Facebook vs USB video capture quality

i26EpEeQnJznZ.png
i08DmEWQmx5Wn.png

44.1 vs 48 kHz audio
1.64 vs 4.9 Mbit/sec bitrate

The fine details are blurred out a lot more with the Facebook download.

My Infamous Second Son video uses rock-solid 8mbit bandwith. 64MB for 63secs of footage.

HDMI and HDCP handshake issues has plagued devices for years, and it doesn't seem likely to stop yet :-( Tried with both HDCP on and off?

Yeah, but those handshake issues...

Well I turned off Deep Color, since a bunch of people in this thread were having problems with it, and everything works fine with HDCP now (on the PS3 as well!)

Pretty good update but they really need to get menu customization in there. The main menu bar is such a mess and now Share Factory is on there which is another icon I don't want.

:/ Spent all that time formatting it, putting the update on, then I turned the PS4 back on to reinstall it and it boots up fine again.

Has me worried though.

If it does it again, make sure you got the 1.70 update. The one at Sony's firmware page is still old. That might be why it didn't work. It said the same thing to me when I got the old one when trying to upgrade my HDD. Killthee posted the url for it: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=110053702&postcount=88

Sony didn't touch the web browser at all from what I can tell. Same score on html5test.com, locks up on the same places the old one did. I think it's been the same since launch.

First, this update is great. Lots of great features added. Execution of some of them, however, leaves something to be desired.

Couple things..

1. When rendering your final movie in the new Share app, you can't "minimize" it and go do other things. I guess it uses the same chip to do the rendering that it does to run games, etc. It pauses the rendering and doesn't continue until you focus on that app again. :(

2. Holy hell is the USB transfer slow. This, coupled with the above comment, is going to make Twitch archiving much more appealing than exporting to USB and uploading to YouTube.

EDIT: ..and you can't even minimize that transfer either. I just stopped it at 64mb with still 80minutes to go. Brutal. It essentially makes the ShareFactory app useless with all of its transitions and editing features.. if I have to wait that fucking long to transfer it to a USB stick, I'm never going to use it.

Am I getting this right....so if I click the Share-button and go into "share" that way, I can tag multiple screenshots to be uploaded to Facebook.

However, when I click Capture Gallery or go to the screenshots directory under your Profile, I cannot do a batch upload, only a single screenshot upload?! Strange move.

So you don't own a Wii-U, PS3, Xbox 360, or Xbox One then. Got it.

I don't own a Wii U. I owned a PS3 and the DS3's battery life lasted quite a bit longer than the DS4s. I own a 360 and I get a full week from a charge of my eneloops. I also own an Xbox One and again, a full week of gaming(I average 2-3 hours a day either gaming or watching Netflix/Espn/HBO). Are you honestly saying the battery life of the DS4 is anywhere near the level of PS3, 360, or XB1's? As for the Wii U, it has an excuse for the gamepad to be that poor. It has a giant screen that's always on. Now consider the Wii U Pro controller - 80 hours of battery life.

I just recorded a short Infamous vid to export to usb, decent quality when viewing it back on pc.

ps4_bitrate.png

Does anyone know if its possible to record, say 1 hour of footage without missing anything ?, i understand the vids will be 15 minutes a piece. But can you set it to record continuously for any amount of time(in 15 min chunks), or do you have to hit record every 15 mins ?

You have to hit record every 15 minutes. I think the only way to get around that would be to do a livestream of your video and have it archived at Twitch or Ustream. Those can be any length, I believe.

LOL seriously? I'm glad I stopped it early, then. =\

So weird how the update downloads but then just sits at "preparing to install" instead of just automatically restarting and installing. If I go to sign-in, then it prompts me to restart.

It's highly dependent on the write speed of your USB stick. A 3.0 stick should be very very fast. Many 2.0 sticks had terrible write performance.

Good call - I'm actually not sure about the one I'm using. It's a few years old. Is there a diagnostic tool I can use to find out from the stick itself?

Its good to see those implementations, if theres something buggy or very slow they may fix that with a future update. At least it is what we should expext them to do.

About the DS4, I believe that they will later release a new one with better battery life. DS4 is awesome, its battery life is its only problem imo.

It's highly dependent on the write speed of your USB stick. A 3.0 stick should be very very fast. Many 2.0 sticks had terrible write performance.

Came here to add this, too. Anyone have any real-world proof that the video transfer to a USB 3.0 device from the PS4 is faster than to a USB 2.0 device?

Sure any disk speed utility should work on USB flash drives as well. I use a thing called Blackmagic Disk Speed Test on Mac.

Ah cool, so the ports are 3.0 then?
I'm going to have to get a new stick.

Yes.

I don't but it should be a pretty big difference.

USB 2.0 = max 480 megabits/sec
USB 3.0 = max 5 gigabits/sec

Those are theoretical maximums that you never reach IRL but 3.0 should be roughly 8-9x faster in almost any case.

I thought I read somewhere that you could now upload multiple pictures at once to facebook. Yet, I can't find a way to do this. Any help?

I suppose this is a PS Vita feature, but you can now disable the overlays that appear when you use the touchscreen and back panel with remote play!
