Holy shit Magical Melody. I didn't know that I owned 1 of less than 7000 copies.

Man. Why are HM numbers so consistently awful? I love this series. I'm really glad that Marvelous will be able to celebrate by hopefully blowing their own projections out of the water. Hurray for low bars.

The PS4 is taking the same path as the Wii U in Japan. And no launch of the XBO at all in Japan is a big possibility. This gen is going to be interesting in term of sales.

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage
I never realized how big the gap between 3DS and Vita LTD was. Wow.

So what was the story with the PS4 shipments in the end?

Shipment 1 size? How many days to sell out?

Shipment 2 size? Sell out?

Mpl90

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
So, PS4 situation.

First week shipment left around 40-50k across the country unsold.
Last week there has been a second shipment for the Limited pack, as seen through Yodobashi's site. A small one, that still didn't sell out completely, since we've had reports of people finding the console in Japan, and that took three days to be almost sold out at Yodobashi. It doesn't seem to be as supply costrained as over here, for sure.

Again, I want to know if this page is the one stating PS4's stock situation across the country and what it says

http://www.yodobashi.com/ec/product/stock/100000001002152125/index.html

It was at the end of page 2, so reposting.

30k is a big number leap. Does the game have more marketing/hype than the previous 3DS game?

I presume that the new model is much more cost efficient thus Sony could do another price cut to keep the momentum
I think the last Harvest Moon game being so good (and commercially successful) helped a lot. But there's probably more marketing to also buttress that fact. It also has a ton of new customisation features and seems to be expanding on the last game in all the right ways.

As for the Vita 2000 model. I think it's because it's more cost efficient that I believe a price drop isn't necessary. They've finally got a model out -- at a similar price point to the OLED one -- that can give a decent margin for profit which I don't think is worth sacrificing for a few extra k sales. I think last year's price drop showed that price isn't necessarily the limiting factor, but rather a healthy software release schedule. The 2000 model is fairly price competitive to the 3DS LL already.

Platform hopping? The series has been all over the place for a while and it isn't big enough for that. Focusing it on Nintendo portables the last couple of years has really paid off for them.

If there are really supply constraints, that's a solid second week for PS4.. Vita starting to catch up to the 3DS weekly is not a good look for Nintendo... With that said Harvest Moon and other 3DS software are doing very solid..

Didn't expect PS4 second week to be that bad, it's worse than the Vita and Wii U. At least 3DS and Vita increased by 5k this week.

To be fair it's not so much Vita catching up as 3DS sales being constantly down on last year, bit of a difference. Agree that Nintendo should be worried though, I'm not sure their big guns this year (Smash, Mon Hun 4g, maybe Pokemon Z) are going to do much to help in comparison to last year's release list.

I thought Harvest Moon is a popular series too before I asked and read some post on this thread. Harvest Moon: Back to Nature is one of my favourite PS1 game :'(

Good point. You're right that while competitive price is a quite factor, but what matter most is consistent software launch. I hope there will be more games announced for Vita later this year.

Those are some solid openings for the 3DS titles.

I'm not familiar with other new releases ones bar VH3:G which needs to do better because of that amazing commercial. How Japan did not go into droves to buy it is beyond me.

PS4 would have probably would have been a bit higher if the stock situation was sorted out, but it doesn't seem like it is the same situation as the PS2 or the Wii where it was sold out every where.

Yo-Kai Watch's anime must be really good if its sales are going up so often. Seems Level-5 has another IP
that they can milk till it dies.

Plus product page (http://www.yodobashi.com/ec/product/100000001002152125/index.html) giving 28/02/2014 as the date when the new SKU was available.

The SKU started being available at Yodobashi on March 4th. Even if they said it would have been available on 5th, it went on stock on most stores on 4th (the update page, at 20:50, was showing PS4 being available).

I can see PS4's third week not dropping as much as normally expected just due to PS4 being available with the brand new pack. Looking at Amazon.co.jp, though, it's not rocking the house ("only" 8th, for a new hardware, is not that good, and games are low)

I asked this before but why the sudden interest in Amazons bestsellers list ?

I thought it was established that it is useless ( or unreliable at least ) as a metric for Sales performance ?

Amazon can give you trends, if filtered correctly. In the sense: you'll probably see specific core titles doing better on Amazon than at retail due to the audience which preorders, and the opposite. So, not numbers. But it can give you general trends/ indications. Again, if you give the right weight to specific factors. For guessing in the best way possible sales of titles, Comgnet + Amazon is a good way, especially if you know how to read Comgnet (i.e. comparisons between titles from the same series).

Yeah, that's right, Amazon is easy for a Comgnet master like me.

I think you're right, unreliable sources like these can still suggest things about demand when reviewed in context. One has to avoid jumping to conclusions like Amazon sellout = Sellout everywhere though.

didn't marvelous went bankrupt or something?

I think you're mistaken. It was Neverland, the company who made the Rune Factory games (and it wasn't a subsidiaries, they were independent). Marvelous is still alive, and doing quite well actually.

Pretty good numbers for Harvest Moon and PS4. I imagine the PS4 sells this much a week in the US currently, so 65k in a country 2.5 times smaller is pretty impressive in my opinion.

We can all say 2016 will se another Harvest Moon for 3DS, then. It could even be one of those titles coming out on a console when its successor is already out! (Not seeing a multi-release, considering the title - games like SRWZ3rd is part of this kind: titles that don't neeed to be released on next gen as fast as they can. Mayyybe in the West, with Natsume doing the job, like with Tales of two towns).

Amazing debut for HM and good start for Fossil Fighters as well.

PS4 is supply constrained. We don't know to what effect it is damaging overall sales, but yeah.

Harvest Moon really overperformed my expectations. I thought it'd settle for the usual 150k LTD, but this will probably blow past 200k like ANB. Impressive.

17./12. [WIU] Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze <ACT> (Nintendo) {2014.02.13} (¥5.985) - 10.056 / 60.103 (-30%)

Will this get to 100k? :\

The shipment is 100k. Seems like a slow burner. It'll sell out the initial shipment, but that is it. You might even say Japanese Wii U owners are a bit... cranky.

If I had to take a stab at it I would say its... The Weakest Link.

BTW, the PS4 version of Yakuza: Ishin! only selling 22K this week being the PS4 top selling game. (Not counting Knack for obvious reasons). That's horrible, man.

And that's oneof the main concerns for the next future, together with the lineup being desertic.

And that's oneof the main concerns for the next future, together with the lineup being desertic.

That's also why I feel that even if it is supply constrained this week, it will be out of fuel soon.

I thought they had a decent first showing at that pre-TGS thing, but past that they just never got anything else announced of any consequence.

Meanwhile is the West we just got Arkham Knight for Fall 2014 as a mandatory next-gen upgrade for what's a quite sizable franchise (Asylum 4.3M, City 6M last reported shipments), especially with the Rocksteady entries. This is what the PS4 needs in Japan and it just doesn't have it.
