In this thread I had mentioned 3 times not to use Direct. It's the worst possible setting. You want to setthe receiver to its Audyssey setting programmed through your Mic .

Ah, well my mic sets the speakers levels but there doesn't seem to be a "mode" when selecting audio mode for it. I ended up just putting it back on DTS.

I'm extremely insecure with how much f2p mobile games are encroaching on Nintendo
I have a Samsung 60" LED TV and I tried switching my HDMI1 input which is what my PS3 is connected to to PC and it does look a lot better. I tried doing this on my HDMI2 and HDMI3 (cause my PS4 and Wii U are connected to those) but it did nothing. How can I get the other inputs to look like the first input?

Can you "label" the inputs "PC" then put it in game-mode.

LG is similar to samsung in that respect I believe, on mine HDMI Port 4 is the "main" PC HDMI port, even though you can label them all "PC"... Port 4 for me (possibly 1 for samsung) is faster than the rest, labeled on the physical port also in text. Dont know why

I find these extremely useful when calibrating Black levels (brightness) and white levels (contrast)

If you use PS4 RGB limited > TV low be sure Levels 16-235 are black 16 and below, White 235+

If you use PS4 RGB Full > TV High ensure 0-255 are Black with a proper gradient, same for white levels

Some of the images are more useful for Limited or Full, but all useful in general.

On LG LW4500, you need to set the input to PC. The "game" mode doesn't do shit except to disable some image processing with no benefit to input lag. Tried and tested. You need to set the input to PC and you're done.

I do both.

1) Put HDMI cable into physically labeled "PC" HDMI port (look at rear tv ports) > Label input "PC" > AvMode set to "Game"

2)Set PS4 to RGB "Full" > TV to Black Level "High"

3) Calibrate TV's Brightness (Black level)/Contrast (white level) by opening PS4 browser > navigate to this thread > adjusting settings using Calibration images > Enjoy.

It possibly kills some of the blacks/washes it out. On my tv to nearly exempt the backlight I need to go aslow as 33/100 (thats for a dark game, can compromise and increase if your playing a game with plenty of daylight/outdoor stuff and raise it - each tv is different regarding that), But I use 56-60 + Auto dimming, Auto dimming turns off the backlight in dark areas, its bliss :)

On the manual there are black settings that says it adjusts the overal brightness, it has various settings. There also seems to be a PC-Mode. It also seems to have a version of auto dimming, Full array (which is better than edge lit) "active LED zones" which would possibly help with backlighting not washing out dark pictures. I would try the below settings on the vizio. I dont recognize their options that would make sense on the Sony/Samsung/LG etc but im no expert.

Says it has a game mode, a pc mode and good gaming input lag (or lack of lag)

Try PC mode on TV with RGB Full on PS4 - then check out those black test patterns and make sure you can see all blacks (its not crushed/too dark) and its not washed out!

Are you in a light flooded room? If so then it's fine. If you are in a relatively dark room you should put on some sunglasses because it might damage your eyes.

I never turn on a light if I game. Backlight can go up to 20 on my TV, so I'm guessing I should tune it down to 6 or so?

Maybe someone can explain this one to me. I've had this LG 42LH30 since 2009 and it's an incredibly reliable LCD set that I've been happy with for years. I've always had it calibrated using Game mode as a base with every advanced feature and image "enhancement" set to off, with the correct black levels depending on my source. It does have custom input labels and there is an option to change it to PC which turns off and disables all advanced settings from being used, but it looks a bit off, even when using the exact same settings as my previously calibrated Game mode. It's the sharpness on PC mode that's wonky. Sharpness on this TV is completely off/neutral at 50, I've tested this with common sharpness calibration pattern. On Game mode, sharpness at 50, the blocks blend together as intended when viewed from a distance. Even a single digit higher or lower makes the blocks distinguishable. But PC mode seems to oversharpen the image because no matter what sharpness setting I use the blocks are distinguishable. So I've resigned to using my calibrated Game mode, but with recommendations for PC mode everywhere in this thread, I was wondering if anyone else's TV was like this?

