Gran Turismo 6 |OT| Moon Rover The Castle

Haven't played GT6 in the last few months but I'll try to check in.

Just a short question: Is a car with changed oil still considered "stock"?

...after some good racing.

New room = HARD LOCK AGAIN ON PS3

About time for me to call it a night anyway I suppose, good racing Mike, Cag, Mukka and Chris.

Pretty sure I'll be around Norante, I've been doing DIY most of the day so I think I've earnt some gaming time.

[EDIT - Anyone who is worried about joining these online rooms, don't be, I spin every race but still have fun]

Has PD said they've dropped support of GT6 to focus on GT7 yet? Because I think it's pretty obvious that's exactly what they did. No doubt due to under performing sales figures. They should really get on updating the official site, removing the promised feature list, as it's just plain false advertising at this point.

In less than 100 days from game's release it is still WIP regarding updates.

You are speculating, as well as majority around the web. Here is my answer on the same claim made at GTP.

GT6 will probably get a relaunch campaign once the Senna content is ready to be included and once the work on GPS Course Maker is done.

Official tagline of GT6 is "The World is Your Track" and it has obviously been crafted with GPS functionality in mind. All GT6-related materials on SCS Press site are talking about GPS Course Maker as GT6 main functionality and the functionality itself is listed on the official GT6 site as something that will come with the update.

In the same time GT6 V1.01 was released, the PS4 was released. PD delivered game on time, but with few key functionalities missing and obviously in development: we all saw the Course Maker track in Spain as fully fledged track, so we already know for at least one complete location. And we have no idea how many locations PD is planning.

Count into picture the work on GT PS4 engine (check GTP Jordan's entries on the Blog for insider details), as well as Polyphony's inevitable involvement into Project Morpheus development and both groups of modelers being busy about additional content they have to produce:

- car modellers: VGT models (at least 20 of them), possible new DLC models, probable some additional legacy models
- tracks/environmental modellers: Course Maker locations, PhotoMode locations, new tracks

Also take into account how Network group is working on Community features (they are all still part of the "coming with the update" section on the GT6 official pages) and how end of GT5 online support is scheduled for May.

My personal speculation is how PD/Sony decided to skip adding new features and significant content for GT6 until they finished work on all things they've planned to be included in the game: GPS Course Maker, Gran Turismo Mobile APP integrated with the GPS Course Maker / My GT section of the official web / Community portal, all Community and Quick Race functionalities, B-Spec mode, additional Special Events races (we have only Goodwood and Moon ATM), 3D support (and for that the graphics engine needs to be further optimized in order to stabilize on 60fps), VGT content, preparations for monthly DLC; etc.

Once they are done with everything, they will "release" GT6 again, as GT6 Spec 2.0 game as standalone BR release (and with whatever title) which will have all imagined functionalities, have servers free of GT5 online load and have Senna and probably some other content ready to be released.

Of course, one can say they have decided to save all of those for GT7 on PS4, but somehow I think they've just decided to prioritize their internal routines with limited manpower they have. We will know soon enough.

May or June is my own prediction for the "Spec 2.0" and it will also get a significant E3 time as the most important IP for PS3 in 2014/2015. Evident delay of DriveClub will probably result with DriveClub being SCE's most important first-party title for mid-2014 - probably re-revealed at E3 and scheduled for June - to gap the bridge until the Order. Also, having DriveClub being ready for Q32014 pushes GT7 to 2015 and gives Polyphony much time to work on PS4 version of the game.

With DriveClub in 2014 and pCARS scheduled for 2014, my personal speculation is that PD will maybe only produce GT Academy 2014 demo for PS4, although today I doubt even that. I see GT Academy 2014 being released in July 2014 as PS3 demo again, built on PS3 version of the game and with overall re-release in picture. LOng legs of such Spec 2.0 game will certainly provide it with desired sales, especially once Senna content becomes available and true marketing push begins.

All speculation, but it all seems reasonable. Idea that PD "abandoned" finished game for 80+M saturated platform and all revenues from planned DLC in the next 24 months and all signed licenses and agreements to work on GT7 on PS4 sounds much less reasonable IMO

We will see, as always

Great post Amar. If most of those things happen I'd be a happy sim racer. But I do believe they did in fact have a schedule for their proposed updates. The community one with quick matching was supposed to come in January. An update for each month along with additional tracks if I recall correctly.

@amar212 - Thanks for your sagely wisdom as usual!

Any idea why multiplayer 'shuffle' mode is not included yet?

I assume it is some technical reason regarding standard/premium car given that in GT5 they were always 'standard'?

