Because they're going to want to keep the cost of entry as low as possible. Nintendo have always made weak handhelds, and now more than ever they need to pinch every penny they can.

At or around Vita specs is what I expect. With the cheapest, nastiest screen they can find.

Can't remember who it was but one of the guys from here who has a lot of tech knowledge said that by late 2015, Nintendo could build an incredibly cheap handheld which was at least 4x the Vita's GPU performance for around the $199 mark because of the sheer pace mobile chips are advancing in terms of power, size and low cost.

If the next Nintendo handheld is going to use the same architecture as the next home console (which has been hinted at several times by Iwata) then you would have to think it will be something extremely beefy, at least in comparison to the 3DS.

I do agree with you though in that they will ruin it by using an incredibly cheap and nasty screen. I love Nintendo games but I can't take the 3DS screen, it's beyond a joke for 2012 nevermind 2014...

Anyone think that in light of the recent poor 3DS sales even in Japan we might actually get a shock and see the new handheld at this years E3 with it launching in Spring 2015 which would make 3DS a four year cycle instead of the usual five ?.

The reason 3DS so weak spec-wise was to compromise 3D technology and keep it at acceptable price. If they ditch out any gimmicky technology for their later handhelds, it could at least have much more respectable power, stronger than Vita with same price, if not lower.

PS4 Numbers will be better next week than vita and 3ds. Ground Zeroes =small boost to sales.(I hope)

But doesn't Ground Zeroes come out on 3/20 in Japan?

If that's true, then no, we won't see better PS4 numbers next week, but perhaps the week after that. Next week, we'll see the numbers for 3/10 through 3/16, if I'm not mistaken?

MCV have a partnership with Famitsu and say this:
PlayStation 4 is still the best-selling games console in Japan.

Information supplied to MCV from Famitsu shows that the hardware's install base now stands at 405,546 units strong three weeks since it launched.

The hardware is so popular that most stores are now starting to run out of stock and the console’s Knack bundle is nearly sold out.
Huh? I don't think it is a partnership. That information is available to the public. It is in the OP.

Nope, MCV listed sales for Vita TV and 3DS LL separately, which are not public, only available to subscribers:

1. PS4 – 30,766
2. PS Vita – 29,374
3. Nintendo 3DS LL – 21,580
4. PS3 – 10,772
5. Nintendo 3DS – 9,336
6. Wii U – 8,128
7. PSP – 2,989
8. PS Vita TV – 1,335
9. Xbox360 – 206

But it is hard to know if the part about PS4 still being with supply problems is referring to this week or not.

I will get the game. My girlfriend wants it and it must be fun. It will be the first jd i will play on the u, so i dont know if those gamepad additions were from the western version, but i found them to be good. Dont know why theres no asshole options for control using the gamepad though.

No, you don't seem to understand what you want to show.
Xillia sold 670k and Xillia 2 450k, it's not in your weird standards.

I'm talking about mainline only. Same for Yakuza.

No, Namco only differentiates between Tales as being "mothership" or "escort" titles. TOX2 is as much a mainline Tales as TOX is.

Only one Tales was a PS3 exclusive mainline title and what a surprise it sold really well. Try using some context next time.

It probably is. It'll probably level out to around 60,000 - 70,000 per week.
Its already at 35k, supply isn't a big issue like many people are making it out to be, how do you think it'll get back to 60k-70k?

TOX2 is definitely mainline.

Why do you think being PS3 exclusive makes Tales sell well? Graces was released on Wii and still sold well on the PS3, exclusivity doesn't change things much.

How is it that supply is an issue everywhere else, but not for Japan? I highly doubt Sony is flooding Japan with PS4s when it's obvious they've been gunning for the West this entire time.

There's also this:

http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/ps4-tops-japanese-hardware-charts-for-second-week/0129448

And the PS3 sold horribly the first month and rebounded back to about 70,000 a week the next month, before falling even worse the next month. I think the PS4 looks to be more successful than the PS3, so I do think it'll do high numbers for a month or two once supplies get better before falling back to something around 30,000-40,000 a week, possibly higher if it gains enough momentum.

The PS3 sold 88,000 in opening week due to basically no extra supply, ofcourse it was going to rebound somewhat. I don't see the PS4 rebounding until much later, if ever. There's no way it won't go lower than it is already in the coming weeks. I'm not even sure your figures are correct? And even if they are did you note that PS3's second month was December?

For the sake of the orphans in Syria I hope it reaches that number.

I feel bad now for making such an offer, because the chance of the condition being fulfilled is pretty much 0. Even when it doesn't reach that number I may chip in $5 or so, because it seems like a good cause.

It's 2:00 AM here so there's a good chance my projection is way off, but the ranges I gave for the PS3 were correct.

Man, stop making excuses :p First you don't count Re-releases when someone told you that Yakuza sold better on PS2 than PS3 but later you counted MGS4 re-release to make a point of being "near 1 million" and now ToX2 is not a mainline game (but ToD 2 is) because it doesn't fit your criteria?

And to top it all you're calling silly and laughing at everyones explanation... it's time to give it some rest, trust me ;D

I don't get the doom&gllom about PS4.
it's selling as the market leader (3DS). yeah, it's almost a brand new system, but without many exclusive itneresting games, so the two aspects are balancing themselves, so we can see as the PS4 sold a good amount of HW pieces in a normal week of a normal months in a market (Japanese one) that is obviously not on fire.

