threads it seemed to me that shipments were hitting in EU all at the same time), we got next to nothing in February. So yeah, not sure. Maybe stocking up for March for Infamous and to counter Titanfall?

So that means 700k through February, with just over half of that went to Japan, sweet Jesus 330k isn't enough to satisfy America or Europe on their own never mind combined.

Feb NPD has to favour MS in that month, it's got to.

Both figures were for the end of year 2013.

I'd put x1's WW sold through somewhere around 3.4 - 3.5 million through the end of February. We know they sold 140k in the US during the month of January and that figure is likely lower for Feb as most new buyers are holding off purchase in lieu of the TF bundle.

I think it's great that Sony is doing so well. I'll be getting a PS4 at some point. I'm still interested to see how the sales figures will look over the course of the first full year.

Congrats on 6 million Sony!

EA probably are regretting nothing, they must got a lot money from MS for all those exclusivity deals.

lol ea. just their luck. they associated their games heavily with the ps3 during the past couple of years (dead space, medal of honour, battlefield, etc.) and now they thought aha better associate ourselves with the xbox so they doubled down on their ea sports games and now titanfall.

gotta be like activision. cod for xbone, destiny for ps4. associate your games based on what you think the audience is for each console.

ubisoft has been doubling down on playstation since the ps1.

In late January Microsoft announced they had shipped 3.9 million units up to December 31st 2013. Of those 3.9 million units, 3.0 million were sold-through.

The Xbox One is gonna get killed in Februrary's NPD compared to PS4. Microsoft's marketing has died down drastically while Sony's has really picked it up the last few weeks.

And when you try to mitigate your risk, you can be in danger of ending up with less return on your investment. That's what may happen here.
It's not a "danger"- it's a concession you're willing to make for money up front.

Probably pushing a lot of units to Japan. I don't think they've ever said how many they can produce a month, but I doubt that it's a million+ at this point. It was Pachtert that tossed out the idea that Sony's making 1.4m PS4's every month.

you do know ps2 sold 155 million units worldwide, yes? to put that into perspective, the popular wii sold 55 million less than the ps2.

Only the PS2 and Wii have sold faster, right?
It's selling significantly faster than the Wii and the PS2 month for month. The real test comes in the 9 month after the PS4's second holiday, which is when the PS2 blew the doors off and kept the "launch momentum" going for an additional year.

If the PS4 can keep this up for until this time next year, then the PS2 comparisons might be appropriate. Until then, it's anyone's guess.

Right, and it is completely possible to end up regretting your decision to concede because you end up with less money, which was the whole point of the guy's original post on the subject.

I guess. I see it more as a "well it could have been more"- but I don't think they regret it.

I see your point tho. Interested to see what happens to Titanfall 2.

I wonder if PS4 can double Xbox One sales and surpass future overall lifetime Wii U sales within 12 months.
