Man, being reminded that they're the same team makes the whole thing so fucking crazy.

There's no chance they'll be able to deliver KH3 by even the middle of the console generation. This makes the teasers and the promise of more news hurt all the more.

Isn't the team that worked on BbS and Dream Drop Distance now head of development for KH3? That would mean they're both being developed simultaneously. I think even Nomura said that both teams are trying edge each other out.

But this made me realize that the future of SE depends on Nomura. He's leading their two biggest games and some of the most anticipated games in gaming.

Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???
Luminous Engine has been canned? Since when? I thought Final Fantasy Agito (IOS, Android) ran on that engine as well as Final Fantasy XV?

Since when?

Don't tell me you believed retailer placeholder dates...

Oh, so that's where I heard 2014, probably mixed it with a press release or something. Yeah, it went that way. >_>

Never believed 2014 was a thing, not even for a second.

Final Fantasy XV is running on a customized engine they finished before luminous
It uses the lighting tech from luminous

I am pretty sure they canned luminous after Wada quit. no progress updates, no talk at GDC, no demos, it is gone and I am sure the lead guy also left square

..What a surprise, ha ha. There'd be hell on earth if they skipped these at E3, ha ha.
We were more hoping for..you know, news a while ago, not later into the year.
Can't wait to see more of them either way for sure, very big reasons for me getting a PS4, just wish they'd talk more about them or show more. In fact, SE in general, I don't know very much of what they're even doing. KH3/FFXV are all I know coming from them "soon"
EDIT: Oh KH2.5 too, but still doesn't really count, its a remake after all, still excited for it though :D

Nomura said they are working with Luminous studio team, so they are finishing up the engine while making the game. I am pretty sure Luminous studio is not canned.

BTW if you guys want to see and appreciate the object physics in this game, download this 200 mb video

pay attention to the small objects by the windows, the tables, the chairs etc

HIGHLY IMPRESSIVE!

I think you are referring to target render footage. Gameplay footage was the stuff in the gameplay trailer, which was variable in quality. Some of the stuff in that trailer looks more complete visually and I am pretty sure they said that the footage was a mix of target render and gameplay.

Also, I think they will still be developing luminous. It ain't just for FF, but who knows.

I am pretty sure the entire game was running of high end PC's at E3. There is no target render for this game

I think you're really confused here. Luminous is certainly not canned. They said specifically that right now XV isn't running entirely on the Luminous Engine because it's not entirely done, but they're hoping that will be the case by the time the game is released.

As for target renders, I believe Hashimoto confirmed at the Q&A session for the press at E3 itself that for FFXV the trailer contained a number of target render scenes because they didn't have a lot of time to put it together. That's why they put out another video right after that containing actual in-game combat.

Hopefully you are right, because there definitely seems some inconsistency in the fidelity fo the footage. Some of it definitely seems like it is rendered with a last-gen focused engine. They difinetly need to upgrade their rendering pipeline. Modelling is mostly good, but texturing lighting, DoF and effects need to be leveredged up a notch...

Ah, Duckroll cleared it up. Good. Hopefully we see some improvement because right now they need to get rid of some of the wiff of last gen.

haha

When it comes to these kinds of games, always assume you are being lied to.

it looked real time to me, i didn't see any cg there and it easy to spot the flaws

ok thanks for clearing it all up

I recall a Nomura interview where he said he can't really start work on KH3 until FFXV is reasonably done. I am assuming he's basically in charge of both games.

They're actually actively hiring for the engine over on Gamasutra.

I realize they've taken a really embarrassingly long time to get this thing functional and ship a product on it, but it still seems to exist.

That sounds like a really old outdated interview. Like, before they actually announced KH3. That was his excuse all these years for why KH3 wasn't announced. All that seems to have changed when they actually announced KH3 and put the Osaka team on it. They're not working on XV, and they're definitely working on the game right now.

Not to mention the KH team and the FFXV team are one in the same. What a strange post.
Well, technically that's wrong. Nomura considers that KH Team = Osaka team, nowadays, while FFXV team is the ex-KH team + Tabata's people + some people who've been on the series since, like, FFVII or even longer(?).

News coming in the future?

Yeah, probably. Sometime in the future we will hear something about these games. It all adds up from where I'm sitting.

Yeah.

Totally don't want the guy who actually created a hit new Ip and your biggest characters.

You're acting as if that's a bad thing. Nomura is unarguably a great thing for all of SQEX.

I am not the only one who has seen his or her faith in Nomura crumble to dust over the better part of the past decade.

I'm not trying to start a flame war. I'm really hopeful for KH3 and FFXV but I am apprehensive, sorry.

Not very old.

Speaking with IGN, Hashimoto admitted that Tetsuya Nomura’s involvement with both Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts III might have some impact on their production.

“So at E3 this year we announced Kingdom Hearts III and Final Fantasy XV,” he said. “Both have Tetsuya Nomura as their director, so we can’t create these two big games at the same time. It’s a difficult job, as we want each game to be perfect in terms of quality.”

You're faith crumbled when he continued to push brand new IPs (TWEWY?), the highest rated games in his main franchise (Birth By Sleep?), and wants his 1 and only Final Fantasy to be similar to that of FF XII and distance himself away from XIII? Or how he pushed new blood in the company into director roles?

Can you explain to me exactly when your faith was shaken other then platform choice?

I know Luminous is supposed to be a much better engine to develop on, but this is starting to sound like another Crystal Tools. It won't be (I hope), but it seems like they've been working on Luminous for quite some time.

When did we get that last tech demo anyway? Wasn't that at last GDC or sometime around then?

That doesn't suggest that they're only making KH3 after they finished FFXV though, simply that we shouldn't expect both games to come out at the same time. And regardless of what Hashimoto might have said, Nomura himself has been providing updates on both games, which are being developed by very different teams. Nothing suggests at all that they're only working on KH3 after FFXV is done. That would be really silly,
since FFXV will never be done!

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
I'm immune to these things already.

When it comes, it comes.

So, from what I remember wasn't FFXV originally running on the Crystal Tools engine?
Then sometime around 2010 - 2011 they switched to a propitiatory action based engine.
And now they want to completely switch to the Luminous Engine?

But what if it isn't? Nojima isn't perfect.
Well, Akiyama should help character interactions be at least a bit more realistic, which should make for more enjoyable-to-follow exchanges between characters in and out of cutscenes (this is already evident in everything we've heard/seen so far, imo) and the story being a bit simpler & more grounded in reality should help evade the silly "he's a dream, he's dead, now he's not, now he thought a ball was a grenade" shit, hopefully.

It's totally fine to be apprehensive. To people who aren't really fans of KH, he's a seemingly just an "ok" developer, and that worries people that the fate of the biggest JRPG franchise is in the hands of someone they think is just sorta ok.

But you have to remember, he easily has Square's best team in years behind him. If any team at SE can make this project work, its the team they got.
But what if it isn't? Nojima isn't perfect.
Kagari, don't stress. I feel like you're preparing yourself for disappointment so much, that even if the game lives up to hype, you would have permanently damaged your hype gland.

I'm much more of a gameplay guy, so even if the story sucks, XV should still be pretty damn fun to play for me.

Oh and event direction by Jun Akiyama. The only person in the team I have strong faith in story-telling department.