No shuffle mode is my biggest gripe with the game. The fact that they are shutting down GT5's servers(the only way to access shuffle mode) is just a kick in the nuts when I'm already down. I can't believe there has been no mention of why this highly coveted feature was removed and if it's coming back or not. I guess this is typical of Polyphony Digital though. No communication.

I should be on about half ten if you guys are still around.

Thanks for the races Rutty it was good fun, you are super quick, a gentlemen and have the patience of a saint. Rare! :)

I assume it is some technical reason regarding standard/premium car given that in GT5 they were always 'standard'?

In case you missed them, because there weren't many, it wasn't ever always standards. Even back when GT5 was first released and the shuffle pool was quite small and fixed there were a small number of premiums. I'm pretty sure I was served up the 300 SL, Golf GTi mkIV (?) and the Focus ST in the early days.

When the shuffle pool increased (I forget which patch) there were a few more including the F40 and R8.

Why? Was there any schedule for the "future updates"?

In less than 100 days from game's release it is still WIP regarding updates.

I'm not sure how this is meant (the internet is hard!) but surely that's the problem. Even without a confirmed schedule, there was certainly an implied one and as per usual with PD they continue to go of on "exciting" tangents rather than just focus on managing expectations and getting some kind of cohesive product together.

I'm as big a GT fan as any, and usually a positive one at that, but even I am getting tired of the constant carrot on a stick way the franchise is going. They have a great thing going but they're on the very cusp of breaking it with their constant need to fanny about.

Also take into account how Network group is working on Community features (they are all still part of the "coming with the update" section on the GT6 official pages) and how end of GT5 online support is scheduled for May.

I'm starting to wonder if using community and GT6 in the same sentence automatically qualifies that sentence as a paradox.

It's a game released in 2013 and I have to send someone who isn't on my friends list a 16+ digit code for them to easily join a room as the search functions are so limited. I can't invite friends to the lobby. I can't share a car or send a tune. I can't set up regulations in sensible combinations. The car list is massive but I can't use any of them online with anyone who is not a collector because the rental car list is farcically small. God forbid I want to shuffle race (you all knew I would say that eventually)...

...and yes it might be my personal pea under the mattress BUT it is indicative of how out of touch PD can be with the people playing their game.

From the very start of GT5 to now and no doubt until they day they shut the servers down there were five types of room you could ALWAYS find:

1) 400/500/600 pp tuned, racing tyres (clean and dirty);
2) NASCAR (clean and dirty);
3) Drag;
4) Trackdays;
5) Shuffle racing (clean and dirty).

Three of these were officially supported by PD in GT5 and only two of them are still in GT6 meanwhile neither of the two that weren't officially supported (beyond having a "type" in the lobby) have gained any official functionality/support.

I don't remember ever seeing a driving on the moon lobby, the only previous tangible connection the game has with Senna is the Honda NSX, the only X cars I saw online were generally ramming into walls or other lobby participants and the A-Spec Vettel challenges appeared to be a frustration rather than joy to most pad users yet all of these things have or are promised to be expanded on.

I know I sound like an old man shouting at the clouds but at times I just want to say to PD just get your shit together and give us one completed something rather than a load of half completed nothings.

Once they are done with everything....

Sums it up quite nicely.

As ever Amar, thanks for an informative an interesting post.

Hahaha, not at all! Thanks for being willing to race when it's just the two of us, and especially for being willing to not use ABS, makes it 10x more fun.

With PD fucking around, your lobbies are the only way I've found to enjoy online GT6 :)

For everyone who is annoyed by the lack of shuffle etc., come play with us for some great clean racing where FUN and FAIRNESS are the priority!

The last bit, I agree on totally!
I think after GT5, which was a very good game, expectations ran high on GT6. To be fair, GT6 is great, it feels good, looks good, sounds a bit better (not yet there though).
With expectations that high, it is undoable to deliver a game which is perfect for everybody. So many people, so many whishes.
One thing I do think is damaging is the lack of communication and belated content coming to GT6. For example the X2014 update was almost a month later than anticipated.
I tweeted to Sony for any updates, even they retweeted that I should ask the source, meaning PD.

Upcoming is the GT Academy 2014, it should be a stand alone DLC. Last time we had that, was with GT5. I remember it took a lot of effort for the PD team to make that demo.

That all said, I still think there is no shame or damage that we make a collective rumble to shake things up a bit!

Just stick to GT, come race online.

Like ruttyboy said: a new challenge is driving with clutch (if you have one) and no driving aids what so ever. GT6 becomes a whole new game and is really challenging!!

