PLEASE TAKE THE STREAM TALK TO THE SPOILER THREAD. DON'T GET BANNED FOR POSTING SPOILERS WHERE YOU SHOULDN'T BE

I'm glancing over this last page and it's nothing but stream link begging, spoiler tags for a game that's not out yet, or complaints about people fucking up spoiler tagging. If you're going to discuss stream shit, go to the spoiler thread.

Just don't do it here. It's not fair to those trying to hold off until the actual release.

Jesus the opening cinematic definitely looks next gen on my tv. I know it's not gameplay but going from ps4 to ps3 wasn't so bad after watching that.

I played for about an hour tonight and man that emotion. The feeling of being genuinely afraid again. It's so real. I'm glad I didn't watch any preview videos or streams becuase I have no idea what's around any corner.

Indeed. It almost looks CG.

lol

If anyone sees stats/requirements for the Moonlight Sword in this game, please let me know. That sword was my JAM in DarkSouls. Laser beams all day baby!

Good luck doing no physical damage there bud. Hope u don't run into anyone with GMB there bud.

Brightness doesn't get rid of shadows, AO nor geometry. The lighting in that scene is completely different.
Brightness and gamma can most definitely make shadows, ao, and any dark areas in a game much less visible. Of course it can't change geometry, but that has nothing to do with lighting.

As I said, I doubt the lighting still looks exactly the same, but I also doubt that pic is showing off how the area really looks. I've seen streams where Majula looks completely washed out and you can barely see the shadows, and I know it doesn't really look like that at all.

edit: I'm also not saying the graphics are exactly the same, all I'm saying is they probably aren't as bad as people are trying to make it seem.

Well those items, it seems like they're found on preset locations only (not a fact at all, don't quote me on that). You use them to
activate mechanisms here and there that can be either good or bad (you know From likes to troll you).

So the reason I want more of them is because I don't know if their number is strictly limited per playthrough or not, so I want to get at least one more in the inventory. You never know when you might need them.

Hmmm, interesting.

Bless you.

Well... clearly a huge difference there. No point in debating it.

Here's hoping the top is PC with maximum settings, and they didn't just bullshit us.

Dude, I'm pretty sure that last shot was taken from a (low-res) video. There are huge box/ pixels everywhere.

And the PC version will definitely kick balls visually. They promised 4x the native resolution of consoles.

Me upon seeing people spoiling themselves with streams.

Let's Play Spoil Dark Souls II.

Some people have already mentioned they don't mind spoiling the game since they only care for the PvP aspects of the game. That's a fair argument and that explains why so many have been looking up for as many fresh info they can gather: Builds, stats, weapons, etc.

I'm not bothering with PvP at all unless it is so much better than the original DS.

The pain in the ass is that I actually would like info on mechanics and the sort but not story relsted things. The other thread is no holds barred.

Are you gonna play offline?

Cause you're gonna have to deal with invasions all the time. I know there are priority queues in the game, help from covenants and so on but it's not like you can just run hollow and bypass that altogether. So it's not really a choice, unfortunately.

I only hope there's less lag, less lagstabs and I'll be cool with it. Just don't wanna have to deal with bullshit all the time while I'm trying to make progress. In dark souls I'm getting invaded every 5-10 minutes and it gets boring fast, but at least it happens cause I choose it. Training and all, you win some and lose some.

But when it's due to lag it's really really frustrating to lose progress. When I see the invasion message I backtrack so I don't have to fight all those enemies again to reclaim my shit in case I lose. Considering the amount of griefing, lagstabing and pyro spamming in this game, it's bound to happen often.

It's the only aspect of DSII that I'm not feeling right now but I hope it's more balanced and doesn't detract too much from the fun.

I am Homie
That song is absolutely fascinating. Mainly because it doesn't seem to fit with a Souls game at all. It's like a suspenseful movie trailer song.

Dark Souls 1 was very heavy sounding from what I remember, probably me just having a selective memory from standout tracks and other music blended into the world more

This makes me really interested to play the game and what kind of stuff is in it

Agreed. Cant get enough of it.

So, according to Veggy, there's a reward for
completing the game without resting at a bonfire
. Yeah, good luck with that.
Wow. I hope that's a trophy, just to taste the tears from the trophy whores, haha.

(Also, spoiler-tagged that just in case...)

