One thing I have learnt about everything no one is expendable

Uncharted will be fine, if it wasn't for me reading this thread I don't think I honestly would have noticed

Mort, Col Rogers left Evo for personal reasons in Feb, he wasn't pushed, he left on his own terms, and certainly wasn't replaced and let go. I know this because he's a friend of mine, so please be sure next time of the accuracy of your information.

Has people leaving studios and lay offs always been a big deal around here? Is it a normal occurence or is it happening more often lately?

Can you really saw GoW Ascension was "disappointing"? It didn't sell 5 million but I bet it was healthily profitable.

For you Druckman/Straley super villain loonies out there...

From the Narrative Design Lead at Naughty Dog:

most likely taken completely out of context. stahp

Kurosaki is the real final boss who is taking Hennig's place? Plot twist of the year! Druckman will be salty as fuck!

Interesting.

Is it personal reasons because he couldn't deal with the pressure of not being able to cope with the management of such a big project?

At this rate, I'm not even for sure I want to put money down on UC4. Henning was the primary attraction, and I've enjoyed Richmond's work. Naughty Dog and Sony have some explaining to do in order to right this ship.

Mort continues to post Tales From My Ass™ and GAF continues to lap it up. Why I don't know...

Thanks for the clarification.

Actually he's kind of right. The stuff famousmortimer gives can be good, when it's concrete and he explains (without naming names obviously) where he got it, and how much he trusts it. Even then, it's not exactly 100%.

However, when he makes one of those big posts where he confidently summarizes a bunch of stuff (such as the main one in this thread) -- with no context for where he got the info, or even whether it's just his impression based on vague rumors or actual info he has from somewhere, and then people take it as truth, because he is an "insider" -- that's when I have to get off the train, and so should others. It's irresponsible. He should be more precise and explicit.

In his post here, it is particularly egregious; I can't tell where "his opinion/impression" begins and "actual info he got from insider(s)" ends.

To be fair, Mort saying specifically "Col Rogers [sic] (driveclub) is about failing to deliver" in this situation a claim of factual behind-the-scenes happenings. If Putty is right that Rodgers left specifically for personal reasons, it's reasonable to think of those as being mutually exclusive explanations. Or at least very different characterizations.

There was probably just a major split in opinion about what the direction of the next Uncharted should be. We'll see how this affects the quality of the final product in due time.

Personally, I was not a fan of Uncharted 3 at all, so I can't say I'm terribly disappointed with a change in director.

In that case I believe that I can. It hurts and dilutes the brand. Its critical reception is poor given the series, its sales are relatively weak, and its very presence is unnecessary (the first home console non-remaster in that series that is just a prequel).

The critical reception? The lackluster sales? The backlash from fans?

Everybody knew it was a side/filler game. Ascension hasn't killed or damaged the brand.

Same goes for Gears of War. Judgement did not harm that IP either. Next gen iterations of both should be big sellers.

It certainly wasn't a side game financially speaking. It was developed by a full 100+ team at SSM and took 3 years.

Eh, in my experience, it's never a good thing when directors are leaving mid project. Usually not for the morale of the team, or for the health of the project. Hope Uncharted 4is ok, was looking for it to be my first series experience.

So, you cannot really say then? It's not like you have any numbers or anything. The only thing we know is that it sold more than 600,000 copies in the US in it's launch month.
It's pretty apparent considering Sony tried to forget about it as fast as possible. No announcements, not even any numbers from the directors as we got with GoW3. Usually means sales were disappointing. It disappeared quickly from the charts as well.
Considering we know the budget is roughly the same as GoW3 I think it's not a stretch to assume they didn't break even if we figure in the marketing costs. Of course I don't have any facts.

I have to say I'm starting to get worried.

1 or 2 was to be expect but this is not the forth? Fifth? person leaving?

And it's not some random developers, it's game and creative directors :S
