Can't wait for impressions. Not sure why people are worried what it looks like considering you're going to be using it in your own home and not going to be able to see yourself wearing it.

Jut hope it's comfortable. The HMZ made compromises for style purposes and ends up looking ridiculous when modded for comfort. Can't wait to hear some impressions soon.

Looks odd, but comfortable. The strap looks to lock under that bump on the back of your skull.

Can someone explain to me how something like this will ever be more than a niche product? There were massive complaints from people about having to wear 3D glasses but everyone is going to be fine with wearing a box on their heads?

Interesting, and while it is a step towards, I find it hard to care until it becomes something that will receive standardizes support. Otherwise, it's another underutilized peripheral.

I... I can't quite figure out the geometry of this thing from pictures. Is the white part a chin strap and the black part a headband?

Or are they just two separate headbands to distribute the weight?

Will the PS4 even be able to run this effectively? I know VR requires larger resolutions and higher frame rates.

This may be something that debuts with the PS5, or just select games on the PS4.

VR is way cooler than 3D. Still, it will probably be a niche product for the foreseeable future.

I'll wait for V.2

In all seriousness, am I the only one who thinks these VR headsets have little to no mass market appeal and will just end up in shopping malls?

And I'm still going to buy the damn thing.[/QUOTE]

It'll depend on the price and if there is compelling software. This thing needs a bundled killer app built from the ground up for it.

Think of it like the bottom half of a cap. That's what it looks like to me.

So you'll need a camera and move for this? No thanks
Not necessarily (we don't know yet), but they are caught between a rock and a hard place if you need another (even bundled) peripheral get optimal use out of this. Do you opt for freedom or force it to always be optimum?

I still don't think most people realize how big of a deal this is going to be.
Depends on the price. Assuming the quality is good and is at least on par with the rift, then the only question is who are they gearing this towards?
Based on what has been said you will need a ps camera for this to work. So what price point could Sony realistically sell this for? The headset and the camera for 300? Is that still too much for casual gamers to spend on a peripheral? Plus a move controller seems like it might be needed for certain games. I'm not sure what the production costs would be but I don't see these flying off the shelf of they are priced over 200. I'm in regardless.

Having experienced the Oculus I feel that while VR tech is cool in and of itself it feels like it's going to be relatively limited in effective ways of usage, so I'm rather skeptical to see where Sony is going to be headed with this thing or whether it will actually lead to anything significant.

Might be cool though.

I wonder what prompted them to announce so early... For developer support? Its like illumiroom all over again. Hope this makes it to market.

I have a problem with that. Because now funds are going to be allocated to VR projects instead of games optimized for televisions. And then dev cycles will take longer because they have to implement VR adequately.

Not thrilled.

It takes Sony studios like Evolution and Team Ico long enough to get their games out the door - but now they have to start working with two new pieces of tech simultaneous (PS4 + Morpheus)?

Jesus.

Sony really has the potential for something big. This could be the next Wii/Kinect like craze (and with the PS4 already selling at a record pace, this would take it further). But they really need to hit the mark, offer content and a good price that the market can accept (casual gamers).

Seriously, if they don't drop the ball this could be great.
