And even i am moderately surprised
Receipts? Mind taking a few pics?

i assumed someone would question it - so the last time i went to the stores i took videos of me -asking- whether there was any stock - i can upload if necessary ;)

... i really think we need to stop relying on the site update - it's not accurate to what is happening in the stores.

Seems fine to me.

wasn't in stock in Aki ! RUINED! ;)

again - just to clarify - i'm not claiming that the PS4 is on some roller coaster of great sales - it seems pretty clear that the stock levels are -very- low and it doesn't seem like demand is in some sort of frenzy.

Just that the situation on the ground is that : there are units, but not everywhere- places are selling out but that's almost certainly down to drip feed of supply. But just wanted to clarify that the whole "well yodobashi's website says..." thing

? Most of the people here are "obsessed" with PS4 sales. I don't understand, sorry.
There's obsessive and there's obsessive...

(I find Mpl affable, and often informative, and hope this doesn't offend him/her, but I can see where Moor-Angol is coming from...)

Tsutaya is a good weekly chart, not Comgnet

how can 14 shops be reliable for the entire nation-wide market ?

recently you have become too much obsessed over PS4 sales... stop it please

PS4 sales are the main theme of these threads now, and will be for a good while. I suggest you get used to it.

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
You know things are strained when posts are non-stop ;) 's.

I think people should probably relax a little with the STOCK ALERT stuff as sparks from axe grinding can get a bit blinding. I would enjoy Japan sending some of that stock the UK's way though because jesus christ.

Sorry, not PS4 related but... Do you have comgnet numbers for upcoming 3DS games? Mario Golf, Mario Party, Theatrhythm, etc... (may be too early for Senran Kagura 2, though :p).

Thanks!

I really don't see what the hell you're talking about, man ;)

I don´t understand the focus on PS4 either it´s not like it launched recently in Japan or something, oh my bad it actually did ;) I find mpl90 posts informative, the problem seems to be that some people don´t like what the data is indicating and therefore shooting the messenger for no other reason.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!

I'm aware of this, I know I've been talking about PS4 a little too much in these last weeks, and I'm sorry for that. It's just that...it's the only other console in Japan that theorically could be "mainstream" (besides 3DS), allowing developers to release a good amount of content also in the West, but currently there's nothing like that. I mean, Western sales are great (and even in the case they slow down in the future due to having reached the majority of the current possible audience at 399.99, they'd be good at least...then, price cuts will come, and things will go on well at least for the console: I'm much more worried about One, but that's another topic), but Japanese ones seem to be starting even lower (sales after first week, obviously) than many here expected, than I expected. And don't let me even talk about the current support / announced games, with the big ones being too distant. I'm worried about PS4 in Japan, and, as I said, even if this is the first year and next year things will be better for sure, things shouldn't stay that long in this state, otherwise 2015 as well could be affected (sales wise, development wise, etc.etc.). Hopefully, I'm just too pessimistic and things will improve by themselves.

Sorry if I exaggerated with my concerns about the console, I'll do my best to contain it and be less "obsessive".

I don't think there's anything wrong with general discussion of the system, its merits for the Japanese market, its launch performance, and so on and so forth.

It's obviously the main sales news of the day/week/month.

I don't really think we need to know every few hours whether Yodabashi is completely in or out of stock.

We'll get a new fresh set of MC and Famitsu data in less than 24 hours. And presumably one or both trackers will comment on stock situations at a more national level.

I don´t think you should take the blame. Without your posts in this thread you get the impression that PS4 is basically sold out in most shops, so it´s nice to have at least some information from retailers that actually make their information public.

I don't really think we need to know every few hours whether Yodabashi is completely in or out of stock.

I think this is the outcome of the discussion about how much time was PS4 out of stock last week and when the basic SKU was actually available. And that was mostly based on the Yodabashi tracker.

I agree that maybe there is no need for daily/hourly update here, but it is nice that someone keeps track of it at list on daily basis to have some facts for tomorrow's thread. Even if that is not relevant for the situation in all the stores from all the retailers in Japan. Because we all know that the result will be again blamed on the unavailability (in case it is that bad).

You guys are exaggerating the importance of the JP market. As long as the PS4 is selling great in the west, big/med sized JP pubs will have no choice but to develop for the system.

No, you are exaggerating the importance of western market for small/medium and even some big sized JP pubs.

As far as I'm aware, although someone is free to correct, the solus system wasn't available in the last tracking period and thus Knack sell-through % essentially gave us system sell-through %.

Famitsu commented on there being some effect of supply constraint.
Media Create made note that there isn't anything similar to past PS(2) hardware launches happening, from memory.

They'll likely make some sort of comment again. And I doubt poor sales going forward can be attributed to supply (since we're probably going to be rapidly heading to the 10K watermark imo).

Something like a mainline Final Fantasy still takes a third or something of its sales from Japan. I think other "big" franchises like Resident Evil and MGS are still quite reliant on the domestic market.

I think the impact will be more on Japan-centric console franchises, that have a very limited market outside. The likes of Yakuza and Tales. The former went cross-gen, the latter is sticking with PS3 for now. Poor PS4 sales will likely see this continue, which will then probably lead to further poor PS4 sales.

Western publishers seem more willing to take a punt on the new hardware - see Arkham Knight.

? Most of the people here are "obsessed" with PS4 sales. I don't understand, sorry.

I don't see so many users watching every couple of hours amazon or yodobashi sites and reporting here the situation as mpl90 is doing.
I mean, it's ok to have these kinds of reports, but every 1-2 hours is it a worth ?

