JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle |OT| Diamond is Not Crazy

  • Platform: PlayStation 3
  • Developer: CyberConnect2
  • Release Date: April 25th, 2014 (EU)/April 29th, 2014 (NA)
  • Duwang: Beautiful

HAHAHAHAHA! THE ONE WHO MADE THIS THREAD WASN'T SCRAFTYDEVIL, IT WAS ME, DIO!

This is what you humans might call a "3D fighting game," developed by the worms over at CyberConnect 2. It is based on the epic ongoing tale of the puny members of the Joestar lineage and their encounters with me, the great Dio! There are 34 playable characters in the game; a pointless waste of time on the developer's part as only one character is truly needed: Dio! Thankfully, two different versions of me are selectable for those who want to experience two times the majesty.

The different modes of play are as follows:

  • Story Mode, for those who wish to experience the first seven parts of my grand legacy! New characters, including me, Dio, are unlocked through this mode.
  • Arcade Mode, for those who wish to skip right to the combat and engage 8 computer-controlled foes to earn gold for use in the Gallery Shop!
  • Campaign Mode, for those who wish to unlock new costumes, taunts, poses, and other customization items for me by defeating difficult bosses. I, Dio, have instilled an arbitrary time limit system upon this mode, not unlike the one found in the bane of all humans: social games! Fighting bosses depletes an energy bar, which refills automatically over time. For the less patient and more zealous, I have created a fair and reasonable compromise: additional energy charges can be purchased through microtransactions!
  • Versus Mode, for those who wish to pit one version of me against the other in combat, be it online or with a local ally!
  • Customize Mode, for those who wish to change my taunts, poses, win quotes, or other such trifles, as well as customize their Player Card and Vision (ghost data that can be fought by other players online).
  • Gallery Mode, for those who wish to view the great Dio's majesty in closer detail! This mode also includes a Gallery Shop in which the gold won from various game modes can be used to purchase 3D models, 2D artwork, theme songs and bits of trivia. All of Dio, of course.

As mentioned before, the only two characters worth playing in this game are the two different versions of me, Dio! However, I shall provide a full list so that the gap in power between me and these pitiful monkeys can be made more apparent. Characters who fight with the aid of Stands such as I, Dio, shall have their Stand indicated in parentheses following their name.

Part 1: Phantom Blood
Jonathan Joestar, Will A. Zeppeli, Dio Brando

Part 2: Battle Tendency
Joseph Joestar, Caesar A. Zeppeli, Wamoo, Esidisi, Kars

Part 3: Stardust Crusaders
Jotaru Kujo (Star Platinum), Noriaki Kakyoin (Hierophant Green), Jean-Pierre Eiffel (Silver Chariot), Mohammed Avdol (Magician's Red), Hol Horse (Emperor), DIO Brando (ZA WARUDO)

Part 4: Diamond is Unbreakable
Josuke Higashikata (Shining Diamond), Okuyasu Nijimura (The Hand), Koichi Hirose (Reverb), Rohan Kishibe (Heaven's Door), Akira Otoshi (Chili Pepper), Yoshikage Kira (Deadly Queen)

Part 5: Vento Aureo
Giorno Giovanna (Golden Wind), Bruno Buccellati (Zipper Man), Narancia Ghirga (L'il Bomber), Guido Mista (Six Pistols), Diavolo (Emperor Crimson)

Part 6: Stone Ocean
Jolyne Kujo (Stone Ocean), Hermes Costello (Smack), Father Pucci (Pale Snake)

Part 7: Steel Ball Run
Johnny Joestar (Tusk), Gyro Zeppeli (Ball Breaker), Valentine (Filthy Acts at a Reasonable Price)

Part 8: JoJolion
Josuke "Four-Balls" Higashikata (Soft & Wet)

There are also 9 additional characters who were unable to handle the majesty of I, Dio, and so shall join the fight at a later date as "Downloadable Content." These characters are as follows:

Lisa Lisa, Old Joseph Joestar (Hermit Purple), Iggy (The Fool), Cool Ice (Cream), Shigekyo Yangu (Harvest), Ex-Kira (Deadly Queen), Pannacotta Fugo (Purple Smoke), Narc Anastasia (Diver Down), Baoh

I, Dio understand that the names of some of the characters who appear in my tale are known by different name to those of you from North America. Here is a comprehensive list of all of these so-called "localizations," dubious as their quality may be:

Now go, my peons! Go and consume the competition like so many pieces of bread!

Special thanks to the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Wiki for the list of name changes!

Very nice OT. I really enjoyed the demo. Looking forward to buying this soon not only because it's fun, but it's over the top craziness.

If only Namco's store didn't have the shipping/reputation it does, I'd have Kira early :( Oh well, going digital and hoping I can buy him soon.

