NPD Sales Results for February 2014 [Up2: PS4/XB1/Wii U/360 Hardware, BD/Poke/DK]

Manabyte's twitter meltdown is a sight to behold. He says NPD's don't matter because it's US only, says that Amazon charts are all that matter, says that Gamestop's layaway program goosed X1 sales, and insists that Infamous will outsell Titanfall by a significant margin (it will be successful, but Titanfall will sell more, IMHO.)

Oh, and he firmly believes that MS will sell the Xbox division to Amazon any moment now.

He's making PS4 partisans look horrible, and that's an understatement.

That's just dumb. Why do we give this guy attention, again?

I missed the Cosmic Cheesiest post with cup half empty ^^u

lol yep ppl were thinking 12K for a while, not that 24K isn't death rattle numbers

lol I'll have to look later than. Sounds like the PS equivalent of Tim Dog

But they give out multiple free games each month for the year with a $50 (price?) PS+ subscription. Some of the games they give away are $50 on their own. I don't see how that once a year payment can subsidize the cost of all that.

They've been doing it for almost 4 years now. I think they know what they're doing lol

They've also shut down several studios, sold off a couple hardware divisions, and sold their corporate headquarters.

I'm not saying their all tangentially related, I would just like to understand the buisness end a little better. "Lol they've done it for years" means nothing.

I'm on my phone so forgive the short response.

1. I never said NPDs didn't matter. Someone asked me if NPDs were WW and I replied they were NA only.
2. The layaway program WAS meant to help sales. Just like the free game offers at Wal-Mart and Target.
3. I don't remember tweeting that inFamous will outsell Titanfall, but it probably will.
4. When did I block you on Twitter to make you make such a BS post about me here.

Why on earth would a major corporation keep something like IGC if it was bleeding them money? That was my point of the 4 years comment. They would clearly have ended it long ago if it was hurting them like any company would.

The economics of such a deal are fairly simple, Sony negotiates a set price deal for access to the license for their PS+ subscribers of somewhat older games whose sales are slowing. Publishers get some guaranteed money while also building mindshare with Sony and more importantly with gamers. This industry is run on sequels, getting the first game for PS+ that you weren't willing to buy originally might get you to buy the sequel. That's the long-term benefit

Short-term benefits would be upselling DLC to these subscribers as all these AAA games have nowadays.

The better question is less how is sony able to do this but how is MS not able to compete? Surely they could simply get the same deals with publishers? It makes no sense to me that they aren't willing to pay out the money to actually give gold some value for once.

Was those layaway program sales counted in Feb NPD?

And twinturbo2 can back up what you're saying with actual tweets from manabyte?

Sony's TV and Vaio divisions have nothing to do with their PlayStation division. Last time I checked, Sony's PlayStation, music, and movie businesses were doing fine while the other two were bleeding money.

Plus was more likely than not losing them money at the outset, but it was supposed to build goodwill towards customers after the PS3's slow start. I'd bet it's at least even or even profitable now that multiplayer is required. The number of subscriptions has shot up exponentially since then.

If we're talking infamous (PS4) VS Titanfall (X1) then it might have a chance.
MIGHT.

Oh ya, Manabyte was one of the first to leak CoD Ghosts on the X1 being 720p.

Titanfall is on more platforms, so its pretty much a given that it'll sell more. Infamous might win on a single sku basis, but I honestly have no idea how many units Infamous will sell.

To put things into perspective: MS sold roughly 1 million copies of Gears of War in november 2006 to a userbase of 3.4 million 360 owners (NPD numbers).

Titanfall is going to help Xbox One, but it's not going to set the world on fire.

Edit: Wrong thread. Delete this post.

^lol @ senju arguing with manabyte on twitter and Senju being the reasonable one to boot

Wow that's pretty amazing. I forget how well the first Gears did in its launch month

TF won't do gears number on XB1 but it will do very very well. Can even see TF XB1>Infamous depending

You seem to think that because Microsoft has a buttload of money, that they're immune to failure.

That's a good explanation.

Have you read that Gamasutra article on PS+? I don't think everyone, being developers, wants ps+ because it creates the expectation that if I wait long enough it will eventually be available for ps+ and I won't have to pay for it. I wonder if that's stymied xbox's decision to follow suit with a similar program.

He's.still crazy.

TF will likely do 1million on XO is what I also believe but not in its first month... maybe in early April
This is what we know so far with TF sales
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=784950
we'd have to know how much of the XO userbase ~3.5/4 million (tales from my ass) will buy TF to begin with

*Note: He never addressed the TF sales numbers either but rather inFamous will outsell the XO version of TF.... and in the end of the day it all goes done to are opinions not being facts

That point of view [from gamasutra] makes sense from a publishers point of view but MS wouldn't be affected by it. Besides that effect [wait until its cheap or free] is far far more prevalent with steam and steam sales/humble bundles for PC as there are a lot of posters here who have pretty much said they don't buy PC games for more than $30 some less than that. And yet steam sales and humble bundles continue so I guess publishers are learning to live with lowering their games value 3 months or so after launch? I don't know it'd be interesting to get a aggregated view on

Asteroids can also hit the earth.

Asteroids hit earth about 5 - 10 times a year at least

https://www.bostonglobe.com/news/wo...trike-earth/VTOqWEKzwjHwnTDTSmfSCJ/story.html

Experts say smaller strikes happen five to 10 times a year. Large impacts such as the one Friday in Russia are rarer but still occur about every five years, according to Addi Bischoff, a mineralogist at the University of Muenster in Germany. Most of these strikes happen in uninhabited areas where they don’t injure humans.

People are going to go crazy either way. Just sit back and enjoy the show.

Yep regardless of what happens there will be meltdowns. That's what's going to be so good about March NPD. Sony wins? meltdowns. MS wins? meltdowns. Infamous wins against the XBO sku of TF? meltdowns. Doubt there'd be meltdowns if/when infamous sells less than TF XBO sku though

Wait.. so I've read all the pages of the thread, just now.

Is sony ...doomed?

DOOOOOOOOMED!!!!!

KZ SF currently is the leading exclusive in sales number with over 2.1million (this is noting that it also came with the bundle)

inFamous SS also has a bundle addition

I don't see how this is rare

Hmmmm:
KZ has a bundle
Titanfall has a bundle
Infamous has a bundle
Forza has a bundle
Fifa has a bundle
COD has a bundle
Knack has a bundle
MGS5 has a bundle
So rare!
