Anyway to make this thread about good anime for a change I watched Urusei Yatsura 2: Beautiful Dreamer the other night and was super impressed by it, the gradual unfolding of what was going on was really well done, not too obvious, just the right amount of mystery and subtlety. It really speaks to the director's talent how well he guided the atmosphere of the movie from beginning with wacky hijinks to the sombre empty city to the group readjusting to their circumstances and so on

It does need some basic knowledge of the show to appreciate some of the character's motivations but it's a really fun movie in its own right, glad i finally found the time to watch this.

Thoughts during episode:

- Stormy weather ahead.
- Kyon's sister is adorable.
- Kyon don't be melodramatic.
- Esper dude is quite level headed.
- Awww Haruhi is concerned about Kyon.

- That was weird.
- Hahahaha. Haruhi hasn't acted really crazy this episode. It's kind of cute.
- And Kyon is acting relatively calm and hasn't complained once yet. This is a good sign. Hopefully it's not just this episode Kyon is like this. He can be cynical all he wants just as long as he's not being a jerk. Cautious, caring Kyon is best Kyon.
- Kyon is being nice and isn't interrupting Esper man. This is a different Kyon.
- Lol. They tried to play that card. I knew they were bluffing.
- Ah there he is. Kyon is back. :|
- Oh Kyon don't be like that. Just because you realized it too doesn't mean you get the credit. Haruhi is doing all the explaining.
- A PHOENIX WRIGHT REFERENCE!!!!! Nice.

- And with this over I now move to the Endless Eight.....

Summary:

Gonna be honest and say that I liked Kyon a lot more in this episode. When he's being caring and what seems like having a little fun he's a much better character. Of course good things aren't meant to last and he returned to being his normal self for the most part by the end of the episode. At least he's not being as snarky/jerky with Koi (Esper man) as much as he usually is. He actually held conversations without cutting anyone off. Maybe, just maybe, his character is growing up and maturing. If that's the case then he may one of these days grow on me. That's a big maybe.

Haruhi was also not as crazy in the first half of the show. It was a nice change of pace for her and actually kind of sweet. Of course when she returned to her usual self in the last quarter of the episode it was glorious. Many great references and her just being awesome.

Let's see what Endless Eight has in store now....

Decided to give this a try after duckroll recommendation. I'm a sucker for western styled anime, especially fantasy. Berserk being my top manga. So this really hit that D&D desire. We have our three leads presented to us, and I can see the similarities with Chaika already. Guess it wasn't exaggeration. Though as of right now I don't want to choke this princess to death everytime she opens her mouth. Also a sweet ending, showing the affection between siblings. And not in a creepy anime way.

Scrapped Princess is pretty watchable. Chaika definitely reminds me of it somewhat.

This was a marked improvement for the series, with an interesting conflict and novel solution. I've also come to the conclusion that this is supposed to be a deconstruction of the genre, so that might help my enjoyment of it.

I just wish the subs weren't so quick, it's hard to follow at times.

I really don't know if I like this or not. The anime-isms are just painful, and the world building borders on needless exposition at times because they don't trust the world to make sense on its own. They even use those factoid interstitials that Attack on Titan used, just to throw in even more world building exposition.

I feel like I need to stick with it since it is the only science fiction thing around, but if this was just a plain mecha show, I probably would have just put it in the same box as all the other mechas that I've seen. (Might as well be called Buddy Complex in Space)

Not because it isn't good or because I don't want to watch it, but because this season has enough good shows in it that I don't want my entire anime schedule filled with obligatory watches. And because anime comedies don't lend themselves to interesting discussion.

Gantz is what happens when you take the most unlikable protagonist you can find and try and disguise him as relatable. But he just cries and whines and is horrible. And then you put him in a premise of Attack on Titan meets The Running Man meets Death Race meets Independence Day meets Wreck It Ralph alongside a cast of boring characters and boobs.

Admittedly I haven't read/seen the show in ages, but I remember this clearly and even if somebody told me 'no you're wrong' I'm not about to go and read/watch it again for the sake of remembering how much I hated it. Seinen done wrong.

Don't quote me on this, but no it's not entirely normal. At least to sell them for those prices for 1 disc. This is a special case since the whole season was released in japan in theaters and then on blu-rays of what they showed in theaters, which was usually 3-4 episodes of a 20+ season anime. And for some reason somebody decided that indeed they'll keep it the same because fuck your wallet.