Shoutouts to Zipper Man/Eiffel/Highway to Death, Kappa

... WHAT?! Ahahaha. I'm so glad I took the time to peek in here. I am curious, though... wasn't shadow dio a DLC character or did I miss that somewhere in your OT?

As someone who is watching the anime and has not read the manga, this game is gonna confuse the fuck outta me, right?

...Will just stick to the safety of Phantom Blood and Battle Tendency characters.

PAULINK

I microwave steaks.
I really wanted to dig into a new fighter but the demo didn't do it for me. I guess I need 60 fps for fighters.

I was going to buy it but all the really bad name changes and dialogue changes really soured me, so I'll buy it when it's on sale. I'll stick to my import for now.

Got it on Friday and it's okay so far. Looks great but I'm not a fan of the games speed. After playing the demo I was really discouraged but it's definitely better with more of the cast. Also seems like an easy Plat, I got 6 trophies in my first fight! And also for people who imported is Joseph a weak/ low tier character or am I just bad with him?

Just watched the Jojo anime a few days ago and was instantly hooked. I'm in for this day one can't wait. Nice OT Dio.

No. He was playable in the CPS3 Capcom game though.
Didn't this game have a horrible amount of DLC or something?

You might be thinking of Campaign mode which is kinda like a f2p game in the sense that you have to wait for the meter to recharge or pay to do so. The recharge time was really bad at first in the JP version but got better after all the complaints. You need to play Campaign mode to unlock alt costumes, poses, etc.

Characters are the only thing you have to buy.

I bought the JP version day one, but I'm skipping this. Wasn't a very good game. I've heard the patches made the game better but I can't see it fixing the game that much honestly. Hope you all enjoy it more than I did.

Ridiculous easy plat for you hunters out there. Like 5 or 6 hours tops (assuming the trophies are the same).

I expected to double dip but the name changes are killing me. I can't do it, sorry!

I really just wanted to say how much I love the topic title.

He's an unlockable outfit for Part 3 Dio.

Also, to the OP: It says "14 additional characters" are available as DLC, but only 8 are listed, and there are only 9 in total, since you're only missing Baoh (a.k.a. "He Doesn't Even Go Here")

Lol at some of those name changes. I'm sticking with my japanese copy since it's perfectly playable even without knowing the language.

So tempted to buy this... I'm a recent Jojo viewer (me and my wife started with the new anime series, though I'd thought about reading the manga for ages). Already behind on season 3 -_- man kids make things difficult.

30 FPS fighters are like playing a 60FPS fighter on a TV with like 60ish ms latency. Yeeeeah, that's my biggest issue here.

Won't be buying it because we already have the JPN version

I don't understand the name changes. It was because of licensing issues right? So why do some of the names retain the reference? Maiden Heaven is brilliant though, lol.

EDIT: Also, what's the point if the characters are still saying the original names? Josuke says "Crazy Diamond!" while the subs say "Shining Diamond"?

The physical version only being sold online kinda ruins things for me. I'll likely buy it later but day 1 is out of the question for now...

Hell if I know, but when in doubt, blame Dio. Chances are 4 out of 5 times it was him anyways.

I didn't even know this existed somehow. Love finding out a game that I would've been super hyped for is coming out in mere days.

I'll probably get this when it price drops. I already own the japanese version but the arcade mode and other updates do sound interesting, though not for full price. I know some people weren't too fond of the game but once I got used to the speed and weight of the characters I really got into it.

Has Bandai put out a schedule for the dlc characters?

Just pre-ordered it, pretty much sight unseen. I'm aware of the issues it had in Japan, but I'm a fan of JoJo's and want to support more of this kind of stuff coming out here. As a fan of fighters that barely gets the chance to get in too deep, I hope it's fun to play at least.

Here are all the combo videos that have been put out.

Jotaro
Polnareff
Kakyoin
Avdol
DIO

There actually is pretty good combo potential in the game. The main problem is with a lot of characters it's pretty tough to do big damage with combos.

The highest damage character in the game is definitely Fugo, who was free for a while when he launched. Almost as broken as he was in the manga.

Well:

1 Part is tangential related.

1 Is almost completely unrelated (save some characters and concepts)

1 Is a direct sequel (Stone Ocean) of the events of the first three parts

And the other two are set in
an alternate dimension and more or less new versions of past characters

To anyone wishing to buy this game but don't want to get spoiled on plot, I'd recommend that you don't buy it yet. That barebones storymode is absolute crap, and some special attacks contain dialogue/actions that spoil the outcome of a part.

I just need to know if there are separate servers or not, because I'd like to play my unbastardized version with decent online connections

Yep, it's separate and still ass.
