Quick, while I just discovered this format, how do you pronounce "webm"? Is it "web M" or "webbum", like "Web 'em, Spidey!"? I say "webbum", because that's what it looks like and it's easier. Web-M is the equivalent of "JIF", the dumb version nobody should say.

It's just "web M".

Can someone do me a solid and convert this for me. I recently edited this in anticipation for upcoming E3 rumors and general terrible news.

Using Firefox here. Is the extension going to be updated so that webms appear upon loading of the page? Right now they appear as links for several seconds while it apparently "thinks" about them, then makes them into viewable media. Also, options like the Chrome version.

I had to change my internet accountability filter to allow some of these webms, since I have 4chan generally blocked.

The preferred pronunciation is we-be-em

Ok thank you, i will have a look when i'm back at work tomorrow.

I have installed the Chrome one & that seems to be working ok, some are taking some time to load though.

The console should show an error or warning when loading this thread with the addon enabled.

if you see something like this: "GET http://a.pomf.se/reojqq.webm" it should work though.

i get this in the console,
Use of getUserData() or setUserData() is deprecated. Use WeakMap or element.dataset instead. requestNotifier.js:64
The Web Console logging API (console.log, console.info, console.warn, console.error) has been disabled by a script on this page.

Why are people pronouncing it Weebum? I have pronounced it Web M for years, and as far as I know that's also the pronunciation google use in conferences when talking about it.

EDIT: wait, GAF can't img tag them?

Nope, we are using an extention to turn links into embedded video. And that's what they are, video. Img tags only make sense for WebP.

Well, im using an ancient Pentium 4 at 3.0 ghz and the CPU usage is about 30% for the higher resolution ones. Have to watch more of these to be sure.

That's not coming from the addon. Maybe try the new version I posted above.

Could you flag this for compatibility with older versions of Firefox like 19.0.2 please?

It didn't work in FF20 for me

Thanks, i have installed the new version but it is still not showing them up in the thread, i am just getting the links still.

Win7
Firefox 28.0

I have actually no idea why this isn't working. I have the exact same configuration. Maybe another addon is blocking it? (Adblock, Stylish, Greasemonkey?)

lol so fast with them updates;

Once I found out how to get this options to work, it is rather easy now. :p

What other addons do you have installed? Maybe send me a screenshot of your addon overview page.

WebM for NeoGAF Firefox Addon 0.5 - Now with Hover to play and option to hide the controls

Hey ekim. Great work! Is there a way to like display the play button only in the center of the video or some other indicator so that you know you are looking at a WebM? It's fine in this thread, but if someone just posts on in another thread I wouldn't be able to tell on the spot if it's a WebM or just a picture.

Well I could easily add a colored border as an indicator or you just enable the controls.

I'm still getting this problem where they can't be played, just an error that says they're corrupted. Most do work for me though. Weird.

Hm... it seems to be impossible to add a border around the video element. I would have to deal with it in another way. Not sure how yet. :-/

Goodness be, can this be reality ? OP should have been a little more technical free maybe and inform the misinformed about this sorcery !

Of course, since it's not officially supported by the forum. But ultimately, I believe the advantages this format brings are too great for the admin/mods to dismiss it without any consideration. Hell, many gaming/anime/etc related websites & forums are either considering supporting HTML5/WebM or have already implemented the code to support ever since the 4chan announcement.

There is 100% guaranteed to be restrictions:

Webm is a format especially good at showing short youtube clips (virals/trailers/fails etc.) with audio effectively stealing the originals sources ad revenue. Then there are ppl potentially posting screener rips and spoilers all over the place to the annoyance of the movie industry.

Here is the 4 chan restrictions:

Are you asking for full WebM support or something like 4chan's WebM support?
The former means allowing users to upload full-fledged videos (you know, video, audio, play, pause, volume, etc.); the latter means introducing some severe limitations on the format so people don't abuse it:

We only accept WebM files with one video stream and no audio streams, that are shorter than 120 seconds, no larger than 2048x2048 pixels, and less than 3 MB in size.
