So around 700k units were sold in Feb. worldwide. From that, 370k was in Japan.

330k seems too little to me. Is it probably due Sony focusing stock to Japan?

Any educated guesses on what could be the NA numbers for Feb?
The 5.3m figure was through February 8th, so the 700k sold since was for ~3 weeks, not a full month.
XB1 is probabaly at 3.5-6 million.

I mean 3 million at the start of Jan. 140k JAN NPD (lets assume EU + other matched it) and that FEB was similar then you have 3.6 million. There shipment was 3.9 million at the beginning of Jan iirc.

Yes, I think that's a reasonable estimate.

However the NA numbers end up for Feb. an instal base of 6 million consoles is fantastic.
Sony is on track to accomplish what they've wanted from the beginning.

When developers are considering bringing their game to PS4:

"Why not?"

700k for three weeks?

A lot of that simply has to do with the fact that the PS2 wasn't available in most countries at this point and Sony also wasn't as good at producing and shipping them. I agree that, if any console can surpass the PS2, it's the PS4, but the real test will come once Sony is able to meet demand. The PS3 was also able to outpace the PS2 within the same timeframe, but sales dropped after a year or so. The PS3 still sold well, but not nearly as well as the PS2.

true to that. but its been 5 months since the PS4 is out. and there is still no stock. the only systems that were like this ever i believe were the WII and the PS2. and both of them sold 100M+

It's nice to have a steady drum beat of data. They're all but taunting Microsoft to provide an update of their own, knowing the comparison is getting less and less favorable.

Curious as hell to know where they are, sold-through, as of right now? 3.5ml low, 3.8ml high. They've probably shipped or will ship another million ahead of Titanfall. They'll probably announce 5 million (shipped) just before the 11th.

points for ps4 sellings like ps2
-great start and vibe
-an architecture which lends itself to price reductions and hence a long tail of sales
points
-mobile
-legit compeititon in xbox and pc
-differnt industry scenario

think ps4 will def surge ahead. dont expect ps2 numbers ... even the wii tailed off badly ps2 was sony being dominant back when console gaming was the top thing . dont see it never being achieved again but not in the full on console form .... maybe with vr/augmented realiality or ps now revenues etc . Can def see profits being matched or exceeded (even taking inflation into account) but on pure hardware sales etc ... not seeing it yet.

Please don't read to much into its sales number. With the current state of Sony, PS4 is like an old bike with new engine forced to race, it will indeed have a incredible speed but it'll break soon.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Ah yes, almost forgot. Thank you for the reminder. That would explain why this month's shipments worldwide look very slim (700k consoles from Feburary 8th-March 2nd). Really interested to see how big they kick off March, since they're shipping their 1st, first party system seller. (And they're actually marketing it for a change, go figure)

Ah, that explains more the theorised 330k shipped in the West, (700k - 370k from Japan launch). What are Sony's factories? One in China, one in Japan, then?

PS4 could come close to doubling XB1's total sales soon at this rate... Though March might impede that if Titanfall does what MS hopes.

Still, it's crazy we're even in the ballpark of that situation.

PS4 supply in Europe I think has definitely been hurt by the Japanese launch. I guess Fergal Gara wasn't kidding when he said it would be April before things balance out.

3.9 million shipment as of December 31st.

pretty sure sell thrus arent that great. there are price drops on top of the price drops ms has given .... thats saying something. not that there arent for ps4 (uk and nz i think had some drops by retailers) but nothing as widespeard as xbone ..... def sell thru is not upto to par as of now ... lets see what titanfall and its 2 weeks of only xbone one hype and marketing brings it (btw know its a good game ... but given how its being positioned as a xbone only thing as far as pr is concerned will be an interesting march npd)

Amazing sales. I assume it is sold through, but either way not a bad few months for Sony. Not just not bad, but kicking a lot of ass. What a turnaround.

Its insane that this thing is still hard to find, big seller in uk like game still have it on preorder, that 6m figure could be up at least a million or so if they could get more stock out there.

Is the shipment number on December 31st drastically different than the shipment number on January 1st to the point where you need to refute his claim about "the start of January"?

No need to be hostile, man.

I'm not refuting anything. I was just clarifying because here on NeoGAF it's good to be precise.

Not saying PS4 will definitely hit PS2 numbers but it won't have such a short tail like the Wii since it actually has third party support.

Microsoft must have planned TF to be a killing blow, instead it will be an equaliser. Still, while I'm happy with my PS4, I'll be even happier if both consoles go gangbusters. Incredible to think how much has changed in 13 months, though. Holy mother.

I start to think the gap between PS4 and XB1 will be greater than 40millions. If this is the case, then I expect PS4 to be sold around 120million, then XB1 can be sold 80millions in its lifetime. And I will be happy for both.

Sorry Wii U, you are out of the scope...

We haven't had an update from MS in a while but if we assume Europe is selling about the same as NA and we assume Feb was similar to Jan we'd be at about 3.6m for XB1 by start of March.

What's for sure is, MS isn't going to publicise a 3.x number when Sony's trumpeting 6.x. I think MS will at least wait until they can say 5.x, although by then who knows where Sony might be. I guess a lot depends on Titanfall.

Europe isn't selling as well as America.

Version with a longer time scale and a 6 million line, so you can see how long it took for other consoles to hit this number:

EU is selling worse then NA. Whenever Xbone hits 5 million, PS4 is in 10 million area. I guess we wont hear any numbers for a long time. And I doubt that even Titanfall could change this. We might see a "sales doubled" or "sales increased 200%" or something.

Is this some kind of account suicide? I don't even...

If things keep up at this rate we could see Sony saying PS4 double X1 sales WW at E3 .
Crazy stuff to tell you the truth and would make E3 madness even more fun .

I could tell this is sarcasm just by this statement alone.

I think at this point they'll just wait till their financial results. By your estimates(and they're very generous with EU) they haven't even gone through last year's shipments, I predict Q1 shipments to be about 1m, either way it'll be a number around 5.xm

Please understand, with the current state of Sony, PS4 is like a rocketship waiting to take off. It will indeed have a incredible speed but it'll skyrocket soon.

The system is still mostly sold out in stores here in Norway. There's however, a few stores online that has it in stock now and has since end of February.

If that old bike is a PS2 with even a more powerful engine then...

It's not really anymore crazy than the "marathon not a sprint" analogies. The idea that fast up front sales leads to slower sales later has been brought up plenty before, even though history has shown it's always been more of a snowball effect than anything else.
