PS4 System Update 1.70 is Live

What would the point of giving an HDTV an optical port be if it couldn't do passthrough? It would almost be reliant on pass through.

Lots of HDTVs downmix encrypted audio to stereo from HDMI because the HDMI spec says you can't decrypt it and then send it out of an unencrypted port as-is.

Does anyone else have the problem that if you look for a MP game in let's say Call of Duty and are in a party you get that annoying notification that says: "The chat audio is currently set to [Prioritize Party]. You can change the setting on the party screen."

It always pops up like 2 or 3 times every time I or a friend starts searching for a lobby and it is ANNOYING as hell. They really have to patch that asap, because you cannot deactivate it by deactivating notifications. Did anyone maybe find a solution?

How do you save your captured videos again?

Do you mean the Share Factory videos that you create, you have to render them under options, I just figured that out, and they have to be 15 min or less, after that they save into your capture gallery like your other videos.

Regarding optical passthroughs (sorry not exactly the right thread for this but saw people talking about it in previous page).... I'm picking up a soundbar tonight with an optical cable. Do I connect it to y TV or will I need some kind of splitter and split it direct to my ps3, ps4 and tv?

Heard you lose surround sound if you go direct to TV?

Well I tried changing the Audio Format to bitsteam(dolby) but that didn't work. Just a bit of a hassle if I have to keep changing optical cords in and out of my receiver when I switch between ps3, ps4, and cable

The receiver doesn't have HDMI inputs? I have a receiver with 8 HDMI inputs, run all consoles and other devices into it, run the consoles out on the HDMI 2 output and movie stuff out through the HDMI 1 output. Then I map the console output to a game mode input on the TV. Best of both worlds, no sound issues.

Nah, only one HDMI out sadly

5.1 audio is still broken for me in Netflix. Nothing coming out of the centre channel. Even although I want the PS4 audio settings the same as the PS3, I think it's finally time for me to agree it's a Netflix issue and not PS4. Shoddy as hell if it's Netflix though and they still haven't fixed it....

I changed my settings a few weeks ago to fix it. I changed my PS4 settings to HDMI but used Linear PCM with digital out (something like that). My center channel worked.

20 seconds is my cold boot... Standby is way way faster... 3 seconds most if time.

Really? Mine has always taken around 15-20 secs unless it's currently downloading something in which case it's in the OS in 5 secs. I wonder why mine takes longer :/

So what's the verdict on the Deep Color Output? Any noticeable improvement in video quality in game? Can someone please post pics comparing or explain the effect to me?

Strange, the streams I look at don't seem to be at 720p at all. Is there a option I need to enable so that I can see them in 720p? I know you need to do so when broadcasting, but all I know is that those streams I watch that should be 720 are not.

Their upload speed sucks. That's my concern, I'm going to have to upgrade my internet beyond the 50/3 plan I have to be able to stream at full 720p. I wanted to upgrade anyways.

Hmmm last 2 times after doing the update and turning on the PS4, it hangs on the PS logo at the very start for 2 mins or so before finally booting the system. Also then have to plug in the controller to sync it to the system again. Any ideas?

I will make more test with this firmware but these are my times with the factory HDD... I will change soon... last time I did the test took me 4 seconds to start to load Resogun.

My cold boot is definitely less than 20 seconds.... auto login enabled... remember the PSN login is depended of the internet.

No ,before I access the SF.Prior the patch today they were stored under media ,now pressing the share button it did not save any footage from the game.

PRessing share doesn't automatically save anything anymore. If you look at the submenu when you press share, there's square and triangle to save stuff.

Same for me. Never bother with it because it literally takes as long as cold boot. Forget that noise. Biggest disappointment when I was first screwing around with it.

I did some tests of my own and it looks like sharing screenshots with PSN friends (or "the PS App trick"), they're compressed a second time, reducing quality and actually increasing the file size from the original capture.

USB transfer gives the best quality at the smallest file size.

The main reason it was a complaint on the PS3 hardware was for the camera, and they technically did fix that.
I had an external drive and headset charger (as well as the camera), which I would have liked to have been plugged in at all times. Now the USB dongle for the Pulse headset.

Also, they may have fixed the position of the camera port... but I still can't use the damn thing with their short arse cable. :'(

Is anyone else getting weird red speckles all over their screen after the update? Really noticeable on dark colours like the Infamous icon. Tried turning on and off HDCP as I thought it might be to do with that but no change.

This is actually a welcome change. You no longer get a video or screenshot created in situations like pressing share to start a broadcast. No more having to go through and cleaning out files.

My start from standby has always looked identical to a regular boot from off, so aside from the LED being on and orange indicating it actually is in standby I've never been convinced the thing isn't actually just rebooting itself completely coming out of standby.

Will be interesting to see if it behaves differently when I get home later tonight.

I certainly agree with you.Its just hard to find out how to save them now lol

And right there I have only "triangle"-save screenshot. No square,no video.
Are you in a game and not capturing a blocked scene?

Tried turning off Deep Colour in Video Output Settings?

What's the deal with the Deep Color setting? Any noticeable improvements in game?
You probably need a high-end 10 or 12bit display to see any benefit. Most consumer displays are 8 or cheap, older ones 6 bit with dithering I think.

I think it didn't change from how it was for videos, at least as far as 'constantly recording' goes. You can set shorter intervals for the clips, and also start manually recording by double-clicking the share button.

Three of my wishes became true; screensaver, previewing several captures in a row doesn't result with a blank screen anymore (EDIT: I haven't yet checked, if the bug is still there when a game is on hold), and no account verification on controller wake-up. The latter in particular annoyed me, as there's only one user account on my system. The language options for BR/DVD playback are a good bonus.

Now, the only major things I miss are HDMI-CEC control on Netflix, YouTube app, and USB media playback. And minor things, like options to block friend requests that come without a message, or outside of FB friend circles / people you've played with, plus being able to delete captures in the preview mode.

I set the controller light to dim to see if it lengthens the battery charge, although the light never bothered me while playing.

Anyone else try Twitch archiving yet? I archived a video, but it has no sound. Am going to have to look later to see if the actual live streaming has sound or not. I didn't see an option to turn off sound...only mic, which I did have off.

I just used standby for the 2nd time. The first time I tried it was on the day I got it, and it hung up so I was scared to use it again. It definitely started up faster than from a cold boot.
