Media Create Sales: Week 11, 2014 (Mar 10 - Mar 16)

If the leaked numbers are true, this would be crazy. I never expected this day would come.

I have been following the weekly sales casually but I don't really understand why the 3DS started to drop like this after Christmas time. What gives?

Saturation. All the big games for it already out too. I even think that new model anouncement unless it's an upgrade (native second circle pad) wouldn't move new units.

The PS4 staying at 30k per week would be the biggest miracle any god has ever operated.

But this should serve as an example that games sell systems, even when they are demos. The problem is the next PS4 game with a release date expected to sell 100k+ in a week is:

.

I heard that game is awful.

30k per week would be amazing for PS4 at this point, but I can't believe that.

Sales probably will dive starting next week.

I was beginning to miss Gibson's leaks.

PS Vita actually sold a little bit more since he always forget to add Vita TV sales.

I guess that J-Stars Victory Vs did worse than Pro Baseball Spirits 2014.

people should just come to terms that the Vita has found its market in Japan and it's far from being the miserable failure it's everywhere else.

saying "WOW!!! Vita sold well in Japan? HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE?!?!" is like a journey into a past somewhere in 2013.

it's being doing well-ish for a while now, no need to pretend a miracle happens every week.

DCharlie

And even i am moderately surprised
This week is going to be a bit odd - it's the week before the consumption tax increase and people are losing thier minds

Seems almost everyone is planning to buy an expensive item or two this week prior to the hike - wonder if we'll see a weird set of sales figures?

Saturation? Isn't that normally too soon? Did the DS drop around that time in its life?

Are you telling me not to care about sales in a sales thread? Seriously?

Don't make me laugh.

I didn't even mention the fact that it's going to stay up YoY throughout March, against all expectations. Oops, I just did.

I have to admit, I find it difficult to tell whether you are playing a caricature or whether you really give this much of a shit about Vita sales. Tbh, I hope it's the former.

A 4K MGSV GZ bump for PS4? PS4 saved

The 3DS seems to have dropped at about the same time as all other nintendo handhelds (in Japan).

Wow, why are you so upset? I've seen others with similar post patterns every week. If it actually bothered me I'd just ignore them rather than throw a hissy fit.

Lol no :p I'm glad vita is selling. But I guess you and others wouldn't mind if people spouted "3DS is the king! it's number 1! let's celebrate with champaign!" Each week when the 3DS was outselling Vita?

Well, everyone is doing it. Unfair to just single out Dave.

If the situations were the same, i.e. the Vita had the same expectations as the 3DS and had sold similarly in the past, sure.

But they did(Beastmode) and you are one of the people that highlight great 3DS sales every week and let everyone know its still in first place and software sales are good. I think you only have a problem because its vita and not 3DS that he is championing.

I'm struggling to post anything more nuanced than 'man, the fucking salt'. It's as if people have totally forgotten where the Vita was in comparison to where it is now.

You can't possibly be serious. Have you some form of selective amnesia or something?

Maybe hardware sales will be more front loaded going forward. Those who are in the market for 3DS already have it. Pokemon X/Y sold according to expectations gen over gen, I think it's safe to say this is an indication of some kind of consistency in this mess of a generation. We know that there's a market for mainline Pokemon on a Nintendo handheld and maybe Nintendo handheld sales will stabilize at around 50M per cycle. To me this is enough to sustain a Nintendo platform as a niche product, while the company is branching outward into other industries in search for growth.

Nintendo finally restocking!

I find it funny because its only going to change from 5% to 8%... But for expensive stuff it will surely matter. I want to see how much of an impact this increase will have in the long run.

That's being discussed for almost 4 weeks, and I think it does reach saturation point like other Nintendo handheld around that time.

Guess my memory is painting a far more positive picture. That must be it.

Again, really?

You do know the vita was declared dead and was a laughing stock for a very long time. People had no problem mentioning this for the billionth time. I understand why Dave or other members might feel the need to share their thoughts when things look up a bit.

statistical noise? At 8K, it could happen. Or the tax increase, maybe. Just Dance launches next week, numbers in 2 weeks. Will be interesting to see the
non-
effect it has on sales.

Nope. The new bundle will be released tomorrow.

But it seems all systems increased. Tsutaya mentioned people shopping before the tax hike (April 1st) was starting, so that might be a reason.

Ah, I guess that explain the bump.

