Watch Dogs will arrive on Wii U in Fall 2014

I think "Fall 2014" is a euphemism for "cancellation."

Not this again

Ubi: "We will release it later"
GAF: "Nope, you will cancel it"
Ubi: "We will release it in Fall 2014"
GAF: "Nope, you will cancel it"

Lots of crows will be served.

Nobody in their right mind who owns a non-Wii U platform Watch_Dogs is releasing on...would wait for the on-par, extremely late Wii U version with little added features.

I own a PS3 and I will definitely not buy WatchDogs on PS3. I got over 60 games in my backlog, so tell me - why should I care that it gets released on Wii U a few months later? This will probably result in a non buggy-as-shit Wii U version, because the players on other platforms will do the beta-testing for me, which I consider to be a good thing.

Don't want to shock you, but I just bought Little King's Story for Wii / Wii U. Which was released in 2009.

Fall 2014? Really? 4-5 months after the other versions?

If it even will be on par, and added features, I expect the usual checklist to be fulfilled.

1. Late release *check*
2. Full price when all other version have dropped to at least half price *check*
3. No more DLC after release if there is any at all for the Wii U version *check*
4. Performance worse then on PS3/360 in terms of textures/framerate etc etc *check*

Prove me wrong on ALL accounts Ubisoft. I dare you. (ofc late release is hard to prove wrong, since it is what it is.)

Well, I guess there is a gaming system Ubisoft can screw over even more than the PC. At least most titles were delayed a month or less for us Steam-fanboys.

But at this point I just own a Wii U to play the next big Nintendo exclusives anyway, so I ain't even mad. Just cancel the damn thing if you're going to send it out to die.

I'm honestly surprised this version isn't just canceled at this point :l. Its clear that Ubisoft doesn't think it will sell and is not launching it with its other versions, so why bother releasing the game so late on Wii U when it will not only be sub-par compared to the other versions but also be at the launch price when the other versions are most likely at the sub 40-30 dollar price point...

I understand why Ubi is so against supporting the Wii U (due to the system's struggling sales) but if you are giving the system content, make sure its content is great AND if its coming to all platforms, then make sure it launches with the other platforms. What Ubi is doing by selling this version so latter is that its telling its consumers that "Hay guys, this version is the crap version....but we are still charging it full price...BUY THIS GAME!"

I hope this version is great and makes Wii U owners happy, but Ubi doing this...doesn't paint a very convincing picture sadly :(.

A few people who only own a Wii U and are looking forward to Watch_Dogs are happy to hear this news. I'm happy for them.

Strange seeing a bunch of people with no interest in a Wii U version suggesting the Wii U version be canceled. What's the motivation there fellas? Are you actually super concerned with how much money Ubi makes on each platform? Lol.

I'll play ball Ubi. I'll wait for Watch_dogs on Wii U. I'll only purchase it for the system if it's technically better than the ps3/360 versions and has some truly inspired gamepad features. That's why it's delayed, so it shouldn't be difficult to deliver. Failing that, I'll pick it up on PC for a fraction of the cost instead. Fair.

If its identical to the console versions when it is released on the Wii U, then yeah that is pretty garbage, and I'll just get it on a price drop on Steam.

If they actually add gamepad implementation though, hell even something like WWHD with its start menu, I'd probably get the Wii U version. I mean, I see no reason why people who were going to buy it on Wii U are suddenly going to switch to PS4/Xbone. The only advantage Wii U would have over either version is gamepad implementation regardless of the release date.

I applaud the effort if Ubisoft is really releasing it but I will also be the first one to laugh at the sales and say 'I told you so'.

It's almost like those people have paid the game's development out of their own pockets, lol.

Remember the time when we all were innocent gamers not completely corrupted by fanboyism and just happy games where available ANYWHERE?

Relax people! If it comes out on Wii U and you are not interested in it, there is no need to be upset and wish the game to be canceled. After all there is still some hope the game will actually end up being good ;)

Who is going to buy this though? That far away and most of the other versions will be discounted to like $20 or less

If they want to sell the game at full price 5-6 months after the other versions have been released, they must at least include some kind of exclusive content for the Wii U version (such as DLC or something like that). Otherwise, no one will buy the Wii U version for 60€ when they can find the rest of versions for 20-30€

1080p like PS4?

Use the Gamepad as the smartphone tool?

Possible best version confirmed??

Maybe?

No doubt about it. They're holding it back to make it the definitive version. Why else would they say this? Ubisoft are a very honest and open company. Misleading people just isn't them.
It's definitely canned.

If there were any indication that PS4/XBO owners were considering the WiiU version over PS4, then I think delaying the release is a bad idea. If it means that the WiiU version will be a technical showpiece for the console, with some clever and innovative uses for the gamepad, then I'm game.

long time.

