Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???
Imagine if EA didn't do that deal with MS. They would be rolling in money.

EA is rolling in money regardless. Furthermore, TitanFall would not of been completed if it were not for Microsoft's implication. In addition, software developments costs were most likely shared between both companies. Thus, limiting EA's expenditures regardless of its success or demise.

Basically, EA is laughing at the bank.

Respawn was broke and EA wasn't going to directly invest in the development of an EA Partners title. So they went to Microsoft. MS gave them money.

EA Wins.
This is almost correct, but a slight alteration.

EA set up an insured bond that covered the first three years of development and the founding of the studio.

The project and studio was a mess after those three years, so EA's CEO sat down with Respawn and said that they had to hedge their risk by getting a first party deal, so when Respawn agreed, EA signed them with Microsoft to cover the last year.

So we have a pretty good picture of top SW:

  1. Titanfall > 1M
  2. Infamous: Second Son < 500K
  3. South Park: Stick of Truth < 440K
    (360 <242K)
  4. Call of Duty: Ghosts
  5. Dark Souls II < 350K
    (PS3 <178K, 360 <172K)
  6. Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes < 280K
    (PS4 <151K, XBO <56K, PS3 <53K)

Still lots of HW blindspots. Pie graph, pretty please?

I really dislike this. I think Titanfall is a mediocre game, and can articulate why. Why is there an assumption its system war status has anything to do with it for the majority of people who feel that way? It's 360 and PC too. Anyone can get it and not spend $500.

I may be deaf, but then again, the voice of the internet is very loud.

It's a shame people are judging it on its ability to sell XBOs than on the merits of the game itself. That's too bad, if it was multiplat, the praise would have been palpable.
I doubt it. It would still (presumably) be a $60 online only, competitive MP game with no single player, co-op or offline components. I think that's a tough sell for a lot of people no matter what side they're on (if any).

I'm glad it did well though, if it means next time around we get a more fully featured game.

Boy, that's a lot of mumbo jumbo when essentially Sony's "success" right now can be boiled down to 1) price point 2) basically 13 year(!) gap between reasonable Sony consoles. lot of pent up demand. Has MSFT made mistakes? Yeah. DRM, Kinect, and perhaps price point. Still, i maintain these are impressive numbers for both sony and MSFT and gamers should welcome their continued success and competition.

i should add that i was hilariously off my predictions. guess titanfall didnt move that much....
Was Sony extremely price conscious for PS4? No doubt at all. It was very much apparent that price was one of the main focused areas of both PS4 and Vita under Mark Cerny's reign. Heck, Sony admitted that the camera was supposed to be bundled, but due to pricing, they decided to remove it. This is a public information, so denying that price was a major factor is total misreading of how any business work.

However, the fact that Sony decided to remove the camera says it all. They decided to get what's more important to both Sony and the gamers, first. Microsoft refused to do what Sony did by not removing the camera although it too didn't have anything substantial ready to justify its added price.

Your second point about PS4 being Sony's only 'reasonable console' since the PS2 is downright wrong (or maybe you're just trolling?). For one, the general consensus from gamers in the past three years has been more in favor of PS3 as opposed to both Xbox 360 and Wii. Second, PS3 is indirectly one of the biggest reasons as to why people has chosen PS4 this generation. For one, most ardent gamers are aware that Sony has supported the core gaming audience for way longer than both MS and Nintendo, as it was evident by titles such as God of War: Ascension, The Last of Us, Beyond: Two Souls, and Gran Turismo 6 all in just last year.

This latter point of mine more than anything validates the claim about Sony pursuing and emphasizing on the core gaming market, and building a long-standing trust with gamers while the others have seemingly tried way too hard to find the same good ol' blue ocean market, making them far more detached with what the traditional console gamers wants.

Bad choice on their part (EA). It isnt like they have made any good choices though, so am not surprised.

True enough. But I've read the reasons many people have issues with Titanfall, and most of them are very valid. There's just a lot of issues that modern competitive FPS game design has introduced to the balance of these games that is not appealing to me, and many others. Titanfall is hardly the only FPS these days to commit these sins. It's also nowhere near as groundbreaking as they tried to make it seem.

Just to clarify, you has PC software numbers? Titanfall is million seller on Xbox One alone?

NPD is all retail, PC is almost guaranteed to be an insignificant contribution for all but a handful of series.

So yeah, definitely over a million on Xbone.

Here is a question or two for y'all:

Do you think the perception that retailers were cutting the Xbox One price on their own damaged the brand?

Would it have been received better if Microsoft had announced an official price drop instead?

I feel like Dark Souls 2 has the potential for more good sales if it would just get a decent next gen port.

I know I'd buy it.

Bish loves my games!
This thread is moving like the NPD's of yore! All board!

I'm having a blast with Titanfall. Can't wait for the DLC. Well deserved no. 1.

Glad to see Infamous:SS kicking ass. Really enjoying that too.

But poor, poor XBone. Barely over 300k sales!

I guess the news of inferior multi plats is actually hurting its mainstream perception. Well that + forced Kinect + weaker specs + higher price. They are really going to struggle this gen, huh?

If Titanfall did 1m+, why the hell wouldn't MS include that in their press release???

Because it's EA's call to announce the sales figures, and not MS's?

Maybe EA feels that they should wait until after 360 SKU launches to announce their >2 million sales or whatever the amount will be after a certain period of time, etc.

Respawn Unchained will be a force to be reckoned with.

Without all that Activision bullshit and new studio hardships to deal with, they're gonna deliver hard on the sequel. Better believe it.
