So Dark Souls II [PC] is launching in less then a month and there's no footage of it.

Is Brad a reviewer? Also, are reviewers going to review the PC version separately (in detail) or just give it a score?

Brad reviews plenty of games but I doubt they'll review Dark Souls II for the PC separately since they didn't even review Dark Souls II for the consoles yet.

No one on giant bomb reviewed dark souls 2 as of yet. It could still happen. I'd actually love Vinny to review it but I'm sure he's too busy to do it.

Excited to know we will hear news soon. Hopefully a PC quick look.

Really hope someone (ANYONE) spills the beans soon. At this point, it really doesn't matter since I've pre-ordered the damn thing, but still. Ready to be disappointed.

Oh, bitch bitch bitch.
its a little tiresome-we get it-its ugly

its also one of the most fun/challenging games on the market-but noone sees that

Talk about a persecution complex. The game is getting tons of positive talk and no one sees that the Souls games are fun and challenging? You seem to want it to be all positive, all the time regardless of the state of the game or people's opinions.

Steam doesn't always mean final code does it? Odd they are giving it to reviewers so early, I need it now!

They have to press the game to disks since they're selling physical copies, so it's probably in a sellable state, though I'm sure they're still bug fixing and there will be a launch day patch.

Also, the fact that their sending it out to publications at all - especially this early - makes me think that it must at least be in a presentable state.

I never knew people placed such high importance on the "interconnected areas" of Dark Souls 1. They must have hated the game post Anor Londo.

Well, I kind of do. I think most of the post Anor Londo content is borderline bad and I usually lose my will do play once I get the lordvessel.

After the twitter from Brad i call the "wait a month and half to release the game because we need to improve the PC version" a bullshit.

If those Steam shots is how it is after all the promises of a PC-lead then waiting for a 9.99 sale is a good alternative. Full price for yet another half-assed version is a no-go.

Probably going to be another terrible port.

Which would be a shame, and I seriously hope Durante doesn't fix it this time in case we just get a shitty port once more. Two times in a row after endlessly saying how the PC version was leading? That's would be just borderline pathetic.

Clearly people forgot how bad DS1 looked on consoles... here is DS1 on PC with DSFix. Now imagine sub 720p console version that lacks many advance graphics features that came with DSFix. Also lets not ignore that DS2 also has a dynamic lighting system far better than that of DS1.

I actually disagree with the notion that DS1 looks bad on consoles.

Sure, the higher resolution on the PC helps a lot, but the game is still attractive on consoles and looks better overall than DS2.

We need to stop asking Modders to fix developers job. I really hope Durante this time will not spend a sigle minute fix FROM work.
Are you saying you want to prevent the community from improving a game they like? Anything they do is a labour of passion, taking that away from them to "shame" developers is not how things work. :p

Hope != Prevent. FROM were upfront about the problems with the port of DS1 and their own inability to get to grips with PC development so I believe that to be a whole other situation as everyone knew the deal going in. If after all the talk of DS2 being the lead platform it comes out as a Console+ experience then I would also hope the community doesn't wind up doing their job for them again. If they do bully for them but I fear the message that devs will hear from this is 'If we have a passionate fanbase on PC we don't have to put the hard yards in, they'll do it for us'.

That's the inevitable problem. It lets them be lazy when it comes to making sure the game runs with all the bells and whistles that PC gamers expect. At the same time, I would not have bothered with Dark Souls 1 on PC at all if not for Durante's fix.

I wouldn't worry about that - I think the amount of developers who do have such dedicated and passionate fanbases is really small in the first place, and those who do have earned it and worked really hard to enable and maintain that fanbase and mod community.

From (with their limited representation on PC) is a huge outlier in this case.

And even then, I'd much rather have the mod community salvage a game that I otherwise wouldn't have wanted to play.

New Londo Ruins and The Catacombs are accessible right from the beginning, so coming back to them later and being able to explore them in more depth is different from just adding a new destination to your warp list. New Londo Ruins also connects back to the Valley of the Drakes in a cool way, and The Catacombs is so vertical and interconnected that it satisfies us level design obsessives all by itself. As for the Demon Ruins and the Duke's Archives, I'd say that yes most people were disappointed with them.

The "one level after another" or "big flat open world" schools of level design are like an album of individual songs or a DJ set mixing together loop-based music, easy and completely valid ways to get ideas out there and string them together in a way people can follow and enjoy, but artistically not at all comparable to a symphony.

Sorry I don't really understand this. I assume you appreciate The Catacombs' "interconnectedness" in relation to it connecting with Firelink Shrine and then Tomb of the Giants, correct? If so, why dislike Demon Ruins when technically you can go from Firelink to Blighttown to Demon Ruins to Lost Izalith? You can throw New Londo Ruins and Valley of the Drakes in there as well, since people keep counting them to strengthen their points or something.

Dukes Archives is so good, argh. Even that has Anor Londo - Duke's Archives - Crystal Cave.

Awww shit, Brad has the game already? I really hope he doesnt dick around with silly answers, just tell us. Is it the same as the console version? the end.

I think he's talking about the catacombs on its own. Vertical level design that has a number of paths that can cross plus fun shortcuts.

Maybe, but the quoted post was talking about different areas being connected, and the catacombs in itself isn't that special in terms of vertical level design in the series.

I think i'm gonna laugh if the PC versions turns out the same as the console version except for higher resolution support. But who knows maybe the PC was the lead platform all along and the consoles were just downgraded for performance.

Lead platform but delayed for 6 weeks? The Steam page now shows screenshots that just look like the console version at a higher resolution so that's probably what should be expected. The difference between the reveal footage and the retail console version is so large that they would never release it looking like that.

the amount of mad if pc version doesn't have lighting and they release a ps4 version with lighting.

I don't think they'd do that. Their entire PC fanbase would go nuts. If they do something like that they would have to patch the PC version but then you'd expect them to just release it like that.
