Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Why there is a huge disparity between Famitsu and Media Create 3DS numbers?

It's surely strange. It happened last week as well (35k for MC v.s. 30k for Famitsu).

Going by Media Create numbers

Hardware

Those are good numbers for Vita. I think, next week, it'll be higher than 3DS due to Hatsune Miku. Then, it'll start going down, though, and being back at a good distance from 3DS, IMHO...Golden Week excluded.

3DS surely is doing much worse than last year, but...as others said, DS had a similar drop ( % wise) in its fourth year as well, so it's more a "natural" drop due to saturation than anything else. Sure, Nintendo should try to do something to improve sales, like a price-cut or a new model, since there will be brand new bundles in the future (MH, New Love Plus+, Theatrhythm, Persona...these ones just in the next few months), but I don't think they should be "scared" by what's happening in Japan, especially considering the software situaton...and also that next year could be when 3DS successor comes.

PS4...eh, last week had an Holiday, everything rose 5-8k...Wii U increased of 2k...PS4 had also MGS (multi with PS4, yeah, but it's a good release for PS4 as well). And yet, it got a low increase. That doesn't bode well for the next few months, especially looking at the lineup which can be called as...almost non-existant? No, seriously, it's composed by ports and Western games, and we've had only three announcements since TGS. All being ports. All being from Tecmo Koei. The hell is going on.

Wii U: it's the usual, basically.

EDIT: Just noticed that there's a special Winning Eleven 2014 coming in May. Platforms? PS3, PSP and 3DS.

Looks like Samurai Warriors 4's first week numbers are below that of SW1, SW2, SW3Z, but are above the Wii version of SW3. That's about par for the course for the entire Warriors series right now (declining sales since the PS2 era).

Not surprised about the decline.

Warriors Orochi 3
Dynasty Warriors 8 XL
Shin Gundam Musou
Sengoku Basara 4
Samurai Warriors 4

Released between October-March

PS4 number seems about what I expected (500k through end of March).
The problem I foresee is maintaining momentum.
I think FFXIV will give the system a larger than expected boost, but the release schedule ain't exactly full to bursting through the summer.

08./02. [3DS] Yo-kai Watch <RPG> (Level 5) {2013.07.11} (¥4.800) - 44.659 / 614.379 (+20%)

Yo-kai Watch does not give a fuck what time it is, at this rate it might even make it to one million.

Not surprised about the decline.

Warriors Orochi 3
Dynasty Warriors 8 XL
Sengoku Basara 4
Samurai Warriors 4

Released between 6 months.

I'm not surprised either, there are more Musou games out there to choose from than ever before and the DW series is also not selling like it used to, which kills me inside.

I'm not surprised by the Vita sales at all. I seem to recall it having quite a healthy schedule of games for the first three to four months of this year. I think it was about 3 - 4 games each month.

...

EDIT: Just noticed that there's a special Winning Eleven 2014 coming in May. Platforms? PS3, PSP and 3DS.

Didn't the last WE do okay than expected on the 3DS? NCL should just buy the IP off Konami. They might treat it better than Konami do.

Pie and Beans

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
Ah this was J STARS VICTOHRY VAHSUS week, that'll explain the almighty strength of Vita, this weeks highest selling most popular platform. Preach.

So I guess PS4 is evening out around 30k a week, not terrible all things considered. The gap between the PS3 and PS4 versions of Ground Zeroes is actually smaller than I thought it would be.

2k-3k difference is negligible, but 5k? And it's for 2 consecutive weeks to boot. Surely there must be an explanation for this hardware number disparity between two trackers.

My guess is one is estimating a group of stores while the other is tracking with actual numbers? Other option they are both estimating a bunch of stores but with a different formula. Although you would think that would show across all platforms

Its going to dip soon, GZ was the only major release it will have for weeks.

What exactly is a "natural" drop if not saturation...? EDIT: weird, I'm sure that originally read a ' "natural drop" not saturation.'

That part of the post was always "due to saturation", nothing changed there. I was wondering what was wrong to you with what I said XD

Software

Decent debut for Mario Party. It's going to have legs, and Golden Week will help.

