Media Create Sales: Week 13, 2014 (Mar 24 - Mar 30)

I'm very confident PS4 will eventually outsell Wii U and all that.

But the idea bandied about that PS4 would somewhat easily outsell PS3 I find increasingly unlikely.

I havent seen that bandied about? seen some questioning if it might be possible but easily outselling?

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.

Dat Miku bump.. And well PS4, I guess you are going the way of PS3 in Japan.. Btw when do you guys see the PS3 hitting 10 million?

I dont remember any and also don't have the time to check.
There were. Some people expected the ps4 to get the other parts of the last gen market since there was no competition from the Wii anymore.

Of course that there was a possibility that this could've happened, but when nintendo tries much harder to please that old audience and fails, the ps4 wouldnt won those people just for existing.

that would be lame, if sony were smart they'd have money invested in some actual exclusive games for the japanese market for ps4

I don't think Sony cares about Japan anymore. The PS4 is an entirely Western focused console, with next to no Japanese engineers involved in its development.

No.

More like me and one other person are the only people to reply to your prediction and call it crazy.

I've never seen anyone say easily?

If you read my post, you'd see I never predicted the Wii U to outsell the PS4, infact I did the opposite. I just acknowledged the possibility that the Wii U could potentially outsell the PS4 in Japan, and that most people who don't have a sony-based agenda can see that it is definitely a possibility.

You missed my point. Most of these games are irrelevant when considered individually. However they show that the industry is moving on the PS4. Slowly, but surely.

I disagree that it shows that at all. So far the only conclusion is that the big names that benefit from western sales are moving across and nothing else. When a glut of 3rd party "mid tier" games appear (like Lily Bergamo) then we can say that for sure. As strange as it sounds, the Vita might be the biggest obstruction in the way of the PS4s success, as that's where a lot of these mid-tier games are going now. The 3DS and iOS obviously get their fair share too.

Didn't Miku do like 150k on Vita the last time?

If you add the launch sales of the PS3 and Vita game together it's basically identical to the launch sales of the first Vita game, which implies that it's mostly the same audience and that the PS3 version got some rebuying going.

What was the logic behind the comparison with Project Mirai instead of its direct predecessor on the same systems?

But it's missing an additional 70k from the PS3 version that released later after the Vita version. Doesn't that mean that Diva 2 could sell worse than diva 1?

cw requested it.

Almost assuredly. I'm suggesting that much of that 70K may have been people repurchasing the game and then this go around just going with whichever SKU they liked more.

If the Wii U and PS4 do poorly in japan, I'm not sure it matters who "wins" to be honest.

That being said...ps4 will have more support and games over the next few years than the U so it'll pick up like the ps3 I think.

cw_sasuke

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
cw requested it.
And thanks for it.

Looks like Sega won't change their strategy I'm the near future, 3DS will probably be good enough for another Mirai game and the next main game will be on Vita/PS3 I guess.

When it comes to Japan and the performance of consoles in general, the question is when the next big device is hitting and for which market they are going. For the 4DS - when will it be released and how long will Nintendo keep the 3DS around. If 4DS or the next Sony portable has the possibly to display games in a comfortable way on the big screen, home consoles might become a niche in Japan.

Looking at the release list it seems that many J-devs are fine with developing on systems with Ps3 level hardware.

It seems the PS3-Vita combo is hitting it's stride . I wonder if this is going to continue next year.

I wonder how the same software released onthe PS4 Vita PS3 combo will fare.

The Wii U lives...

Nice bounce back for that and the 3DS.

F 2nd has this promo where the retail copy of the game comes with a rebate code for the digital version on the other console. I bet they're doing lots more digital sales of the game than usual. So the game may actually have sold better than the previous one.

The system will pick up steam once the library gets better. Japan doesn't buy hardware on the promise of future good games.
It's clear some Japanese gamers do buy hardware on the promise of future good games because otherwise the PS4 wouldn't be selling right now with its small library.

I expected Miku to be less on each system due to the same day release but I had higher hopes than this. Though hopefully with vita's far better position than when the first released legs will be much stronger.

I honestly don't know how Japan would take a F2P game. Is it even going to be sold at retail?

Honest question :Why is Deep down being a F2P game hold as a negative to it's sales potential in Japan , when games like Puzzle and dragons have clearly shown that they are fine with it ?

But to answer the quoted post's question above :

Pretty much every game ,even if it is digital only in all of the west will get a retail release .
Deep down will almost assuredly get one too .

The PS3 port of Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA F sold 113.722 units in its first week (160.219 LTD). It is evident that Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F 2nd will fall short of its predecessor.

Because Puzzle and Dragons are on your phone that you can play for short bursts vs what is likely a game that is more similar to Dark Souls that will likely force you to sit down in your home for hours. We are talking very different experiences here.

I wonder how much effort MS is going to put into the xbone's Japanese launch now.

Do they really think they can do alright when both Sony and Nintendo couldn't?

I don't think they're that stupid. Honestly launching in Japan looks to accomplish maybe only not completely alienate Japanese devs.

I think PSO2 does fairly well. The retail Vita SKU certainly outperformed expectations in 'ere.

SmokyDave, is it ok if I call you Dave?

Look Dave, some of us are still coping with the lack of PSO2 here in the west. Don't bring it up unless you're seeking to reignite some hurt feelings around these parts.

Psycho_Mantis being one of the main ps4>ps3 proponents but let's split hairs over whether it will outsell the ps3 easily or not so easily.

You can call me whatever you like, and rest assured I feel your pain. I still don't understand why we get two Miku games, a fucking Monkey Ball game, but no PSO.

What do you want? A virtual harem? One girl is enough for one lone otaku!
They've been releasing the same game for years now. People are going to get bored. This new game is the same as the last just with a bit of extra content, most of which is not meaningful. Yet they want to charge 60 bucks for it. At least offer a 1000~1500 yen digital upgrade for existing owners or something.
If they won't add new girls to the game, then at the very least they need to add a ton of extra content and change the game up quite a bit.

Shameful month for me.

I never tied this before, but I ran the results with Media Create and Dengeki to see how it would go:

Code:
BY UNITS BY MEAN ERROR %

  1 31,778 Dengeki 1 5.16% Dengeki
  2 47,578 Media-Create 2 6.89% Media-Create
  3 48,943 L Thammy 3 10.63% L Thammy

Expected, but L Thammy almost beat Media Create by units. =P