For example, try the Ferrari GTO on Monza, No ABS, No visual help, just dashview and clutch! http://youtu.be/1nHZ1pPz9Ek

And if only the clutch in GT5/6 is fully analogue instead of almost digital... Imagine.

LOL, Only with accelerating from first gear you "feel" this. In all the other gears once driving, it does not bother me at all. And I don't intend on driving away from a standstill once I am racing ;-)

i have to tell someone.. My DFPRO broke a few months ago. I've mainly just been using the controller. There was a garage sale the other day, and I saw a steering wheel out. Turns out, its a gamestop steering wheel, and its being sold for $20.00.
I don't think it has anything outside of rumble? But, boy, is it still that much better than the controller. I've worked on getting my times at least relative to the controller times.

But yeah, it feels a little dirty playing with such a garbage wheel.

"It was my 7 year olds." is what the lady said as I was purchasing it. as an adult man.

So close to that debug camera...

Probably mined from the disc. Interesting they list two Willow Springs courses that aren't available in game.

I wouldn't get your hopes up about "Track DLC" either. Every track on that list was found in GT5P as well. It's just leftover junk.

They're just early names for existing tracks. (Akasaka is Tokyo R246, Nursnow is Chamonix, etc).

I agree, this all looks like some major .dump from GT4/GTPSP/GT5 program file.

Community options are interesting, but I wouldn't read too much into track directories, especially since there is basically every single GTPSP (GT4+Valencia) track there - which could mean nothing. However, what I find interesting is lack of New Yourk course in the files, which was a legit GTPSP (GT4) track - we even saw it in the infamous Corvette screenshots backthen.

I could be on later tonight, not 100% at the moment. If you get something going, post here and I'll try my best to get there.

New seasonals. Feels like they're becoming progressively harder each time.

So I'm not the only one that noticed this?

The FXX one in particular is really hard to me. I beat the BMW one, which wasn't too bad, and I'm inching my way to beating the Subaru one. I just can't drives Subarus and Mitsubishis and the like.

But just as unimaginative.

I wouldn't say no to some races, or something stock/pre-tuned (make us reign in a badly tuned vehicle for example), or something old with no abs, or something with multiple rounds, or a fuel challenge, or endurance tyre testing, perhaps some cone smashing, even some technical driving license test type exercises would be a welcome change of pace.

Something... Anything... Just not another standard - tuning available - time trial.

I reckon they must leave making these up to the work experience boy.

I'm very happy they're not listening to you^. They do take multiple laps anyway and look again, tuning isn't permitted in FXX. And it sucks because you can't tune it to your style and it's awful to drive. My FXX is my favorite car in this game but if I had to drive this one I would've driven it once and put the cover on it.

Yeah took me a while to do them, you just have to inch ever better over your ghost each time and it'll eventually happen. That FXX has awful brakes so you must brake early. And don't forget to put on Skid Recovery.

I'm very happy they're not listening to you^.

And that's great, I'm genuinely glad you're happy. I don't inherently dislike time trials myself but I'm not sure why that means there can't be a variety of events though. That would make well, more people happy with no real effort on their part. They have a framework for multiple event styles (as evidenced by the career) so why not use them?

To be honest with time-trials they don't even need to have multiple events to satisfy more people. Just have a more indexed leader board that allows me to define what I see, stock/modified and each aid on/off would be great for example.

They do take multiple laps anyway and look again, tuning isn't permitted in FXX. And it sucks because you can't tune it to your style and it's awful to drive.

And that's a shame you don't like it... but I'll probably love it, because it will teach me something that hopefully will make me a better driver (I need it!).

Sometimes I don't want to bend a car to my will. Sometimes I want it to try and kill me. I want to tame it. You know?

On a different note, with the multiple lap thing comment, you may have misunderstood what I was saying, I meant multiple round events, akin to a rally style timed event. Specific multiple lap time trial events would be fun as well though now you say it.

With racing I'm starting to learn that consistency is maybe as valuable as outright pace over one lap.

As someone who does tune their cars Sander, do you mind if I ask a question about camber and toe and their relationship with speed vs tyre wear? I've been trying to learn to tune by driving NASCAR online, it's a consistent track and car time and time again so it seems like the best place to learn the basics.

I've slowly got to the point where I have a car that can vaguely keep up with the pack and sometimes the leaders (I'm now trying a three gear transmission with a fourth only for fuel saving) but I can't get the tyres to wear evenly. I either end up running out of front right or rear right (sometimes on the same setup!!) and I can't really work out why or find a happy medium. Any ideas Sander, or indeed anyone?

The seasonals are definitely getting harder, especially if you stupdily insist on no assists like me.