Samurai Warriors 4 sold lower than the expanded version of SW3, SW3Z. Even when combined. It really seems like Vita stole some of the PS3 audience in the last months for many kind of games, even more than what's possible when you look at the different installed bases. If these games can sell even on a platform like Vita, still lower than 3 millions after 2 years and almost a half in the market, it makes you wonder how much they would sell on an handheld with both power (+ tools) enough to run these games AND big sales. I know PSP was that platform, but PSP didn't get main Musou titles / versions at launch like Vita, just for an example. This is a little different case, that demonstrates even more how less Japanese market cares for graphical power than others. With the graphical potential for handhelds increasing in the future, we could see even more of this, even a further acceleration...

...J-Stars is even a bigger case to point. PS3 and Vita SKUs sold almost the same. Otaku seem to be shifting from PS3 to Vita quite quickly. Vita won't ever be a software monster (currently, that seems to be the 3DS), and there have been many weeks where software sales were low, with a little amount of titles making the charts, but you can't deny that Vita can sell niche/otaku stuff. For a console that many (myself included) considered dead after its first year, it's something. Granted, overall the situation is not even close to be considered as amazing, or even great, or good, but Vita is now a decent platform for some kind of games and genres, even if they have a PS3 SKU. Unfortunately, the abysmal drop from PSP and the dead-status in US and the zombie-status in Europe will probably make it Sony's last traditional effort in the handheld business, I fear.

Yo-kai Watch...who would have thought that this could have a possibility of being a million seller? Hino FINALLY obtained to have again that "Level-5 magic", the anime is doing amazing, and the game keeps selling, and selling, and selling.

Hero Bank...16k, with a 40-60% sell-though? Eh, if it's true that the anime is going to air soon, I want to wait before saying anything. It's not a great debut, but it could have been worse (see: Gaist Crusher...or, as you should all call it, Gaist Crushed).

The delusion of the week? Pro Baseball Spirits. Look at 2013's performance

03./00. [PS3] Pro Baseball Spirits 2013 <SPT> (Konami) {2013.03.20} (¥7.980) - 101.389 / NEW
04./00. [PSP] Pro Baseball Spirits 2013 <SPT> (Konami) {2013.03.20} (¥3.980) - 80.618
11./00. [PSV] Pro Baseball Spirits 2013 <SPT> (Konami) {2013.03.20} (¥7.980) - 23.621 / NEW

And compare it to 2014...it's a massacre, only Vita version gained something compared to last year, and not even that much.

Overall, as already said, 3DS seems to be a software monster. IIRC, its software sales are even better than last year, at the same time, right? Many games sell, from many software houses (not just Nintendo). Vita, overall, is not that good, but it's good (if not great) for niche and otaku games.

it is possible that Vita could get some support from Square and Capcom, since is doing OK right now? Not original games of course, but enhanced mobile ports or something?

My eyes must be playing tricks on me.

Anyway, I'm not sure why you think Nintendo shouldn't be "scared" although that's probably melodramatic. They should certainly be concerned.

This decline and saturation is in the 3DS's strongest market. And considering the relative sales quantity in reaching saturation would suggest a market decline that could extend to their next handheld product.

This without mentioning that they're ability to launch a new home console is seriously questionable at this stage, leaving a future handheld as potentially their only viable product line (excluding QoL crap that I currently have no confidence in).

If that's not cause for concern, I don't know what is really.

You raise a good point there. There are no other number disparity beside 3DS, or/and Vita. But I've just take a notice that Famitsu's PS4 numbers is also being 3k higher than Media Create. I would just draw a middle line here, and called it tie.
When is Golden Week again?

Early May, if I'm not mistaken.

Well after FFX/X2 HD I wouldn't be surprised if they brought the mobile version of Dragon Quest 8 to the Vita.

MGSV: GZ 1k bump. Not too hot.

Media Create and Famitsu not giving an unanimous verdict on the fight between SmokeyDave's God and Devil, but he's drunk on champagne anyway :p

Pleasantly surprised that 3DS managed to stay on top (according to Media Create, that is) even with all those PSV releases.

Yo-kai Watch is a beast, I think everyone agrees.
