Dark Souls II |OT| The Dark Souls of Dark Souls

Disappointed with the lighting downgrade. People thinking the old lighting model will be in the PC version are delirious as fuck and those thinking that it's something Durante can mod in are beyond saving. I'd like to believe, but come the fuck on.

Still going to race to the store on Friday
woo, europe!
and play the heck out of it. I've played every version of Dark Souls there is, including pre-patch frameratetown and the PC version at both downscaled 4K at 60fps and 720 upscaled at 15fps. The core gameplay is simply built for me and there's no situation where I could pass on playing this game.
The game is great

@IroN1c: @bradshoemaker So that's bascially kind of a review?

@bradshoemaker: @IroN1c kinda!

To be fair Brad also thought Skyrim was the best game of 2011.

I have seen nods to King's Field, Demon's and Dark Souls, plus a shit ton of new stuff as well. The so called 'recycling' is nothing more than Easter Egg type stuff as far as I am concerned. A mere acknowledgment that is in-keeping with the series and as a sequel to Dark Souls specifically.

People who are claiming that it looks drab or uninspired are going to be in for a surprise when they see some of the variety and drool worthy locations. On top of that, there are all sorts of new enemies and bosses and a shitload more gear that is better looking than ever. This game has way more content than Demon's or Dark Souls and is every bit as hardcore.

I was spoiled on something that could be considered recycling, but personally I think it's awesome and made me more hyped for the game.

Have you got the game?

I wonder what happened to this game. The graphics didn't even look that great before, but without the dynamic lighting and shadows it looks like it's running on a completely different engine now.

That's what DS1 looked like too.

Indeed. Look at some of the muddy textures on cliff sides around Valley of Drakes or things like walls and gates down in The Depths. Then see how nice places like Anor Londo look. This game just plain looks better with more places on par with the beauty of Anor Londo and has even more variety and locations in general.

So they got rid weird of the dynamic lighting in the console versions? thats a bummer since i was planning o get the PS3 version.

Could be stick figures and completely textureless for all i care. As long as the combat is somewhat like the previous games. Which seems to be the case! The only thing i'm not sure about is how the need to direct your swings will affect the combat. Any comments on that?

What are you even talking about? Have you seen the game?

Item and one bossfight spoilers -

Almost all the sorceries are recycled from DS1. All the pyromancies. Not just a few here and there but almost ALL of them. Same names, same effects.

The gargoyle boss fight is back. Same-ish location. Same concept. They even recycled music for crying out loud.

And thats just part of what I have seen so far.

gave away the keys to the kingdom.
Same price Steam is offering here on BR. Go nuts PC-Gaf

Yeah, but due to the AllowCrossRegionTradingAndGifting flag gift copies from South American users are region-locked at the activation level and thus can only be redeemed if one has an IP based in a South American country. Fortunately, though, the flag has absolutely zero bearing on retail keys.

Why exactly are you posting that again? I swear people really don't understand this one.

Those two shots are taken from PRE-RENDERED VIDEO. This is the ultimate example of changes made to art design (even if you don't like the change). This has nothing to do with hardware limitations or problems. It was 100% video.

Uncharted 3 is one of the best looking games on PS3.

I'm sure the goal of Uncharted's pre-rendered cutscenes was to make them look consistant with the gameplay.
I don't know how anyone can honestly say artistically that the final cutscenes look better.

So it's safe to buy from the US with a credit card? Or so I have to use PayPal?

LOL, I have watched a shitload of it and there is more than enough new on top of the kinds of things you are mentioning. Apparently you have not seen any of that.

What are you going on to reach those conclusions?

So? Did I say there was NOTHING new? Spin it however you want, the amount of recycling is disappointing. Its a sequel so you expect some stuff to be there. This is just a way larger percentage that I would have wanted. They had time, its not like this is a yearly sequel.

Akuun

Looking for meaning in GAF
I preordered a PC Black Armour Edition from amazon.co.uk and somehow that wound up being $50 including international shipping, but it's sold out now. At the moment your only option for a physical PC release (assuming you don't want to import it from Europe) is the Collector's Edition, which is available online from Club Namco, Amazon, and GameStop for $109.99.
Damn. It looks like all of those things are not sold in Canada either.

Thanks for the info, though.

Yeah, they had enough time to make a bigger game with lots of new content, plus nods to old. Can't wait.

So I was a bit of an idiot and didn't think about preordering until the last minute. Now neither Gamestop or Best Buy has it in stock for pick-up. Any other stores do something similar or will I be OK, there's a Walmart next to the Gamestop.

People are talking about a visual downgrade for the game? About the only time I'll never care about that, just gimme that sweet Dark Souls gameplay

Just walk into Walmart day of release and pick it up. Their usually good about putting out new releases early on release day.

Its funny most people don't even know the context behind that comparison even more laughable when someone posts it thinking its gameplay.

First. I didnt posted that pic before and if someone did I did not saw it. Im just having fun with the overreactions here. Dark Souls 2 looks fine despite the lighting downgrade.

Case in point.

Can it be classed as a downgrade if previous footage was PC?

In any case who cares as long as the game itself is great, there is a TON of content crammed into the game which will last hundreds of hours so you can forgive it if the graphics aren't as good as the latest dudebro 4 hour campaign

How many times does it have to be said that previous footage was PS3 and me and many others have played it?

I just don't like how scamco and FROM tried to pull this without telling anyone. Misrepresentation there. Glad people got it early so we could discover this. However like this is hardly something to put me off the game.

Yeah, I'm playing Dark Souls again right now just to get my chops back and I see all kinds of muddy textures and shit. But it does not even register.

I'm curious, if you play the 360 version without an Xbox Live Gold account, what features will you have access to? How was this handled in DS1?

I assume you won't be able to summon/invade/be invaded, but will you be able to see and 'playback' bloodstains, see orange soapstone hints, use miracle synergy, find cursed player statues (assuming these concepts are still in DS2), etc.?

You surely didnt get it was simply a joke. Vote with your wallet and move on.

Some people are taking things way too seriously around here.

I think it just starts the game on offline mode.