Damn, a 3% hike is pretty big for things that are expensive.

This is really tiresome to read each media create thread, we get it, you love vita. But please stop spouting this each time vita outsells the 3DS or is close second

He's been getting away, for some reasons, with throwing constant hits at Nintendo, and to a lesser degree Microsoft, trolling everything that's not Sony and spins everything in favor of Sony. Don't ask me why he's getting away with it, considering he's extremely one sided.

Edit: When I think about, I think he's been banned once though, for Nintendo trolling a couple of months ago.

Yeah. After all the bombing, how low will just dance go? The first was a sucess, but the second already did half the sales of the first... I dont know. Maybe 50k Ltd? At least nintendo is releasing something. I will get the game though, haha

Yeah, 3% tax increase for expensive item is pretty significant. Does this mean we should expect overall sales decrease for short period of time in April?

Wow, congrats to the Vita.

I'm a big Nintendo fan, but have been only playing Vita recently. Such a well made system.

I'd love to see a new Nintendo handheld announced this year. 3DS did decently, but it could have been completely amazing. Nintendo had/has much more potential than what was released.

I'd mind a lot, but that'd mainly be down to me being funny about spelling mistakes sometimes.

Kind of funny considering some of your posts re: Vita, no?

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.

Ah, its the forum backseat modding that I love from the denizens of this topic. Pro-tip: You are not the NeoGAF police and if this all irks you so much, time to take a step back.

The Japan tax thing is probably the go to "what is this week" factor, but seeing the Vita pass the 3DS must still feel pretty odd at Nintendo HQ when its also the week of a Mario franchisee. They're being awfully quiet on all fronts right now.

Haha no, I'm just tired that it's more or less the same poster that writes "Vita is the champion! It's up YoY while the other ones are dead in its track" kind of snarky comments. It would be fine if he simply said "good that vita sales are up!"

Snarky? Thats just factual, Vita is up YoY while everything else is down. For months people have been saying that the Vita was having a nice run but would eventually go down YoY because of a supposedly weaker lineup and last year being the price cut. Hasn't happened yet.

Didn't Mario Party 9 do shit relative to its shipment and then sell through out the year with some crazy legs? I imagine the same may happen with Mario Party 3DS. Any comparisons for that?

Mario Party 9 didn't have any trouble selling its initial shipment since it was released during Golden Week.

Mario Party: Island Tour did on par with other entries.

Mario Party Advance ~63%
Mario Party 8 ~55%
Mario Party DS ~50%
Mario Party 9 ~40%
Mario Party: Island Tour ~48%

You mean 50M worldwide? Pardon me not remembering exact figures, but if that will be the LTD, that would definitely be a drop in comparison to the DS. I think it will sell more than that, but if it doesn't happen, those are still good enough numbers. As in enough of a market to sell full priced games.

Man, that's all that matters. I don't want to sound predictable, but is that really mobiles' doing?

Most definitely not the only reason, but it is a contributor to that.
Japan has 5% consumption tax a long time ago, right?
April 1997 according to Wikipedia.

And it is going to go up to 10% in October 2015. Wow. 5% increase in 1.5 years.

There is an ignore facility. I don't get why people don't use it if they're THAT irked about someones posts. I quite enjoy coming into these threads as it's kind of like watching a playground fight at school - loads of swings, no real punches landed.

Very good point. Quite a lot of releases this week too, to finish off the fiscal year. Eight new Vita titles? Could be on top for two successive weeks.

Damnnnn. Didnt knew that. Well... It surely will be more expensive to buy games and geek stuff next year onwards. Argh.

Last week's sales bump is more likely related to spring holidays/graduation presents, etc. It's usually a decent couple of weeks thanks to that. This week will be the one we see the consumption tax effect going on.

I really do wonder what effect Ground Zeroes is going to have had on MGSV. I'm sure Sony would like the full thing to go PS4 only now, thats for sure.

Ah, everybody knows if you really want to hurt someone and your punches aren't up to scratch, you go and tattle on them to a dinnerlady and give a very one-sided account of events ;)

The past 4 weeks (including this week) PSV was roughly the same (1) or considerably down (3) YoY.

2014: ~37k | 28.761 | 30.709 | 21.460 |

2013: 37.883 | 36.431 | 63.581 | 62.543 |

Keeping numbers anywhere close to last years sales is a good thing, because last year's sales during this period were due to the price drop.
