EA’s ‘Titanfall’ lands at No1 on Xbox One and PC becoming the big release of 2014 so far.

It also means EA now hold the two leading No1 titles by sales for the year. Titanfall more than doubles the sales of what had been 2014’s current leader FIFA 14, which until now had delivered the highest sales for an All Formats No1 back in Week 1 of this year. Titanfall also gives a collossal boost to Xbox One hardware sales with a huge jump of over 96% thanks largely to the new Titanfall bundle (including a download token of the game) accounting for over 70% of all Xbox One hardware sold this week. The new IP is a welcome sight with EA’s last No1 title that wasn’t a FIFA stretching back more than a year when Crysis 3 held the crown in the first week of March 2013.

There’s a debut for Bandai Namco’s ‘Dark Souls II’ which has to settle for No2 in its first week. The sequel to the original Dark Souls which was released in Week 40 2011 sees a 20% increase in week 1 sales over its predecessor while also debuting one position higher. The arrival of two new Top 10 titles means that ‘South Park: The Stick of Truth’ (-47%) is pushed down to No3 following its arrival last week. ‘The Lego Movie’ (-31%) holds its spot at No4 while Square Enix’s ‘Thief’ (-63%) slips three places to No5. ‘FIFA 14’ (-31%) which had never been out of the Top 5 since its launch last year finds itself at No6 this week ahead of ‘Plants Vs Zombies: Garden Warfare’ (-41%) at No7. ‘Call of Duty: Ghosts’ (-18%) is down two more places slipping to No8 ahead of Microsoft’s ‘Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition’ (-9%) at No9. ‘Battlefield 4’ (-29%) is at No10, which makes it four Top 10 titles for EA in the All Formats chart this week.

Outside the Top 10 there is a return for Yoshi in Nintendo’s ‘Yoshi’s New Island’ arriving for 3DS at No12. It’s the third biggest week 1 for a Yoshi title behind ‘Yoshi’s Island DS’ and ‘Yoshi’s Story 64’.

Great debut for TF. Seems to be quite a big systemseller. Almost 100% increase in HW is pretty huge.

Other XO games didn't seem to benefit from the HW increease, though.

I'm really excited to see what the actual numbers are for the XBone and Titanfall. Can't be better than #1 though.

Oh, wait. Didn't the XO also get a pricecut last week?

That would explain the bump. So it's not just Titanfall. PR gotta PR, I guess.

Typo?

Looks like PS4 received more stock with some of the games reappearing or moving up the charts.

Surely they would have enough for Friday around Europe with inFAMOUS releasing?

I was expecting more than a 20% increase for DS2 over the first game. Though the PC version may have eaten into those sales. Still, a strong start.

Would've liked to see Dark Souls II in the #1 spot, but following the months of hype it's no surprise to see Titanfall land there. I wonder how well the 360 version will sell.

Oh, wait. Didn't the XO also get a pricecut last week?

Yeah, it's had a large price drop recently. It was £380 on Zavvi the other day, including the Titanfall free code.

I think Namco were hoping for more than a 20% boost on DS1's first week tbh.

Infamous gets its own bundarus so more stock is guaranteed.

Yep. It's been constantly ahead of Xbox One on Amazon UK when it's come into stock (and sometimes when it's not - the console can be ordered alone for delivery on the 25th), and the Infamous bundle arrives on Friday.

TF above DSII? impressive.

The first Dark Souls sold 24-50k according to shinra-bansho's post in the old PAL Charts thread. And the sequel only saw a 20% increase over the original. I'm not particularly sure why people think that series is bigger than what it really is.

For one week its i dont think a massive boast.. Wander how much increase it will give to XBO baseline from next week, especially after PS4 supply getting better

I was secretly hoping for a return of Xenoblade owing to the Argos £15 deal but that can't even break top 10 on Wii... it must have been over a few hundred too...
Edut: WRONG it is a budget title!

Yeah but...
Just to put it in perspective.

Wind Waker gave the WiiU a 685% bump in UK and MGS4 on PS3 was 700% in Japan.

So i kind of agree with op, the bump isn't really that big.
Given it is a week on week improvement maybe there were big sales last week (was the price drop in effect) from people who bought via the US store (if you that into Titanfall you might well want to play it a few days earlier).

XB1 sales where pretty low to begin with, makes you wonder exactly what 100% increase means in relation to units sold.

Remember PS4 was outselling XB1 3:1 in the UK.

Is a 96% increase for one week enough?

What's more important for MS is if it can sustain these sales.

PS4 multiplats still holding up better on the week of Xbox One. Didn't see that coming. Figured Xbox One titles would see a bigger bump.

Mpl90

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Titanfall being 2x and more FIFA14 Week 1 = 125,000+ units between One and PC.

The Amiga Brotherhood
So TF sold... 2x Fifa2014 ytd or 2x Fifa2014 week 1 sales? It's a bit confusing, but seeing the installbase it must be the latter.

Larger install base and on two consoles? nope, still impressive.

doesn't mean squat really. DS2 could have been on every platform at half price and it still wouldnt have come close. A super hardcore rpg vs the big push that titanfall got. This was 150% expected

I think the series' renown at this point is more down to influence than pure selling power; hence why citing Dark Souls as an influence is almost a meme at this point. Besides, assuming a 20% increase in sales over the first game is widespread, we're still looking at almost 3 million sales in the first couple of years. Very respectable for what is quite a niche game at the end of the day.

It's undoubtedly impressive, but not that unusual bearing in mind software on newer consoles often sells well given the audience are chomping at the bit for new things to play.

Plus, as I said, Titanfall has had months upon months of hype while a game like Dark Souls gets a much more modest, muted marketing push. And Titanfall is a big release from one of the biggest publishers in the most popular genre. Not really unexpected overall.

I’m beginning to see the strategy behind the 360 delay of Titanfall now. If I was MS i would delay it some more and hope a few others jump on XB1.

Otherwise it could be a very short lived boost if people just decide to go for the 360 version instead.

Oh, I wasn't trying to downplay the sales. It's very impressive that a series that is a hardcore as the Souls games is picking up those sales. But I don't know why people think that it'd have a chance against a heavily hyped twitch shooter.

Are you sure to use the correct figure? It's double of FIFA14 figures for the first week of 2014. Not Launch week.

edit: I guess you do. I doubt something like FIFA would only sell 60k at launch.

I think I've resigned myself to the idea that the 360 version isn't going to be any good. MS was wise to hide it; it would kill hype, but not for the reasons that you listed.

Pretty nice sales for the XBO version, I really, really hope there aren't any stalwarts out there who still think the PC version is going to outsell the One version. Performance and graphics have never mattered for series that are clearly designed for consoles.

I don't necessarily think the PC version will be better selling, but UK physical retail isn't really any sign one way or the other. PC is the one platform where it's unwise to scoff at the "digital sales" argument.

Principate

Saint Titanfall
FIFA 14, which until now had delivered the highest sales for an All Formats No1 back in Week 1 of this year

What does this statement mean as it's vague as hell. Does this refer to just this year or several. Probably the former but this statement isn't clear.

Tinfoil hat mode! I smell flim-flammery!

It should be noted that Chart-Track doesn't track digital sales, but the company confirmed to Eurogamer this morning that sales of the download token from the Titanfall hardware bundle are included in its figures.

So Titanfall's DIGITAL sales got added to the physical chart! Most irregular!
