Any chance of getting better Facebook integration in a future FW update? I'd really like to see which of my Facebook friends have a PS4. It would be a great way to keep in touch with old friends that I otherwise wouldn't know have the system. I fully expected this feature to exist when the Facebook integration was announced, and am disappointed to see that all I'm really able to do is post screenshots and videos to my Facebook wall (which I have no interest in doing). It doesn't seem like it would be too difficult to see what other friends of mine have registered their Facebook accounts on their PS4.

Setting your PS4's audio to PCM won't give you 5.1 in PS4's Netflix app. You have to set PS4's audio to Bitstream DTS ... or Dolby ... to get actual 5.1 in the app. I've placed my ear to my surrounds and no audio comes out when PCM is selected.

Doesn't matter, your receiver should still play the correct codec. With Bitstream DTS set on my PS4, my receiver reads Digital Plus.

What the receiver shows when playing games or sitting in the Netflix app not watching anything (it's a 7.1 receiver but the two back surrounds are currently unplugged):

And playing one of the movies in Netflix that supports it, the receiver shows it's correct:

And once you change the different set of PS4's audio options while playing a Blu-ray movie to Bitstream, you get the lovely DTS-HD LED. mmmm DTS-HD.

You shouldn't be bit streaming game audio, you want to use PCM for that so it's uncompressed.

NOOOOOO MP3 SUPPORT YET FUCK YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU SONY

I honestly do not care about a single one of those features.

And now I am sad :(

I'm getting irritated that 3D Bluray functionality still hasn't shown up. I've held off on a 3D player because it was announced PS4 would have the functionality. Then they delayed the update.

I'm sitting with my unopened Jurassic Park 3D film and I'd love to watch that and more >:0(

This is like the achilles heel of the PS4. Xbox One will double as a time machine in the next update coming in a week and PS4 will allegedly become more "stable" with no discernible difference whatsoever in roughly 2-4 months.

Any word on if they are patching the 5.1 bug with audio for the center channel going over HDMI to your TV and not to your center channel if your using optical audio and HDMI for video?

I used the following workaround in order to get my center speaker working over HDMI:

-set sound to optical audio (even if you're not using optical)
-make sure only Linear PCM is selected

Remember when everyone complained that Sony updated the PS3 firmware too often?

Now it doesn't happen often enough. Really can't please everyone.

To be fair, Sony is updating the firmware on the PS4 just about once a month, they're just not adding much in the updates.

Sony have been saving all month for this fw update, they don't have a war chest of money like MS do, so they can't really afford this.

It's only because they love us they're going to fix the clock.

I find that very confusing, so when the PS4 on the OS it's actually in DTS? I much preferred how it worked on the PS3 which seemed to give you a truer representation of what codec you was getting, it would switch the amp all the time but my PS4 just says DTS for everything which is annoying.

It's because changing the audio stream is not a real solution. It's a crappy workaround.

The real way to do it is to leave the audio in PCM (default mode) and the PS4 should pass the audio track straight through to the receiver, which should detect the surround track, and decode it properly. We should not need to change to bitstream.

In fact, changing to bitstream isn't desirable for games, which output in surround sound just fine.

There's something wrong either with the Sony OS, the Netflix app, or both, but I wish someone would just fix it.

I see the Sony tradition of generally underwhelming updates with the occasional awesome surprise is coming to a middle. No release date still for this firmware, and oh by the way we've already passed the one-year anniversary of Sony saying your PS4 would be able to suspend/resume games instantly, where's that functionality again?

But first things first, I suppose. Fingers crossed for this week.

Lol so one of the few features actually announced for this update may not even make it. This sounds like it was completely reactionary to the MS firmware news initially and now a couple weeks turns into six.

I'm not going to complain until I see that officially happening, but it would be a real letdown.

I fear the update will be pretty disappointing, at least for the amount of time we have to wait for this. :/

Really hoping we can get this update done soon so that we can move on to DLNA support!

Oh, and is full multitasking still coming? Are we going to be able to have two games running and switch between them seamlessly like we currently can with Netflix?

When was this ever suggested to be coming?

Selecting PCM just forces PCM in all games no matter what audio they may be using. All I notice using PCM is the audio is about 5-10db lower on my receiver. I've cranked my receiver on both audio formats (PCM, Bitstream DTS) but I can't hear a difference in quality. The difference between DTS and DTS-HD in Blu-ray movies is huge. Even the PCM setting in the movie 300 is a beast. But PCM just sounds like a lower mixed DTS signal when I'm playing a game. So I'm going to just stick with DTS right now. Maybe when I get my new back surrounds for my full 7.1 setup, I'll test it again.

Edit: And I'm using Netflix almost daily so I really don't feel like switching the audio setting all the time just to get 5.1

Still coming? That was never supposed to come, and it never will. The reason you can have both a game and Netflix running at the same time (actually, they aren't technically running at the same time - the game gets suspended (still in RAM but not actively running anymore) when you start Netflix) is because games and OS + apps have separate parts of the memory dedicated to them (5 GB for games, 3 GB for other stuff, as far as we know), so they are both in RAM at the same time. This allows the system to very quickly switch between them. But that wouldn't work with two games. A running game can use up to 5 GB of memory, so two games couldn't be in RAM at the same time. The first game's RAM data would have to written to the HDD (like when you put a PC in hibernation mode), and that would likely take longer than quitting the first game and booting the second.

What we are expecting to come is standby suspension of games, i.e. the game still being kept in RAM as the console is put in standby mode (not when it's fully powered down) so that you can jump right back to where you were when you boot the console again.

Multitasking between multiple games was NEVER coming.