Curious when some of you say "game mode"...

You can rename your inputs to PC/Game/"tons of other names". You then can also change your picture mode - movie/standard/dynamic or go into your settings and change it to game mode, which grays out the movie/standard/dynamic. So was wondering which mode you were talking about?

I have some huge OCD with getting the best possible picture I can. So looking for help!!

I have this tv: PN60F5300AFXZA, Its a Samsung 60" plasma. I did go to this site and use the calibration settings but PS4 still isn't giving me that "wow" factor.

I have:

Xbox One to HMDI to HDMI1input [cable from wall to X1 xfinity box, HDMI to Xbox One]
PS4 to HMDI to HDMI2input

^^ Not sure if it matters which is my HDMI1 and which is HDMI2? I would think I can set each input exactly the same if I'd like. Also the who RGB Range and Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr Range confuse the hell out of me and what I should have them set as. I don't see any settings or options directly named this on my Samsung tv?

Anyone with solid knowledge care to help me try to get the best possible picture possible?


*Worth noting I love blu-rays, and my cable goes through my xbox like noted above, not sure if that puts a wrench in things even more or not.

Normally every game has one of those things where they say "adjust the slider until the picture on the left is visible, but the picture on the right isn't". Every single time, and I mean every single time, with every game, the only way I can achieve true invisibility of the image that's supposed to be invisible is to set the slider all the way to off. This seems a little weird, does it mean I'm doing something wrong or my TV isn't calibrated correctly?

That sounds like the brightness on your tv is set too high.

When I first got my TV I found AVForums to be a pretty good place to get a lot of good calibration suggestions for a variety of tvs. This is the link to what I used for my Samsung LN-XXA550. I just copied all the numbers off the most popular calibration post and everything looks great. All of those calibration pictures still show no need to calibrate further. They seem to do them for a bunch of popular tv models too.

Thanks for this thread, OP! The TV for my 360 looks fantastic now!

But maybe it could be even better?

I have a Panasonic TC-L32C3 Viera LCD (not sure where the description becomes redundant.) I cant seem to find a way to change the name of the input to PC, but here is a PC input. So I got a VGA cable hooked into that. This let me be able to adjust the the display mode of the 360 to 1360x768 and I adjust the input resolution on the TV to 1366x768. And other than a little corruption at the bottom of the screen (that will go away if i turn the TV on first) it fits very well and looks great.

But I notice something on the TV. When the TV and 360 are on these settings, the frequency reads:
H-frequency 47.7 khz
V-frequency 59.9 HZ

Now, if i change the 360's resolution to 1280×1024, it still fits great and I don't have to change the input resolution on the TV because there are no longer options. Also, the frequency reads:
H-frequency 60 khz
V-frequency 60.7 HZ

Or, I could just set both the TV and 360 to 1280x768 at
H-frequency 47.7 khz
V-frequency 59.9 HZ
and no muss no fuss.

What do you think is the best way to go from here? Because everything you recommended has done wonders for my image.

Does anyone know how I could turn off the "Overscan" function on my Orion 19-inch television? For some reason, when I'm playing my PS4...a significant portion of the screen gets cut off whenever I play select games in HD (not in 480p, which works fine)? Google tells me this is most likely because my television is in "Overscan Mode" but I can't find a way to turn it off on my TV.

Sorry to bump an old thread, I'm just asking here out of sheer desperation. Bought a copy of No Man's Sky this morning but my TV is just cutting off too much off the screen for me to play it properly. If anyone CAN help me, they may choose to wed one of my nine most beautiful daughters, in addition to a payment of up to one million Republic Credits to the bank account of their choosing.

Probably called something like aspect, picture mode,etc. Will have options like zoom, wide, 16:9, full, just scan, etc. Under it. Try each one usually full, 1:1,or just scan represents the pixel perfect mode with no overscan.