I still got my 40 dollar preorder. I'll just keep it. I live in Syrupland with price hikes. Even the other versions of WD won't drop to 40 by the time this comes out.

Believe it or not, not everyone is a DAY 1 buyer or has the funds to buy every game day 1.

However, having a GOOD Gamepad integration in the Wii U version is really important, because if it DOES end up having a great gamepad integration, it will be a version to wait for, regardless of console, but if it JUST ends up being the same as the other versions, the delay would be unneccessary and do more harm than good.

The question is, however, what does FALL 2014 actually mean?

Let's assume MK8 sells really well and thus moves a significant amount of Wii U's, I think it could come out as early as October, since Fall begins September 22nd if I'm not wrong.

will people really wait till th e fall to play the wii u version ?

Like I said above, I will assuming Ubi gives me a reason too. By the time the Wii U version hits if the gamepad features are meh, the (at that point, definitive) PC version will be dirt cheap. Works for me.

That's if they haven't already shelved it and are doing this for PR reasons (which is my bet).

How would it help them to make people think it's coming when they could let them know it's canceled so they could seek it out elsewhere?

I don't blame them for making that move. Nintendo fans didn't support Ubisoft even when they made a console exclusive for launch.

Since they are pretty close to release, I don't think it will be cancelled. It will just be more expensive and worse. Kind of symbolic for the Wii U.

Jesus, GAF.

"Wii U has no games, Nintendo should kill it."
"Hey, this AAA game for Wii U is coming just a bit later than on other platforms, hold tight!"
"Oh just don't bother, Ubisoft, no one cares"

If you complain that the Wii U has no games, then you can't also complain that a company will be releasing a big title for the system.

I didn't mean to sound bitter; just thought that Wii U owners getting another sub-par 3rd party port is messed up. I am just surprised the Wii U version isn't cancelled (as the game is coming out so much latter than the other versions), not want the Wii U version to be cancelled outright. I think that if implemented well, the hacking controls mapped to the GamePad could be quite interesting and the fact that the GamePad alone has a map would make a open world game like Watch Dogs stronger to play; marking objectives with a touch of the screen, quickly stitching the GPS-auto navigation, ect.

I'll believe it when I see it.

Fall 2014 is when it finally gets cancelled.

'targeting'

I think not, old bean.

I'll believe it when I see it
getting it on PS4 anyway

Sure it does.

Indeed. This report is yet more proof that the game will ultimately be cancelled. Just like every other time Ubisoft asserted that it is not cancelled. Brilliant.

/sarcasm (in case you couldn't tell)

How would it help them to make people think it's coming when they could let them know it's canceled so they could seek it out elsewhere?

This.. The people that are asserting "maybe they didn't decide to cancel it yet, but I just KNOW they will" are already being silly. The people asserting "it's already cancelled, but they're lying to us to get better PR" need help...

I wouldn't say happy. Did Ubisoft give a reason for the delay?

I heard that there were some Wii U exclusive bugs that Ubisoft was having trouble getting around, since Nintendo is obscenely protective about their hardware and led to a bit of a disagreement between them. As far as I can tell, its all good now, but it definitely left a mark.

I'm not a huge fan of Ubisoft, but I'm glad at least one major third party player isn't taking every opportunity to shit all over the Wii U.

Wat? That doesn't seem to jive with what they've said thus far. Do you have inside info, or is this pure conjecture?

Maybe they're trying not to piss off all the people that only own a Wii U and can't buy Ubisoft games on any other platform.

I recall hearing about it earlier on Gaf a few weeks ago. I may not be remembering correctly or I'm confusing rumor with fact, but I believe that was the case. I'll see if I can find the thread again.

Can you explain this reasoning to me? I would think that straight up lying to Wii U owners about the viability of the game releasing on the console would generate more bad press, not less.

I mean its better to just straight up say "We don't believe that a console port to the Wii U would be financially viable at this time", because then you're done. You can then join the chorus of third-parties hating Nintendo, and no one blames you for it because after all "Wii U is dead lol".

No worries. If that was rumored or reported, I missed it. Last we heard (I thought) was that they weren't as far along on the Wii U version as a result of prioritizing other platforms, and that they wanted to give Bucharest as much time as possible to make sure the Wii U version wasn't garbage.

Maybe you're misremembering from when they specifically said the ACIV U version had troubles, but the dev team had gotten past it? That's all I can think of, although Ubisoft has yet to put out a solid game on the U(Zombi U, AC3, and SC:B needed several patches) that hasn't been delayed, so this is probably win-win for Wii U only owners.
