Valve adds an option to report games for violations (legal violation, harmful, etc.)

Valve also added the possibility to report a product on its store page for reasons shown in the picture below.

According to @SteamDatabase: https://twitter.com/SteamDB/status/443890995219152898

If you go to http://store.steampowered.com/app/251570/ and click on the lfag then it'll bring up the options.

I guess this will be helpful for the custom storefronts that Valve wants to release in the future.

One step closer to Steam being fully open. I guess this is how they will combat "games" that are just viruses, etc.

Seems like a good idea. It's almost never a bad thing to open more channels of communication like this.

Also, I predict people getting offended at there being an "offensive" option and not realizing the irony.

For some reason I thought Valve allowed AO games on Steam, guess I was wrong.

I hope there is systems in place to prevent games being removed due to mass flaggings from places like Reddit and 4chan.

For as much of a shitstorm that this is gonna be... I'm keeping an eye on Go! Go! Nippon! to see if this stuff actually goes through.

The only thing that pile of shit taught me was :

ITADAKIMASU~~!

And then instantly greeted me with child porn with a girl who was "just getting to that age".
GG. GG.

The only ones that should really matter should be legal violation, harmful, child exploitation, hate speech, defamatory, fraud really.

Stuff like porn should be covered by a suitable rating whilst offensive is far too subjective and far too ambiguous to warrant a response by Steam.

They allow unrated games and content, some of which would probably be AO if the ESRB actually did rate it. They have some of their own internal rules and standards, though, so it's not a complete free for all.

Wait, how is this futuristic custom storefront thing supposed to work? I heard about it briefly before, but now that they're making strides towards it, what's the end goal? What will it look like?

Probably a miniature version of the main store, but linked from a user's profile and listing stuff they've put up for sale themselves. Gabe also mentioned the idea of listing normal Steam games and getting paid a small commission when people buy stuff through your store page, e.g. I do streams or LPs of a certain game that people show interest in and buy as a result, so I get a cut of those sales.

Like what?

Postal 2 with all the new digital only expansions, certain blood/gore DLC for existing games. Just spitballing, I'm not actually sure about any of that.

I'm being hyperbolic but you walk in on a girl just leaving the shower and really the only thing covered is her hair and maybe her nips?I immediately alt+F4'd outta the game when I saw it though, maybe there's pic out there somewhere.

I mean, sure there is no actual Henati but they're fucking just hitting puberty according to the horribly written text.

I paid good money for this Dynex!

She covered her hair? Sounds kinda hot.

Oh wow ... Ya kinda fucked up I'd say.

the parameters for these kinds of violations are interesting because of the paradoxical nature of games as artistic products.

While I am of the opinion that games are art, I don't really see anything contradictory in Valve having rules for what they will and won't sell with Steam.

ESRB to enforce hair coverings in games.

No but seriously though, I don't wanna see anything close to nudes when we're dealing with like 12 year olds. I'm not sure if they're full nudes in the game though because, why the hell would I play through that? Doesn't seem like it though due to the ESRB rating. Didn't expect it from a game that takes you on a "tour around Japan."

That sure as hell doesn't look like the body of a 12 year old. Gat Dayum.

Yeah, I'm hoping other people test all those other "games" for me first before I happen to download one. :p

Maybe Valve will use something like that website that scans with a bunch of different antivirus programs, but still, that wouldn't catch something like a program that erases everything it has access to on your hard drive.

game creation does require, if not artistic, then at least some level of creative dimension, but obviously they still need to appeal to the market.

When does art turn into pornography?
When does iconoclastic become offensive?
Would the videogame equivalent of The Heart of Darkness be considered hatespeech?

Steam is in the crazy position of needing to approach these questions as both a curator and a business. I think it's fascinating.

Oh I agree that they're really hard choices to make. I just thought you were saying that Valve should have no restrictions whatsoever, when that would potentially open them up to legal or civil troubles. Some of these report categories seem to be there primarily for that purpose.

I dunno, kind of dumb, could be alright. Will be abused.

Yeah, there are a few sex scenes in it, too. You should ask Valve to delete it for child exploitation and pornography.

What fucked up version of the game were you playing? Because that sure isn't child porn.