You guys stream chasing are funny.
Seriously. The best part of Dark Souls is the discovery. I watched the initial reveals, and played the beta, just to get a taste, but nothing more.

I beat Manus and Kalameet at SL1 tonight, so I think I'm prepared now. Of course, I'm sure I'm horribly wrong. -)

Nope, doesn't feel like a locked 30fps AT ALL. I'll try record some footage.

A lot of conflicting opinion on this matter, even on this thread. Some says (two so far) that the FPS is really bad, others says it's great. You say you're waiting for the PC, so basicaly you're saying you pirated it, right? Might have something to do with it, the torrent I mean.

Don't know about that last part lol, but yeah, we have people saying the game runs like crap with screen tearing and all that on one hand, and on the other we have guys like Creamium running into no obvious issues at all. Even so, tons of people were making judgements based on crappy streams.

I don't think anyone should worry before playing it and seeing it for themselves.

Just updated to v1.01. Let's see how it goes now...

There's already an official day one patch?

That's pretty awesome if they put up the day 1 patch days before the game is even out.

They know some people got it early. Like in Dark Souls when they had the devs invade people with unbeatable characters since they got the game early lol

Indeed. Was the old 360 build ever shown for that area? Perhaps they had to downgrade lighting for performance. It could well have been a "PS3 build" and was intended to be run on PS3 but was actually on a PC.
That is most likely the case. We're yet to see if the PC version was saved from these cuts :/

I found PS3 footage with better brightness settings. Here's a somewhat updated comparison:

No matter how you cut it the game took a huge hit in the lighting department. Environment shadows and AO are gone.

Damn that's a lot of stats that raise HP...

Which is probably good because it seems like there are a lot of stats you'll need to distribute points in now. Even if you focus on just strength or dex without magic it seems like you'll have to spread it a little thin since vig, end, vit, and adapt all also seem necessary.

I agree with you on the lag aspect. I like my games to feel responsive and snappy. Having enemies that teleport around, don't get damaged even though you see the hit animation is really detrimental to the game. The effects of lag are even worse because of my geographical location (NZ). I really hope DSII will be a lot better lag wise, otherwise I might resort to playing offline.

It takes a lot less to level now though. Average SL by end of game will be higher than the previous games.

Yo!

...

Nailed it.

First time with Dark Souls was when my bro and I got it from a redbox (he got Skyrim and I Dark Souls). One of my best decisions ever.
I loved the atmosphere and exploration. The challenge felt great and was a breath of fresh air. Then there was the story which I slowly understood more and more until it all clicked together.

It's one of my favorite games ever. I've got the CE for 2 preordered and paid off. I've been avoiding seeing any gameplay aside from the trailers. Gonna be a hell of an adventure.

Praise the Sun!

Holy fuck, they stripped out the realtime shadows at the last second! Is there anyone in the know at From that can give us the scoop? Massive downgrade! The beta ran fine, I don't understand!

This is the second time you have had to say this right? People just won't listen. Its why I'm wary to even visit this OT because most of the discussion is about the stream.

Yeah the MK demo was that exact place and it looked amazing just like it did in the reveal (was playing on PS3). What happened?

I don't want any specific details or spoilers, but I'm curious as to if anyone who's playing the game already has run into any NPC invaders, and if so, just like PvP, I assume they would be far more difficult to miss this time what with hollow invasions?

I'm very disappointed with From if that lighting fuck-up is real. I don't play Dark Souls for the graphics and I don't even care much about the downgrade, but a last minute change without notice is basically lying to your loyal customers.

I saw what looked like an NPC invasion in one of VaatiVidya's videos. The name certainly seemed to be NPC style.

Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude.

That better be for the console versions only. I was so excited to see that lighting in motion.

It would be a strange thing to change unless they just couldn't manage to get the new lighting on old consoles without significant framerate issues. It seemed from interviews and other pre-release info that the new engine was kind of designed with the lighting changes in mind. Unless they found it really problematic I imagine we'll see it all in the PC version though.

I can't say I'm not a little disappointed if the lighting that we saw months ago was scrapped at the last minute :(

I wouldn't bet on it. This exact thing happened to Oblivion if you remember, they pulled the realtime shadows out of the PC version as well because they didn't want to have to support two different code paths for lighting going forward.

I'm really sad about the downgrade as well... I hope this game comes out on next-gen. PC to next-gen should be a straightforward port.