Second, comgnet weekly chart is not representative for the whole japanese market, as posted every week by aquamarine (correct me if I am wrong) Comgnet is just a little more than a dozen shops in Niigata prefecture, Tsutaya covers most prefectures with more than thousand shops nationwide.
So why give prominence to Comgnet chart ?

And about the lack of PS4 games... should I have to remember how many games had PS2 at launch ? people playing Fantavision or watching Matrix on dvd and waiting for future releases.
Every system made by Sony had a slow start (I mean games, but except for PS2, hardware too), PS4 had an orrible line-up at launch in Japan, most of its games were from wester publishers and despite this it's selling well, or at least much better than PS3 did back in the day.

mpl90 everyweek does a great work in sales-age topics, but recently he started caring too much about PS4 situation

Now I hope you can understand better what I was talking about.

I thougt Tsutaya was ~700 stores?

I don't think anyone gives preference to Comgnet over it anyway really. The archive just makes relative series/franchise comparisons handier for Comg.

That the PS4 just launched is only a part of why I find it especially interesting to follow it in Japan.

It's the only console atm which we genuinly don't know will be a big hit or a failure.

Wii U will continue to be dead here as everywhere else

Vita will continue to be slightly less dead here than everwhere else

XB1 - lol

3DS has done a relatively good job in the post-mobile/tablet world of handheld gaming and is now reaching natural old age and decline

Fascinating how a major console that launched 2 weeks ago suddenly is not important enough to be checking its store availability every day in a sales-age thread, but hey who cares rite?. I mean sure Tsutaya/Comgnet/Amazon watch get annoying in the middle of the year, but not when a major console lauches, come on.

I'm questioning the accuracy of Yodobashi's status page, not your anecdotal posts.

Yodobashi says Youkai Watch is sold out: http://www.yodobashi.com/ec/product/stock/100000001001742091/index.html

True or false?

Wouldn't surprise me if it was : game is also sold-out at Amazon. I'm really excited for this series, it seems to be doing wonderfully in Japan. It's nice to finally see something from Level-5 not bombing or getting lukewarm sales.

Anyway, can't wait for Week 10 numbers. Guess we can expect a drop in Week 11.

Hey, you didn't answer my question, did you miss it?

Among them, only Mario Party is already in Comgnet top 20.

[WII] Mario Party 8 - < 52pt
[NDS] Mario Party DS - 43pt
[WII] Mario Party 9 - 53pt
[3DS] Mario Party: Island Tour - 48pt

Ah, thanks a lot. Guess IT will do pretty much as well as the previous games. I believe MP9 did 100k on W1, right? Curious to see what kind of impact it's going to have on 3DS sales (not much). And cool to see it's doing better than the DS game (but it sold 230k on Week 1... wow).

Edit : no other 3DS (Wii U.... nah, ha ha) game in the Top 20? :)

Once again, thanks a lot for posting those numbers regularly!

I didn't mean to single out Mpl90 like that and then make it continued after I made my post. Sorry about that.

Naah, I've been a bit too obsessive recently, you're right. Don't worry, I'm just gonna force you to play Nintendogs Benny for 72 hours consecutively. /j

Honestly it doesn't deserve to sell yet until some big games come out on it. Surprised it has done so well worldwide. Not bashing it will be a good system.....there just is not a compelling reason to pick one up now honestly. Software lineups at launches are usually bad but they seem to be getting worse.

And even i am moderately surprised
didn't get to aki yodo today, but no real shortage of Yokai Watch. 4280 yen too (new)

will check yodo shinjuku later

"Doesn't deserve"?.
It's even more interesting when and why it sells without major (japanese) software. People buy stuff in anticipation or just to have new shiny gear. Or it's maybe the last protesting of the dying home console market.

I don't think this is true for Japan, and I doubt this will be true for the rest of the world once the big hitters are being launched.
The WiiU did much better than expected numbers during the past Christmas (yeah, I remember that doing better than the equivalent Christmas for the GC on Japan became suddenly expected after the console sold 100K+ in one week) and Nintendo franchises are stronger now than they ever were back on the GC.

The console is selling low because it's catalogue is basically niche titles + platformers. It lacks diversification with big names of other genres, and that problem will be solved this year from the release of MK8 onwards.

When I didn't know MK8 would launch at May 30 and expected it to launch around March I made the claim that WiiU would never go lower than 5000 a week. With MK launching so late it could be possible for it to fall beyond that number, but I sincerely don't think this will happen once the games are released.

Nintendo is clearly betting it all on that second year of the console. I expect them, like they on the past year, to start releasing games at a pace of 1 title per month. It's just that this time they will start on May instead of July and they will have much bigger names of more varied genres to fill the gaps.

Mario Kart on May, Bayonetta 2 / Hyrule Warriors during summer/september, Smash Bros on October/November and X on december. If they could also release games such as FExSMT and another HD Remake like Wind Waker before the end of the year, coupled with the few 3rd party titles that are still released for the console like Project Cars (racing simulators have a market in Japan), I could see the WiiU selling much better than the GC, and even than the PS4 this year.

Word.

As you sais, at least it is not off-topic or the same old jokes we read every week in every single MC thread.

Also, the console just launched. I see no problems with it.

If Wii U achieves 5000k in a single week ever, I'll claim it's going to be the most sucesful system in Japan ever.

Haha no way man, the unbeatable combination of the games coming will rocket sales to at least 5000k each week, never to drop under. It will set the record for most consoles ever sold in under 30 weeks at this stratospheric rate!