Still I finally got a time I'm happy with on that damn Subaru trial. Braking down that big hill with the bump in the middle? Many many many drivers died before I got Gold.

Ended with a 1:20.322 which puts me in 3,622nd place at the moment. I reckon it has to be one of the top non-assisted times in the world*, but thanks to PD not putting a filter in, I'll never know...

On to the FXX tomorrow :D

*only because all the top drivers are using SRF but still, small victories and all that.

I spent a half hour or so trying this before continuing with my quest to learn to tune. Time is down to 1:38.8nn. Most of that .8 is there to be found with just some consistency as I can never quite nail all three chicanes and the lesmo perfectly in a lap. Unfortunately, given I can just turn on SRF and gain a second plus easily, the fact I can't easily filter the times on my friends list and the fact I can't choose which ghost line specifically to show on-track to help learn some better lines, the motivation to bother is severely lacking.

These events could be good fun but as ever PDs lack of depth in implementation shows through.

On an unrelated note, I had some great races on the Nordschleife @500pp (unfortunately with racing tyres) last night in a random public lobby and I have started to fall in love with a Hyundai of all things!

Pshew, just beat the Subaru event. Thought for sure I was going to eat it on the last turn, since I took it a bit too wide. I was actually half off the road, yet was still able to find enough traction to accelerate to the finish line in time.

At first I was using the NBR Challenge Package '12, but it doesn't have the option for an adjustable transmission, so I switched to the WRX STi Spec C '04. I think being able to gear the trans more toward acceleration was what helped me the most...

Man, when your car's body rigidity goes, it fucking goes. Was doing the 600pp world touring car championship with my Furai, and was generally doing fine until the Mount Panorama race. I just started completely eating shit on it. Couldn't get around cars while going at high speeds because it was unresponsive, kept flipping it, couldn't take turns too fast in general.

Now I gotta plop down half a million credits just to fix the damned thing. Poor thing only gets 400 miles between needing a body overhaul. My Ford GT, on the other hand, has 1600 miles, and I have only needed to fix it once. And it only costs like 50k to fix...

Down to 1:25.8nn on the Subaru time-trial with just ABS. I'm losing a lot of time going up the hill because of gearing but I still reckon 1:20 is way out of my range. Might settle for a silver on this one unless I find some time out of nowhere.

It would be really useful to be able to limit the ghosts to just my previous one and say one of the top three on my friends list but I've been through the options and just can't find a way.

I wondered if downloading one of the top ten ghosts, loading the seasonal, loading the ghost and then pulling the ethernet cable might work but I haven't tried yet. Not that one of the top times would be helpful anyway given their alien skills and use of SRF.

The only other way I can think of is to get someone to send me their ghost and then just practice in single player free run but then you still have to actually nail the time again in the seasonal!

Given the involvement PD have with GT:Academy you'd think they'd be keen for GT6 to have all the tools you need to keep improving your driving. Perhaps they expect most people to have limited friends who play the game. I don't know.

If it's any help, here's the setup I used, anything not listed wasn't changed from stock:

Subaru Impreza Coupe 22B-STi Version '98
(it's a standard so may be an issue if you only drive in-cockpit)

Sports: Hard
Racing Suspension: Soft
Standard brakes set to 7:5 (don't know how this affects ABS runs)
Fully Customisable Transmission (leave the ratios as is, apart from 6th gear at 0.807)
Triple plate clutch kit
Carbon propeller shaft
Stage 3 Engine Tuning
Isometric Exhaust Manifold
Power Limited to 96.2%
Stage 3 Weight Reduction
Carbon Bonnet
Window Weight Reduction

As you can see, I don't really know how to tune outside of buying new stuff, I'd love to understand how to setup the suspension and differential properly.

I could also upload a replay to Youtube if that would help?

Thanks Rutty, that's awesome. I'll give that setup a shot this evening. Interesting model as well, I went straight for the new shouty hatchback (I have a "thing" for hot-hatches) but I'm up for trying anything and everything.

With regards to the replay, the ghost would be great but only if it's not a hassle for you. You could export your ghost or replay and you might be able to send it via PSN (not sure) or I guess you could copy it onto a USB stick and upload the exported file to tiny upload or the like but like I said, only if it's not a pain at all.

Cheers Rutty.

No bother at all, check your PMs.

Edit: Oh, and the car choice was driven by me seeing what car the top ten had chosen as they usually find the best one, not sure how. Although saying that, this is the most varied leaderboard I think I've ever seen in terms of car choice. Also helps that it's back from the days before they ruined the look of the thing with bug-eyes and the like.
