NPD Sales Results for March 2014 [Up4: FFX/X-2 HD]

The Gamestop lady did tell me PS4 was still selling more, so I'm not overly shocked; I'm more surprised that XBO didn't take the lead than PS4 as top console, if that makes any sense.

Now, I'm left to wonder if her analysis was indicative of just her store, or Gamestop as a whole.

I just got a big GC from amazon... tempting to jump in now but might as well hold off until E3 because I am sure one of the systems will drop in price at least.

The choice is clear as the night is dark.

Ah Yoshi, even Mario doesn't care about this thing. The highlight of Yoshi's pathetic two decade career is the fact that the TFS parody referenced him. The only other thing he has going for him is that he shares the same skin colour as the Hulk, but that's only small consolation because it takes about half a dozen other superheroes to get someone to give a crap about that big idiot.

Basically, I'm not saying it's okay to be racist, but it's okay to be racist when the other thing is green.

The reason behind it is simpler than many people seem to realize.

Sony stuck by their gun as the have been hell bent on pushing gaming on the same curve they have always been doing, at the same time, all other manufacturers were busy trying too hard to find some undiscovered goldmines all for themselves.

Nintendo thought they had the next big thing with the tablet/traditional controller mixture, whereas Microsoft thought their gain would substantially increase if they merge gaming with the more common and traditional mediums. Sony was actually the only one who stayed on their normal path pushing and focusing the area in which most console gamers care about.

I firmly believe the massive success of Wii/DS and the subsequent rise of casual market from Facebook and Smartphones deluded a lot of top executives. Everyone seemed too focused on an easy cash-in from a new untapped market, they started focusing less and less on the better defined console gaming market. Sony, I believe is the only who has been consistent in their vision of delivering high-end games, which although sort of backfired during the early years of last generation, it has been one of the biggest factors on putting Sony where they are right now in the console market.

Agreed.
I just hope that the VR push doesn't result in several years of janky as shit software and wasted potential.

Sorry if answered already but do we have any info on the Ground Zeroes split? Curious to see where it sold more, even though that seems obvious.

once again, they are selling PS3 at $270 and not dropping the price.

By your reasoning, PS3 would be already at $149 or less.

Now or December, it is all the same, it wont happen.

If MS goes crazy aggressive, they will simply bundle a game or increase HDD to 1TB. But MS wont go crazy aggressive because their investors are hard on them for losing money on "side" projects like this.

The PS3's price will not stop them from dropping the PS4. PS3's are hardly selling these days because the PS3 is horrendously overpriced for what it is and the only reason it's overpriced is because it was architected with cost reduction as an afterthought. It is not PS4.

You know MS was sweating it all day....

Sony had no idea what Microsoft's numbers were but when Sony announced their 7 million sold through yesterday MS surely knew what was likely to happen today and were readying their PR army. That 5 million # was on the ready as a counter (even if it wasn't apples to apples) this shows there was intent behind it .

Guess MS is getting a small taste of what Nintendo is used to and seem to be dealing with it in the same way. Denial...

Lol so dramatic.

Damn. How is there that big of a difference when the Xbox is so much weaker? I mean yeah the Kinect is there but jeez.

The article says Kinect costs $75 so if the Bone costs $471 to make, minus the $75 Kinect, it would equal to $396. So if MS drops the price to $399 without Kinect, there's still no cost advantage compared to Sony's $381 cost to make the PS4.

It's actually extremely good. Surpasses the original Yoshi's Island in some ways.

I wouldn't go that far personally, but you've played more of it that I have and I liked it quite a bit on my first playthrough. I do wonder how many saying it's no good have even played it. (Yes, I know, avatar quote...)

When Microsoft makes a price drop to 399, you better believe Sony will make a drop too.

If Sony can move all the units they make at that price, why on Earth would they lower it?

Microsoft will probably go for the $450, with games packed in (two of them) and focus on value (or that's what I would do). They have a long way to go, clearly.

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.

If you look right next to the name of the game, that is the break down. So it sold more on PS4, then XBO, then PS3, and finally 360.

I see no way XB1 can win Merica now. This was supposed to be XB1 month. TitanFall is not the must have game like Halo, so I don't see huge legs on that one. PS3 at least won the month Metal Gear came out. Microsoft really screwed the pouch.

Surprised so many people fell for the parody post coldfoot planted. Newer members I guess.

Nice to see Second Son sell well though.

MS needs to do something quick when a game that's supposed to be the "killer app" should be increasing console sales.

I actually said before that I thought the Xbox One had already gotten all or at least, most of the benefit that it was ever going to get from Titanfall prior to the game's release, and this likely supports that assumption. When I saw all the crazy early Xbox One sales, I thought then, and still believe now, that there's no way Titanfall wasn't factoring into that somehow.

The game's amazing, and really has the potential to be huge. I still believe that as much as I did before. But just as I also said before, a proper, epic campaign would really help put this one over the top with this kind of gameplay, making it perhaps one of the biggest franchises this gen. I think it would have to release on both systems to accomplish that, but the potential for this franchise is clear as day. That said, I wouldn't underestimate the post release staying power of this first entry. Word of mouth should be very good to this game.

All that said, I still firmly believe people are way exaggerating the doom and gloom over the xbox one. I don't see anything that Microsoft should be overly concerned about, nothing at all. The thing is, so far, easily beating the 360 at the same point in time, and not doing so by a small margin. Does that fact make the 360 a failure? Of course not. The Xbox One is being outsold by the cheaper PS4 that's available in twice as many countries. I don't see the shame in that. Now, maybe if the 360 was outpacing the Xbox One overall, people would have an argument to make, but since when has 311k in the month of march been terrible? You guys are crazy. :)

They have nothing until HALO 5 to sell systems.

Make of that what you will.

I hope when Sony gets to 10 million they make a joke about being the first to 10 million and therefore they'll win

They won't but it would be funny.
