PS2 to infinity and beyond, that thing was just an absolute beast.

Glad to know that just 3 days ago I bought a PS4 and it contributed to very close to this number :p

Cerny must be on a very long all-expenses paid vacation in a location of his choice.

Hmm it's interesting to look at eBay's completed sales for the PS4.

I would say the average price going is around $500 give or take $25 [looking at US ebay], 4 months after the console has released and with 2.2m+ consoles already sold in the US alone

So it still has a $100 markup which would imply the demand is very much still real and not being adequately quenched.

There were some really odd completed buy it now sales though of $275 but they were surprisingly underpriced considering the average price I saw.

Congrats to Sony. PS4 is an amazing console. Quite like it.

However, I think the sales of next-gen console (PS4+X1) are quite front-loaded. I started to worry about their legs when most of hard-core gamers have the consoles purchased. I hope I am wrong.

I wonder if PS4 can double Xbox One sales and surpass future overall lifetime Wii U sales within 12 months.

It already did.

WiiU numbers from this thread are "shipped". And if there are tons of stocks in retailers, then the PS4 probably outsold the WiiU last month.

edit: ohhh future overall lifetime. lol, that's gonna suck hard for Nintendo.

Around 1.43M over 9 weeks in markets besides Japan. About 160k per week - ~640 globally in January, 270k of which in the US from memory.

Not sure where, from these numbers at least, the impression comes of a February collapse.

Interesting. I have a friend trying to sell his Xbox One for $380 right now to put it in perspective.

I think he means like years ahead of now. When the Wii-U is dead or confirmed dead.

EA must be in regret right now for having Titanfall only for Microsoft consoles. I'm sure Microsoft paid big money for the exclusivity but EA could have gotten more if they release it for Sony's consoles as well.

Please be excited for Titanfall Sigma.

Wii U shipments are probably around 6.15 right now, so I'd peg installbase somewhere around 4.75-5 million.

PS4's 6 million installbase is blasting right past that.

It's selling significantly faster than the Wii and the PS2 month for month. The real test comes in the 9 month after the PS4's second holiday, which is when the PS2 blew the doors off and kept the "launch momentum" going for an additional year.

If the PS4 can keep this up for until this time next year, then the PS2 comparisons might be appropriate. Until then, it's anyone's guess.

I can see it happening.
They still have UC, TLOU, GOW, GT(Demo/Prologue) to work with for 2015.
TLG or DeS2 would just be killer...if they ever announce them.
FF15 and KH3 to finish the year off as well.

Still great stuff for 2015 if Sony wants to depend on their 1st party only though.

No, I mean come 2019 the Wii U lifetime number could be lower than the November 2014 PS4 number.

Just a reminder to people: remember the Chinese New Year (lunar) effect in the production still exists on the available supply. 2-3 weeks with ZERO console made in their factory.

I doubt FF15 and KH3 will release in the same year.

On San Diego Craigslist I'm seeing some for $420, $430, $470, ...wow there's one for $390 with Battlefield 4 from someone in Oceanside...

That's really tempting actually...

It's nice to have a steady drum beat of data. They're all but taunting Microsoft to provide an update of their own, knowing the comparison is getting less and less favorable.

So around 700k units were sold in Feb. worldwide. From that, 370k was in Japan.

330k seems too little to me. Is it probably due Sony focusing stock to Japan?

Any educated guesses on what could be the NA numbers for Feb?

you do know ps2 sold 155 million units worldwide, yes? to put that into perspective, the popular wii sold 55 million less than the ps2.

i am very aware of how much the PS2 sold.yet still, the early numbers of the PS4 is higher than the PS2.

if this continue, the PS4 will out sell the PS2. there is no doubt here. the PS2 sold so many units later down the road and it kept selling when the PS3 was out.

we wont know how much the PS4 will sell. but looking at the current figures right now, if there is one system that has a chance to sell or come close to the PS2. its the PS4.

imagine what will happen if by the end of the year or early next year Sony dropped the price on the system a little to keep the 100$ difference between it and the Xbox one, it will be chaos all over again

Ah yes, almost forgot. Thank you for the reminder. That would explain why this month's shipments worldwide look very slim (700k consoles from Feburary 8th-March 2nd). Really interested to see how big they kick off March, since they're shipping their 1st, first party system seller. (And they're actually marketing it for a change, go figure)

Those ones with (at)gmail.com on it are all bogus ads. They show up in every city's Craigslist, especially on video game console ads.

Hmm didn't know that. There are probably more legitimate ones near me in the 400s

A couple sub 400s that are probably real as well actually

I figure if the ad has a phone number and not just an email address, there's a greater chance of legitimacy.

I think the (at)gmail.com ones are just fishing for spam addresses, that's why they want you to email them directly at that address instead of using Craigslist as the email middleman which hides your email address.

Playstation is back, but SONY is still not. Get rid of all other business and turn into a pure gaming company, Sony~!!!

I am kidding...Congrats to Sony!!!

Excellent sales and completely deserved. Hopefully they continue.

I think they'll just miss 7 million by end of March tho, not that it matters. :p

They still need to increase shipments as well which is insane when you think about it.

Impressive numbers. Just crazy how huge the demand still is. 7 million on April 1st is a reality.... Wonder where xbone is right now... around 3,7 million?

A lot of that simply has to do with the fact that the PS2 wasn't available in most countries at this point and Sony also wasn't as good at producing and shipping them. I agree that, if any console can surpass the PS2, it's the PS4, but the real test will come once Sony is able to meet demand. The PS3 was also able to outpace the PS2 within the same timeframe, but sales dropped after a year or so. The PS3 still sold well, but not nearly as well as the PS2.

i am still sad about them selling the laptop. they used to have the best laptops in Windows. second to Apple IMHO.

and i really love their TVs. they are much better than Samsung in my eyes. just more expensive.

XB1 is probabaly at 3.5-6 million.

I mean 3 million at the start of Jan. 140k JAN NPD (lets assume EU + other matched it) and that FEB was similar then you have 3.6 million. There shipment was 3.9 million at the beginning of Jan iirc.