It's not an issue in Japan because there's no real system seller pushing the system beside the hardware appeal itself which is an extension of future games, but that will only get you so far until the games actually come out, that's not the case in the west where multiplatform games with better graphics is a better sell.

As has been pointed out, PS3's second month was a holiday month and initial launch demand probably wasn't fulfilled with the low first shipment, that's not the case with the PS4 where the shipment was much higher.

PS4 will be lucky if it sells 20k a week for the foreseeable future until the third party games come, look at the 3DS and Vita, although their situations are quite different in many regards, both are struggling to sell past the 30k mark and Japan is handheld land. I'm surprised the Wii U isn't under 5k by now.

I think we're at a point now where people already know what type of games to expect from each console, so market position won't change and hardware sales will be modest from now on. Only question that's left is will PS4 stabilize at a decent number weekly, or will it decline quickly and re-bounce once the big games come.

Jamix loves saying that kind of shit and making bets but never actually pays up when he's wrong so it's irrelevant anyway
Examples?

You missed the point Chris was making there. No PS3 Tales sold between 500-600k, so your arbitrary range made no sense.

Two were. You keep wanting to dissmiss TOX2 but you really can't. lol context.

Combining all platforms TOV and TOG would also be over 500k each though.

Dragonsworne has left the building, we don't need a replacement.

Media Create explained stock situation for PS4's week 2 and week 3 results confirmed that theory. We had many apologists last week that suddenly disappeared.

And even i am moderately surprised
checking in with my super unscientific feedback!

PS4s everywhere - strangely Sofmap are pushing a BUT WE HAVE SECOND HAND FIRST RELEASE PACKS! campaign.

PS4 not exactly flying off the shelves right now - but there's currently no shortage of stock.

And just because a couple of utter mongberts raised it -

- in the last few weeks - stock WAS low
- this isn't an indication of demand - i pointed it out because STOCKS WERE LOW
- pointing out that the PS4 only sold 30k this week doesn't support the argument that THERE WAS STOCK, unless you buy into the "LYING SCUM/PS4 BOMBA!" team
- THIS WEEK, there is no doubt that Stock is plentiful and demand does not look particularly hungry

i would guess... 25k? maybe even lower?

Media Create explained stock situation for PS4's week 2 and week 3 results confirmed that theory.

wait - can you clarify what you mean here because ... yeah... what exactly did MC confirm?

I have seen this posted elsewhere - that a 30k sales proved that there was plentiful supply which is baffling. Again, bear in mind i am apparently the Sony Hater of Yore! and i -absolutely- agree that demand is low but for the first two weeks stock was absolutely constrained.

I think it's reasonable to assume PS4 stock was having problems, considering how hard it is to get around the world at the moment. When presented with evidence to the contrary, one should obviously understand that and adapt their posts accordingly.

Either way you really are quite abrasive and unfriendly. Not just talking about the above post, just a pattern. I think people appreciate all the work you do in these threads but not sure why you feel it gives you the right to be nasty to people who are just wrong. Being wrong is actually helpful in these threads, it keeps them from getting too insular and makes people explain why they're wrong which helps other people like myself learn why.

You know Japanese and it was already posted, I don't mean anything.

http://www.m-create.com/ranking/

thanks
but yes :

販売店へのヒアリングによると、極端な品薄状態には陥っておらず、過去のPSフォーマットと比較すると供給は安定している模様

For the second half i entirely agree - but for the first part i'd disagree on my (ADMITTEDLY LIMITED) Aki, shibuya, shijuku experience. Though as i have already said this was only for week 2 and a bit of week 3 - there is -absolutely- no shortage right now, without a doubt.

You don't hang out in many of these sales threads do you.

So has there been NO sensationalized reports of couples having sex on the Playroom in Japan? No uncensored genetalia on Niconico or anything?

Because I feel that is what drives the insane PS4 sales in the US and Europe. If Japan hops on board then we will see a revival of home consoles.

Expect 20k next week for PS4.

Well, the last PS3 Tales did under 500k. I guess it's off your pretty big list now.

Namco sold (shipped?) 500k of Xillia 2 since March of last year:

http://www.bandainamco.co.jp/files/620EFBC88E88BB1EFBC89E8A39CE8B6B3E8B387E69699.pdf

They expected 650k though.

I'm sure mixed reception of Xillia 1 impacted Xillia 2, but I think Xillia 1 still got a boost from being the first exclusive Tales for PS3. We can only speculate though.

Also, Psycho, Xillia 2 is a mothership (mainline) title. It's not an escort title like Dawn of the New World.

What the fuck, no need to call me out on things I don't do. First off, I don't often make such bets and secondly I've only lost once. When I lost the person I lost to insisted that I don't change my avatar (as that was the bet) despite me offering too. Please don't accuse me of shit I don't do, I'm true to my word. If it does hit 55,000 average per week over an 8 week period then I will pay up.

False accusations against other members are at least frowned upon, I'd ask that you either get evidence or remove this comment. You probs won't get banned if you don't obviously, but I'd ask kindly you remove it. Unless you do actually have evidence?
